It is not enabled yet. But you can put the stove on the ground and put the pot on top. That is as far as you can go. I am guessing you will be able to add water and rice later on to cook.

Item list for items with limited to no use + Tips and Rumors
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to IIvIIozzie's topic in General Discussion
Not sure why people are upset about this post, there really is not a list around (that I have seen) that says what is working and what is not right now. Good thread IMO. I have gotten the pot attached to the stove, but could not put water or canned food or rice in it to cook. That part is not in game from what I hear. I did leave the pot on the burner for others to see haha. Sticks and RAGS are used to make splints. This does work. Splints take up 3 slots horizontally. (I have not broken my leg, but I hear morphine like ModZ heals it too). I have not seen any revolvers yet, but the ammo is there. Bipod works when prone to help aim. I have tried the paper and pen thing but it never works. If it does some one needs to say how (seeing a note does not mean anything). -
Come into my hood and I shoot you...wait what? Every game I have ever played was better with hoods.

What about a "Doctors kit"? Use: Take Vitals
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Add that to the kit as well. That would be excellent. That is true, I would just like to be able to check them for myself rather than trying to figure out which cough and grumble they have lol. I will make due either way. -
Was it me that gave it to you? Anyway. Similar situation I filled a few blood bags from a stranger, he said everything went black so I gave him the IV. The server was resetting though so I wonder if I did the IV while the server still remembered everything. Anyway I will be online in a little over an hour if anyone wants to test out any medical stuff. I died but think I have gathered enough to test out BB and IVs. I would also like to find some one with different blood type and put their blood in me to see the effects. Dedication to my craft.

Do you think now zombies are a threat?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to blurhitz's topic in General Discussion
They are an issue if you don't have rags/bandages for sure. I know they will be re-vamped/fixed what ever you want to say so I won't complain about them right now. I hope they become a bigger threat, at least in the bigger cities and the military bases/air fields. -
Nope. Thanks will do that.

How butthurt do you get when you die in Dayz? :)
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to Jaygoon's topic in General Discussion
I honestly never get mad. If a player kills me I am disappointed that I allowed it to happen. If the DayZ gods decide to take me I just shrug and get to looting. -
Are screenshots working? Every time I try to take one I get a shot of my desktop, not of the game.

The future importance of hunting, cooking, the northlands and rare items (with pics!)
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to serenityrick's topic in General Discussion
I have heard many times they plan on having a farming type of system. -
I trust anyone that sees me first and calls out to me. One guy was asking for a bandage, another guy just wandered up behind me and said hi lol. Other than them I trusted the guy I watched walking around Elektro. He was literally just walking, very calmly. We ended up in the same building and he could hear me on the 3rd floor eat and we had a laugh. Then he let me take 4 blood bags from him, which almost killed him, but I gave him an IV to heal him. I tested his blood, he took a syringe of mine and then the server had a reset and we vanished. I don't trust anyone at bases or airfields. They are always bad news. I have a mic but since I moved I have not found it, your first post hits home with me. I need to find it. I am really at a disadvantage without being able to talk. Typing keeps my hands occupied too much.

The future importance of hunting, cooking, the northlands and rare items (with pics!)
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to serenityrick's topic in General Discussion
I think canned food will have a chance to get you sick, unless you use the disinfectant spray to clean it. Also as cans get damaged it will/should have a chance to get you sick. So right off the bat hunting is cleaner/safer. Now I will present the 'nutrition' facts to give an example of why hunting > gathering. (Note: These are numbers from the Wiki, I have no clue where they got them). Can Baked Beans Energy Water Uses Stomach Calorie 462 330 4 440 299 Wild Steaks (All listed as the same right now, not sure if that is meant to be) Energy Water Uses Stomach Calorie 735 189 1 300 114 By this you can see that the fresh meat gives you a bigger boost to energy while taking up less stomach space. Remember eating too much food at once will make you sick. These are the numbers for canned Tuna vs fresh tuna. Canned - 475 energy Fresh - 2000 energy That is a huge benefit. Another benefit is the diminishing return of food. So you may think you will just eat a bunch of cans rather than a few steaks but the more food you eat at once the less benefit it will have. No more carbo-loading like a marathon runner. Another benefit of the cooking set is water. Right now all water in game is clean. That won't always be the case. You will either have to carry water purification tablets to clean water OR use your cooking set to boil it. So your choice. Delegate 6 slots for your cooking gear or carry canned food + soda or water tablets. Plus keep in mind your cans can get damaged and get you sick. The survival aspect of this game seems to be getting a huge boost. -
I have not found one, but thought I was shot by one. Since I got killed I didn't have the chance to ask the guy haha. There is no shotgun yet. I can't wait for the shotgun to show up, that will be my long gun of choice if there is something other than the double barrel.

