Mosin or M4? Consider upcoming changes to game
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to unicornsmustdie's topic in General Discussion
Plenty considering the USMC was there fighting in the civil war according to "lore". Anyway I really like both weapons, but go with the M4 for right now. I enjoy the Acog. When other weapons get added though I would take an M14 or CZ550 any day over both. My hope is that one day I can have a CZ or M14 and a bow/cross bow. I just hope I can at least get an Acog on the M14. Will be hard to decide if I can't get both. I really like both pistols too. I have had way more kills with the .45 though. Once you get some mags for it then you are good to go. 3-4 mags is perfect. -
No way this should be in game, too much abuse. They should get rid of in game chat too because people just yell curses and racist remarks 24/7 and get rid of sigs in the forum because of all the swastikas and giant penis leafs. <_< The two big arguments against are 1) Immersion, which clearly this would fit in. There are knives and clothes everywhere, surely Cherno has a sewing machine some place or at the least one of the military camps. As for the car paint part. A buddy of mine painted all our armor art while deployed with spray paint and tape. Both in game. 2) Abuse. Well this is simple, handle like every other type of abuse in the game, report it. Seriously guys since when did we start stopping good things because a few people might abuse it? 100% this should go in game.

Yeah a leg holster and a few hip holsters would be awesome. A leg holster for the knife as well. Started off with the blue shirt (which I really like) then switched for the black and white one. Then added black pants. Now I look like a pissed off Oakland Raiders fan.

Would be awesome. Obviously the gassed would be more powerful indoors. Mechanical, cooking, weapons, medical and chemical. Some other useful simple things. Gun powder (from bullets) + can + rope + tape = Explosive add nails to above for added damage/range add flair for flash bang They are adding a cooking timer which will be used for "time bombs". The one thing I would hope is they would limit the use of the gas mask. Like if you wear it all the time the filters wear out faster, you run slower, have worse aim and burn energy faster. So people would wear it when they need it but not 100% of the time.

How many people do you kill in a life on average?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I avoid players more than kill them. I have been enjoying my new game of following them and taking photos as they sneak around. The better question is how many times have you been shot and not died? At least 3 times for me. A stats summary at the end of each life would be great though. -
They will never limit their fan base by getting rid of either view, drop it already. I only use 3rd person and here is why. You talk of realism like that is the deciding factor on if you should use it or not. Well in REAL LIFE we have 5 senses, sight, hearing, taste, smell and feel. In the game we only have two sight and hearing. It is the last one I mentioned that is a big one, FEEL. In the real world I can feel if I am in a bush or tucked next to a wall or if I am out in the open. Not so in the game. Without 3rd person you can't tell where you are in the world.

I don't mind dieing to a sniper, I think death in itself is just shitty. Black screen "You are Dead" that's it? At least let me fall and see around for 15 seconds to a few minutes depending on how bad it was. Then fade to black.

Idea: Add in a vertical hand grip. Look: Mechanics: Used to attach to fire arms with a rail attached (currently only the M4). Effect: Increased accuracy while standing or kneeling (like the bipod does for prone). Options: Can limit the rail space so only a bipod or vertical grip can be used, not both. Additional Option: There are even vertical grips out there that have a bipod as well that comes out of the bottom (known as the grip pod). This one could be much more rare than the bipod or vertical grip.

Going on the limb here and assuming the acogs we find in game are left over from the Marine Corps involvement in Chernarus. Now it has been a few years since I was in the MC but to my knowledge the reticule is incorrect. That should be the reticule for the Acog.

Am I old or is the Acog wrong?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Ahh ok, never know who you are talking to on the internets ;) -
Raptor nice pic and love the background. Always helps me play a character if I give them a little back story.

