I don't play this game as myself. I play as a character I come up with. Even if others don't know my back story and stuff that is how I determine my actions in game. Most people play along with me even if they don't know. Sure there are some KOS things that happen, but that makes it more fun to me. Maybe they are just crazy bandits that are attacking me, so I react accordingly. I helped a guy today. He went running by blood spewing out and being chased by 4-5 zombies. I shot them all and badaged him up and we chatted a bit and even though he was not a role player he certainly played the role of victim well lol. Even if people ask where I am from I generally respond "grew up in Elektro". Not much happens in this game that breaks my RP experience including the KOS situations. I say have at it. These medics, CQF and Whiskey Co may not advertise as role players, but they do a good job anyway. Just curious OP, what would your character role be? I love to hear these ideas.

So you play video games? You know this isn't real right? RIGHT? Please tell me you know this. RP is very possible, there are many groups that have formed and at least have some type of RP. Doctors, military groups, all sorts of things. The mod had many groups, as did most of the other Arma Mods.

In my opinion, the current compass is an example of over-design.
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in General Discussion
This. I wonder if these guys are not using space bar to see it. I do it and it is much faster than trying to do it in real life. -
Great input everyone, thanks for the feedback. Would like to hear from the 1 no vote haha, I guess nothing on the internet is unanimous.

Need Medical Assistance in DayZ SA ? Find Your medic here!
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to TMWMarijke's topic in General Discussion
Very glad to see you guys make an appearance in SA. I was a white listed medic under the old system, mind if I give you guys a hand? Prior to the outbreak I was a cop with the Chernarus PD assigned to the Coastal Division. I generally still work in the Elektro area, but can be found all along the coast. Was patching up some wounded today and giving blood transfusions. Let me know if you guys need a hand, I will stop by your TS when I find my mic. -
Ringing ears too, great idea. I just wish people wouldn't work around it by lower the game volume and just using teamspeak or something instead.

I like that slow death one as well. Any killing shot that is not in the head/heart should be a 5 second death where the screen just fades away to the death screen. I personally would expand the medical system (my preference, not for everyone) to include surgical tools. You get shot in the chest or gut or lungs and you start to bleed, you bandage it but are still in danger of death. Lets say 5-10 minutes before you die, unless you find some one with surgical tools to save your life.

walking without weapons 90% chance of survival
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
How do you guys feel about some one with a pistol in the chest holster? I could hide the pistol and you wouldn't know, but I prefer the look of the holster over the other options. -
Heal any sickness, clean wounds, take food and water a lot and you should be ok.

Nice post Intactus. I think one thing this game does not take into account, that real life does is weight. The Mosin weighs almost 10 pounds on it's own. Then add in ammo and you start to see why you go another route. Game wise there is no need. Start getting into better optics and changeable butts and magazines and flashlights and the M4 starts looking good, even in the game. People get hung up on things being "old guns". When I was in the USMC my main weapon was the M2 .50 cal. which was designed in 1918. My grandfather shot the same gun from a B-17 in WW2. Good guns don't need to change. Modern society is what drives changes in fire arms. The M16 has barely changed through the years, but we drive little changes, it functions the same though.

What you think of the community in DayZ?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to TheNerdySecret's topic in Gallery
If you search out what you are looking for in DayZ you will find it. Role Players, PVP COD types, lost souls, lost bambi's, loners and anything else you want is here. So I am very happy with this community. People complain because every single person they run into isn't 'their type' but that is what makes this so great. -
I don't mind lesser damage on limbs or outer torso, but head/neck/face/chest should all be kills with 1-2 max shots from any gun. Shotguns will hopefully have higher damage, with the slug at least. As for the SKS vs Mosion comment its not right. The SKS is more of an AK in terms of damage. It fires a 7.62x 39 vs the 7.62x54 of the Mosin. The longer barrel and larger cartridge lead to the velocity of 2,838 ft/s for the Mosin and 2411 ft/s for the SKS. This equals more damage and I hope the game reflects this. (Take either to the chest and you are likely gone haha).

