Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
So getting back on track here. Yeah I end up taking some hostile fire. That is part of the fun though. I tried making contact with a guy tonight then his buddy came running out from behind a building with an M4, I took off, he got some shots off and hit me once, I ran into a building and more bullets went flying. I ended up losing them in the city and bandaging myself up. Then they were gone. It was a ton of fun though. -
For anyone that knows of James Mattis you will notice I changed these a bit. Everyone go google him now. He is awesome. "Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet." (this one is unchanged) "I don't get intelligence off a satellite. Zombies tell me where the enemy is." "Engage your brain before you engage your weapon." (shortened but unchanged) "Demonstrate to the world there is 'No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy' than a medic that can shoot. " "Be the hunter, not the hunted: Never allow your self to be caught with its guard down." "There are hunters and there are victims. By your discipline, cunning, obedience and alertness, you will decide if you area a hunter or a victim."

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
I really enjoy it. The mod I just rushed around everywhere, from place to place to place just trying to all the loot in the world. I had tents and cars and more tents and crap everywhere. Going to play this a bit different. I just want to walk around the cities and enjoy the game. It feels weird to throw away M4s that I find but I got used to it. -
Will melee be improved to be more realistic?

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
This is not how it would be in real life haha. In real life you don't get killed and start over on the beach, you just die. The people that act like this would all be killed off very quickly. Anyway, it is a risk you run. I play in Elektro mostly, but might branch out a bit. I have had hit and miss success. I only carry a side arm now, when I find rifles I hide them in the bushes. I have helped a few people out, been attacked by several people with axes and with firearms. I have only been killed twice doing this and both were by guys with M4s. A third guy with an M4 and his friend almost killed me but I was able to lose them in the city and bandage up, then I got stuck inside a wall. Rule #1: Always have a handgun. I prefer the chest holster, but you can do backpack. You can beat long guns with just a pistol if you do it right, plus gun beats axe usually. Rule #2: Try to walk as much as possible. If you are walking people don't think you are coming to attack them or steal 'their' loot. Rule #3: Escalation of force and awareness. Always keep an eye on what is going on around you. -
what plays dayz mod or SA on a laptop?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to humberto's topic in General Discussion
I play on a laptop, spent about $1200 for it a little over a year ago. Asus G75vw. Intel Core i7 3610QM 2.30 GHz 8GB ram Windows 7 GeForce GTX 660M I generally get around 30 FPS, which is not bad. I play pretty well with anything above 20. I have most of the settings maxed. Res 100% Quality: Very high Very high Disabled Normal Rendering: All disabled FXAA High Low Textures: Auto Very High Disabled If anyone has tips to improve performance I would appreciate it. I won't sacrifice my viewing pleasure though. -
Night time In Dayz SA and your thoughts?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to BlackDalia's topic in General Discussion
The darkness is pretty cool, I have not found a server that is not all night or all day though, then again I have been playing the same three servers for the last week and a half. I certainly gets this dark and darker in real life though. I live in a small valley and between the trees and mountains I can't walk to the end of my driveway without a flash light at night. It is partly because of the bears in the area too though haha. These are not huge mountains either, only 100 or so feet up. -
How's everyone's DayZ experience's so far, since she's been released?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to BRKermit's topic in General Discussion
Been having a great time. Tested everything (that I can think of) to test in the game. Had some great gun fights. Killed a guy in the firehouse only to take an axe in the head from his friend. Died a few times from a glitch or a server shutdown. Overall been very fun. I hope the next update comes soon and we get some new stuff to play around with. -
Suggestion: Bolt Cutters and Bladder (W/Pictures)
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to globalfriction's topic in General Discussion
Great way to present ideas. I don't think I would carry either. I have recently went from 2 canteens to just 1. BUT once wells become poisoned and water purifying pills are needed it would be worth using on the larger bladder instead of smaller canteen. -
Why do people think there would be more civilian weapons than military?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
Balota has always looked paved to me. :| A dirt runway does not equal an airport. I will take back the comment of all airports having police though since that is neither here nor their since the ones in game do have it. My only point is that these 'military weapons' are not far fetched and certainly not restricted to the military. -