Am I old or is the Acog wrong?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I know what you are thinking but are a bit off. The Marine Corps (at least when I was in) zero's their rifles at 25 yards. Using the M4 as an example here. The round at 25 yards will be at that exact same height at 370.5 yards. With the M16 it will hit the same height at 25 yards and then at 300 yards. Take a look at the trajectory that Gews posted. The round does change height and is on it's way up at 25 yards and then back down at 300 yards. Back to the M4 example it will reach peak height at 210 yards and will be 9.3 inches above your eye. Anyway this brings me to another point we are taught, aim center mass. So I have a 25 yard zero and aim at your head (without adjusting) while you are at 200 yards I will shoot right over your head. If I do the same but aim at your chest I am going to hit you neck/head and get the kill. The 5.56 round has a very flat trajectory. Did all that make sense? Some times I can't explain things as well as I think lol. -
The day in the life of an utter expert
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to mooky32's topic in General Discussion
This story would have kicked ass if you just typed it up instead of typing while you gave yourself a reach around. Check the ego at the door next time playboy, bragging is dumb, especially when you provide no video or photo's.- 496 replies

Lots of cool looks in this game. I enjoy this one. (If any devs read this make the baseball hats fitted please  ).

My apologies for beating you to death with a fire extinguisher.

Relax meat pie, he is obviously playing some other game and accidentally posted this here. -
What to do when geared on DayZ for fun?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to thebalfrog's topic in General Discussion
So you get fully geared up and then hand cuff new spawns? :| Let me save you some time. Don't get fully geared up, just find a pair of cuffs and an axe and you can do the same thing. I try to help people. That is much more difficult than just killing everyone I see. (Not knocking anyone elses style, this game needs everyone and every style. The sand box is big enough for us all) -
So first you say that you are 'forced' to server hop and then you want to ban server hoppers? Don't make sense man. The reason loot does not respawn is not because they don't know how to write a script for it. The same for zombies.

Vertical Hand Grips (Daily Suggestion #2)

I believe it is the random spread, but I could be wrong on that. -
Bipod attaches to handguard but not light? (Please change this)
DevilDog (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
So just another thing I have noticed about the M4 today. The bipod can attach to the 'regular' hand guards but not the flashlight. If you look at both attachments they have the same attachment system that would attach to any picatinny rail system. There are rail attachments you can connect to the 'regular' hand guards to allow these to attach to it, but if one can then both can. I am not a game coder but this can't be too tough to fix. -
Vertical Hand Grips (Daily Suggestion #2)
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I am not a fan of that at all, but I know many people who swear by them lol. I would love to see it in game. More options like you said are better. -
Does anybody know optimal fps settings for me? :P
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to Sanitöter's topic in General Discussion
Listen, I have read a million posts on FPS and watched 100 videos on it and they all say something different. Do exactly what I did and you will be ok. Go to your start menu in the game. Take note of what your FPS is. Mine was 18 at the time. Then go into video settings and change your resolution. This will have a decent sized impact on FPS and graphics. I keep mine at 100% (keep yours where it looks good but still has a decent FPS, start and 100% and you can go back later). Then go to Quality, Rendering and Textures and change each setting. Try the setting on several levels (disabled, low, normal, high ect) and see what your FPS does each one and see what the graphics do too. As you go through each one keep an eye on the FPS. Some things don't change it at all and others have massive impacts on FPS. One setting even appeared to make the graphics AND FPS worse lol. When you are done with all of the settings you will be at your best. When I got done I went from 18 FPS to 40 FPS on that screen (some start screens are different). I run about 35 FPS on average now in the game. I did sacrifice some FPS for looks though, because I am not in this game to "win"; I want to enjoy it. Plus 5-10 FPS doesn't make a ton of difference. -
Vertical Hand Grips (Daily Suggestion #2)
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I am not asking for some magic super weapon here, just simply the same benefit that a bipod gives, but while standing/kneeling. I love the realism and am all for that system though. Not sure if they will ever do it, but either way this grip should be in there. -
Bipod attaches to handguard but not light? (Please change this)
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Very nice. You see that piece attached to the hand guard? They make small picatinny rail sections that do that. Then you attach the bipod to it. BUT the flashlight can attach to that rail as well, because the attachment system is the exact same. I actually said this in the OP "There are rail attachments you can connect to the 'regular' hand guards to allow these to attach to it, but if one can then both can." -
Good idea they should add more zombies too and more firearms and add in hunting and camp fires and cooking.