I think it could definitely work. You would not have to be stuck sitting in a building waiting out a storm, that would be boring. What could happen though is that as it snows and the temp is low you need to go build a fire to dry out our clothes, maybe just takes a few minutes. So you go out, scavenge around then start to get cold or wet (depending on weather) and have to remedy it. Hand warmers work as a temporary short term fix, but building a fire and going inside with a heat source is your best option. So it is not static, sitting there doing nothing, but just a consciousness about the weather. As for the seasons I love it. Would be cool if in a real world month you have 10 day of Summer, 5 of Fall, 10 Winter and 5 Spring. Spring and Fall would be the best time to hunt, with winter being the worst. Summer would be the best time to fish, again winter the worst. Maybe use an axe to cut through ice to get drinking water? All the water pumps would be frozen though. So you could stock up on supplies knowing that "Winter is Coming". There is so much potential for either just the atmosphere or the atmosphere + game play.

Did they change the spawning-mechanic?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to HardstylerSL's topic in General Discussion
I have spawned there 5 times. Think it is normal. -
That movie freaked me out man. I just kept thinking about if that was me and my boy. Fuck that shit. Crazy movie. You are right it is similar. Most interactions I have now I wave, then they shoot at me and I run off. Or they charge me with an axe and I shoot them.

I could get on board with that. So using my earlier example, if all skills are ranked 0-10. A medic/emt can start at Medical 2 and can go up to 10. While a soldier would start "Medical" with 0 and could go to 8 or something. That is not too bad. I think to make Mechanic more useful you would need less wear and tear if a mechanic drives.

I like that, but it would be a matter of time before I just went to WIki to read them all.

Suggestion: Left Hand Option (W/Pictures)
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to globalfriction's topic in General Discussion
When I shoot the M-16 series of rifles my nose is close enough to get popped by the charging handle. >:( -
I don't think that group survival thing would really work in this game. Everyone has to have weapon skills, so everyone would end up being a medic, other than your odd mechanic here and there. I think it would be a cool idea for a certain game, but I don't want to be restricted (I'd still play of course). I do like the idea of books though. Maybe not to learn skills but at least requiring a manual for a specific vehicle to fix it. Lots of great ideas, I just hope what ever they implement does not change the game.

Unconfirmed Weapons from official Russian Wiki
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to Ultramarine Neko's topic in General Discussion
I am a fan of any and all shotguns. They are always the bastard child in games, I hope that is not the case this time. -
As long as "classes" don't limit what a player can do there is no issue. Lets say this for instance. You have skills and any player can do any skill. So it could go like this. (This is dumbed down only using very few examples just to illustrate my point) Skills- (Each skill has 10 'levels') Medical- Increases speed of medical applications Mechanical- Increases speed of mechanical applications Rifles- Increases reload speed, decreased wear Pistols- Increases reload speed, decreased wear Keep in mind, the more you do something the better your skill becomes, regardless of what "class" you are. Now 3 classes you can choose from. Medic/EMT- Med 2, Mech 1, Rifles 0, Pistols 0 Soldier- Rifles 2, Pistols 1, Med 0, Mech 0 Cop- Pistol 2, Med1, Mech 0, Rifles 0 So you start with a little boost towards certain skills, but nothing stops you from going in any direction when you are playing. Started as a Medic and want to get better mech skills, go do it. As long as the boosts are small and don't limit/hinder later game play I think it would be fine.

Blood chart, notepad, map, & community links in your Steam overlay browser
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to Gruso (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Awesome. That note pad will become very useful if there is ever a way to ID people, like character tags, when you mouse over their character. I think a handy medical guide would be useful. I'll see how it fleshes out first. -
You can't actually cook anything. But you can turn the oven on and put the pot on there. I thought it would be a cool photo. I have honestly never seen the devildog from youtube but get asked that a lot.
-
That is awesome. I normally don't watch the vids, glad I did. "You can't cage the yeti!"

Good work. With all the role play that is happening and more bound to happen I am waiting for a clan (or individuals) to be combat photographers or just regular photographers. Would be pretty cool. Once I start hosting the fight club I will invite you down lol.
