I'm done with not being friendly
Al Bundy (DayZ) replied to VLG Castiel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The human interaction is what makes dayz fun when it comes down to it. If it was a single player game of you vs zombies it would be incredibly boring. Helping people is a lot of fun and also a lot of work because of the mass paranoia. Yes people shoot on sight if you want the full experience you've just gotta endure it. Everytime someone falls in to the "I shoot on sight because everyone else does that to me!" spiral they're missing out on some great experiences. Now...that's not to say that helping is the only way to interact. Killing basically has no interaction because of how quickly it happens, sometimes it's even outright instant. Robbing(without killing) is just as rewarding as helping in my opinion. The robber is taking the risk of being shot even though he could have just shot first and the victim has several thoughts racing through his mind about what he should do. I've been on both ends before. Betrayal is interesting too but most people aren't going to put enough thought in to it to actually make it memorable. They'd rather just use one bullet. -
Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'
Al Bundy (DayZ) replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Both "sides" of this thread is hilarious to me. On one side you've got the socipaths just waiting burst nd on the other you've got the people who've never struggled a single day in their life talking about how "most" people on the planet would band together and then they'd protect each other with rainbows and lollipops. I wish my real life so black and white. -

1% chance to gain anorexia after eating beans. Anorexia results in you vomiting every time you eat something, ensuring your food icon never becomes green again. All zombies ignore you since they think you're one of them based on your appearance and movement. -
Server hopping has made this game boring.

You can always tell who the mmo players are when they think loot is the end game of dayz. -
Shooting everything you see isn't realistic...
Al Bundy (DayZ) replied to MperorM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually a longer respawn would make people even more inclined to shoot on sight. Are you really going to wait for the other guy to shoot you first and lock you out of the game? No, you're not. -
Is there a point on the players body you can attack that's more likely to knock them unconcious instead of killing them? Hitting their head for example is extremely likely to kill them, but can I for their back or something for a higher likely hood of knocking them out?
-
Well if the theoretical weapons were added, the drag/hostage bug would need to be fixed first or at the same time the weapons were added. There would also probably need to be a timer to prevent you from being chain knocked-out as well. Like a 5 second gap between knockouts or something like that, enough time to fight back and prevent a corny form of griefing. It isn't going to make killing any easier, that's a fact. Players already die in less then 2 seconds when under fire. If it's the lee enfield it's less then half a second and that's one of the most common weapons you can find.

I'm not really against non-pvp servers existing, it doesn't hurt anyone as long as characters made there have to stay there. If some people only want to group up and fight zombies that's fine, it's really not effecting anyone else and there shouldn't be objections to it. I still believe it will be a griefer's paradise though, to be honest.
-
Well there's a few major flaws, there would be no absolutely no risk while griefing. Currently people doing shady stuff like blocking off indoor areas with barbed wire/tank traps have the small chance of being shot if someone catches them doing it. A pvp immune player could do it anywhere they wanted, they could even actively kill players by deploying barbed wire on them but that's also a bug that needs to be fixed anyway. Pvp immune players could also raid any major loot spawn area at absolutely no risk. Once you learn the basic zombie ai, they're a decent strech from dangerous. Pvp-enabled players would gradually starve to death since the damage immune players would be looting with impunity. You would also have damage immune players hording the limited spawn vehicles, because you're both unable to take it from them and I assume the vehicle would also be immune to damage since they opted out. Those are just off the top of my head. I'm sure other problems would immediately arise as well.

The best way is to get a blood tranfusion from someone with a blood pack. You're going to have to know that person already though because everyone shoots on sight. The slower way is to eat food, it gives you some blood back. If I'm not mistaken it also naturally regenerates over time VERY slowly.

Rocket, do you need to include a credit here?

Make sure you credit me as well, I've been alive for over 2000 years and I'm the writer of the original zombie. -

Is the Bandit "Problem" Fixing Itself?
Al Bundy (DayZ) replied to ChaoticRambo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You do realize that on those servers, the clans ARE the bandits right? -
You can help people as others have said. Playing as a field medic is quite fun. On the flip side you can play as an actual bandit and not a murderer. Ambush people and tell them to lie on the ground over voice chat or you and your (imaginary) friends will shoot. If you're decently hidden they won't have a chance to shoot you and there's no way for them to actually know you're alone if you're concealed. When(if) they lay down tell them to stay still or the others will shoot you. Then you go through their backpack and take what you want. Personally I always leave them with at least 1 food and drink so they don't become a death matcher. I also like to remove the extra ammo from their pack and lay it on the ground next to them so they have to pick it up while you make your exit. It's VERY risky and it's not as efficient as killing people but it can be a heck of a lot of fun. You never know how people will react. And another option is just stalking other players. Hilarious things happen all the time in this game, especially if it's a group of players. Take out the binoculars, make some popcorn and laugh.

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
Al Bundy (DayZ) replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As long as it's harder but POSSIBLE to survive solo, I'd be fine with these changes. However if it's impossible to solo, it's just going to backfire. I'm normally pretty passive but if I was unable to enter a town to get food on my own, I'd become the hyper-aggressive shoot on sight player you're trying to prevent. -
When you find a sniper rifle...
Al Bundy (DayZ) replied to Gravelsack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is so simple and brilliant. It'd be even better with an atv. Drive to every hunting stand, take the sniper rifles, load them in to atv, drop them off in random forest. Rinse, repeat. On a side note I also love flares. Noone ever picks them up so I have a infinite supply of paranoia ammo. Dayz characters have a stronger arm then a major league pitcher and you can throw a flare across an entire city. Then all the zombies investigate it and the benny hill music begins for the people the flare landed next to. -
Never wear a ghillie suit if you're trying to be social. The ghillie suit is like a big shoot me sign because it announces you probably have a lot of loot and possibly rare loot. Realistically you're not going to be stealthy after teaming up with random people anyway. Blood transfusions are a good way to make people trust you. If you were willing to spend something that valuable on them, you're much less likely to betray them. Hold a crossbow out all the time. It's widely considered the worst weapon so noone will kill you for it. It also means your backback is full of bolts so they're less likely to kill you for your delicious delicious beans. If you don't know how to use the crossbow you can still carry a good pistol, just don't hold it out when you encounter someone because they'll kill you for it. If you see a group of people just avoid them. The chance of them shooting you is practically 99.9%. These people likely already know each other and will not trust anyone. They also know they have the power of numbers, so they're going to shoot you even if they DO trust you. It's just how people are. I've yet to encounter anyone with broken legs who is friendly after using morphine on them. It could be bad luck or it could be them in a mindset of desperation. I'd say avoid people with broken legs. If you're having a conversation with someone you just met and they seem distracted, they're stalling you. Their friend(s) are coming to shoot you. This is especially true if the other person is the one who approached and started the conversation, it's a common bandit tactic.

Winchester. Lee enfeld is too loud. While it can one shot players the enormous noise it generates is just too much of a drawback in a game where intel is power. If every zombie and player within half a click knows your exact position after one shot, maybe one shot isn't that great. Thankfully crossbow bolts don't stack or it'd be the best weapon by such an enormous margin. Not even the learning curve would balance it out.