You could give map coords to the stuff. This would be a good idea if you got a bunch of people into it. I think once the tents are back in the game this would be really cool. I am not big into all the super high end military gear so I might consider going this route.

Propane Stoves? Do they work
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Once you put the stove on the ground and access your inventory just drag your pot over to the stove in the "Vicinity" area. Then it should appear on top of the stove. Pretty cool looking. I built one and left it there. It was in a hall way with an extra propane bottle and fire ext. I sat down and tried to take a screen shot but they don't work. Always glad to hear other people are enjoying this game as much as I am. -
Something I wanted to say (positive Alpha thoughts)
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to Nipson's topic in General Discussion
I really wonder how many of these people have taken part in Beta testing before for other games. I don't have the most experience but I have beta tested two other games and I BOUGHT this one with expectations based on my past experiences with testing. This "alpha" has blown away the other two beta's that I tested. Sure some features don't work / are not 'turned' on yet, but this is a very solid game especially for an alpha. I have not died at all on a later/roof (unlike the mod). I did fall from a later but just before I hit the ground I appeared on the later again and all was safe. I also had a door open inside a house and push me through the wall down to the ground, but again I appeared back in the house safe. That is a major fix over the mod already. I didn't get it until after the last update, so I eagerly await the next one. Great game so far, just keep giving feedback and help shape this development. -
Propane Stoves? Do they work
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
In case anyone else is searching for this answer you have to place the stove on the ground and then light it. After that you can place the pot on it. As of now you can't cook anything in it. I assume later on you will be able to make the rice and other food. Being a chef might be as important as being a medic haha. -
How MOUT has changed (Military Operations in Urban Terrain)
DevilDog (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
I knew they were going to be adding way more buildings that you can enter in the SA and all I could think is "awesome I can loot so much more". Now that I am playing the SA (and not the mod) I noticed how much urban combat has really changed. Cities used to be pretty mundane with long stretches of buildings you can't enter. Now every building (seems like 95% at least) can be entered. Most have multiple doors so you can go in one way and come out another. Trying to fight basically came down to running around buildings trying to get the drop on the other guy. Avoiding the buildings with roofs you can go on, and the few buildings with windows. It is absolutely fantastic to have the ability to go into all different buildings, roof tops are really becoming death sentences now. Anyway, is anyone else really enjoying this aspect of the game now? It may not be Staligrad, Berlin or Chechnya but it is a whole lot more fun than ModZ was in that aspect. -
I have always liked the "skills/class" idea, but it didn't seem too popular with the ModZ crowd. I think with skills instead of getting experience points or something like that from doing it in game you gain skills by reading books that you find in game. Everyone should be able to do anything, but some people are just better. Play a medic and gain enough skill you can blood bag yourself. Play a mechanic and gain enough skill you can fix more stuff with less tools ect.

How MOUT has changed (Military Operations in Urban Terrain)
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
@deceasedPath and @ Zogvarn I agree 100%. So much more fun now. I almost always crouch while clearing buildings. A guy shot at me from behind the hospital yesterday while I was searching it, I managed to get out of the room before he shot me though. Then I was able to run across the street and "vanish" (into the many buildings not log out) before he could get around the hospital. Next thing you know I am in a third story window overlooking a building he is looting and as he goes out onto the roof I got him. -
Why is the world of dayz so static ?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to pogosphere's topic in General Discussion
LMAO. Plays zombie survival game. Complains he can't destroy a fence with an axe :| -
I don't mind people that KOS at all. It is people that KOS from up in the tree line just laying there waiting that suck. For the other KOS types it is just natural, you never know what people will do. I logged tonight after server reset and first stop was the hospital. I went into the very first room on the bottom floor and outside the window was a guy walking up to the building. I see his rifle pop up and head out the door. BANG! Off goes his shot. Game on. I take off running and try to get the drop on him. I duck into a few buildings and finally see him looting on the roof across the street. BANG! Down he goes. Then I fire another shot to make sure he is dead. The whole thing lasted about 10 minutes but it was very fun. Two minutes later I am looting the firehouse and as I walk downstairs I guy runs in a starts swinging his axe at me. I run outside and he chases me, I turn and drop him with the .45 Some of the best time I have had in the game. All thanks to some KOSers.

3d person cheating with screenshots
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to SoWeMeetAgain's topic in General Discussion
This. In the real world you have more senses than just vision looking straight forward and sound. When I play in 1st person I can barely tell what's going on around me. Also I would lose my mind if I just watched trees going by while traveling. I enjoy watching the character, their clothes, gear, movements ect. Long story short I don't think 3rd person will go anywhere, other than on a server by server basis. -
Probably not a bug, but an issue (multiple med kits)
DevilDog (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
Been running around playing the medic role and have come across this issue. If I have several med kits on me I can only open 1 of them. Even if I hot key them I just open the same one.