DevilDog (DayZ) replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
Haven't been to many airfields? I spent 5 years flying in helicopters for the US Marine Corps and have spent 6 loading planes for the Air Force. I have seen my fair share of airfields. Balota is not a dirt field. The airfields YOU have been to don't have that presence, it does not mean that no airfield anywhere has it. This one obviously does, considering the jail, and several barracks. I am not saying the jail/police station would have 1 M4 pre outbreak. They would absolutely have more, but finding 1 straggler afterward would not be far fetched. The point anyway is that not just the military uses them, the police do as well. -
Just figured I would share this cause not much is known right now and I didn't see it anywhere. A few things about blood types. 1) Each time you die your blood type will change. You can't just check it once and think that is your type for ever. (I have been 0+ and A+ so far, which are the two most common) 2) Donors: This is taken from the Red Cross, I assume the game will follow this guideline. There are 4 types (O, A, B, AB). O: Gives to anyone. Gets from O A: Gives to A or AB. Gets from O or A B: Gives to B or AB. Gets from O or B AB: Gives to AB. Gets from anyone 3) In addition to that, there is the Rh factor (+ or -) +: Gives to +. Gets + or - -: Gives to - or +. Gets -. 4) So if you want to be able to get any blood you want AB+. If you want to be able to give to anyone you want O- (I was actually able to get 3 bags of O- blood before the character wipe haha). 5) Getting a transfusion of incorrect blood type will give you a hymolytic reaction. Basically you are dead. I have not had the chance to do this to myself, but will when I get the chance to see how long it takes and if you can survive it. 6) A blood transfusion (apparently) only gives 1000 blood and has added dangers, so it should only be used in an emergency. 7) The blood bag has everything you need to take blood. It will take up two spots once filled with blood. Then you need to attach an IV kit to the blood bag in order to use it.

Blood types, Blood bags and Transfusions
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Fair enough. I pretty much play on my own all the time as well, at least until this thing gets further along. But it is pretty realistic that things will be tougher for you if you are alone. You need to be more safe. If you get hurt trying to heal yourself will be tougher than if you had a buddy with you. I usually hang out in the south and if you need a hand I can come fix you up  -
Blood types, Blood bags and Transfusions
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The one thing I would like to change is that the bags need to be marked some how with the blood. Hope they fix that. @Lemonator you can test your blood type by using a blood test kit. They are not really that rare, I usually end up with a bunch of them; I loot hospitals far more than I do air fields. -

DevilDog (DayZ) replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
I think it is a mistake to think that M4 or AK or DMR or M24 are military only weapons. That is just silly. Every police department in the US has M4s and DMR/M24 type firearms. Hell the M24 is just a remington 700 with a fancy stock, I got one in my closet. The DMR is just an M14 with a fancy stock and scope. The police in many east Europe countries have AKs as well. So maybe Balota is not a military base, maybe it is an airport with a police presence. All airport police have those same firearms. The rest seem to be camps and stuff, perhaps from troops that moved into the area to help stop the outbreak. Finding 1 M4 in a jailhouse / police station is not far fetched. -
Blood types, Blood bags and Transfusions

Also sometimes you will find a Saline Bag with no IV attached. In that case you would need to take the IV kit and attached it to the Saline Bag. @SemiPr0 There is a few simple fixes for that. 1) You can do like Phoboss said and arrange things before hand with your friends. 2) You can look around until you find some one with O- (not that hard as O is the most popular type) and collect several bags of it. 3) You can just skip the blood bags and go with saline bags, if you can find enough of them. In the event there is a big battle and your medics run out of saline the blood bag offers a nice emergency alternative. If you, or anyone else, would rather just die than try to live then you are probably better off playing COD than DayZ since this is a survival game. Me personally I take it as a point of pride when I almost die and find a way to survive. But I once spent 2 days in the mod crawling around the NWAF until I found some morphine to fix my broken leg. ;) -

Use saline. It is just like the old blood bags. @Phoboss very nice find. Love the blood splatter. -

DevilDog (DayZ) replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Thanks. I think it is worth mentioning that a saline IV will max out your blood and is safer, so that is the best route to go if you can find them. I have not had the chance to test out the saline bags but there is some people that said they don't last, almost like a temporary fix. I will update if I get more info on that. -

Played for an hour or so today and...
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to Mdogg2005's topic in General Discussion
This is the Call of Duty generation. They see a first person shooter (type) game and want to go shoot other players. Also in COD everyone has a gun and knows that it is KOS, so when they play this they can gain an upper hand and "win" more without danger. I really love the bandit aspect of this game and applaud all of the bandits that play their role. All of these treeline snipers that just want to play COD in DayZ are simply playing the wrong game. -

He didn't say you get to choose where you spawn, just random spawning on the map, but away from coast. I know I have already spawned in SA away from the coast at one city up north. It certainly makes it fun and more difficult to figure out where you are for sure. Modular back pack. So I can attach a few med kits or magazine pouches to the outside of it, like the molle webbing packs that are everywhere today. -
how much food and water does it take to get healthy?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to AfterShave's topic in General Discussion
It might be another cause. You might have an infection from an injury. Try to get some alcohol and clean your wounds. This will make you "sick" for a little bit then your cuts will be cleaned and you will be better. -
I loved that gun too. Used it a lot when I was play Cherno Life.
