How I optimized DayZ to get a constant 30 FPS while preserving game graphics quality
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to demine0's topic in General Discussion
I actually think I went from 32 down to 25 doing this, standing in the same spot. I will test it out again just to double check. Will take screen shots as well. -
Fire Axe only plausible weapon?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to Manichampionman's topic in General Discussion
Only one hit kill all the time? Yes. Only one hit kill? No. Splitting axe to the head is (other wise 2). Only plausible melee weapon? No. I don't even use the fire axe anymore. I prefer the wood splitting axe. I am sure it will get over hauled but I would like to see it along these lines. Fire Axe - 1 hit Wood Axe - 1.5 hit (hit to head 1, body 2) Knife (hunting, bayonet, kitchen) - 2 (shortest range) Crow Bar - 3 Pipe Wrench - 3-4 (shorter range though) Shovel - 4 Baseball bat - 4-5 (with nail spikes 3) Fire Ext - 5 (last resort) -
Anyone ever read "The Road" by Jack London? These tracks remind me of that book. People never loot cars.

All got different clothes. So either he changed his default each time or it is different people. This is hilarious. You know a game is tough when people KILL THEMSELVES IN THE GAME haha. I love it.

What are your self imposed rules and regulations when playing?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to serenityrick's topic in General Discussion
I don't combat log. Why play if you are going to do that. No server hopping. I just don't have time for all that non-sense. Don't KOS. Try to make contact with anyone I see. The social aspect of this game is why it's great. Offer help to anyone I can. Just a role I have chosen for myself. I don't always pick full servers, depends what I am doing. In the beginning I had a bunch of things I wanted to try so I picked lower pop ones. Now I play on 20+ servers when I can. Its funny I have run into people on 3 person servers and not seen anyone on 30 person servers lol. -
Guess they didn't like how it was working out. I don't like it either. Get people out of their comfort zone.
-
I agree. They should add things in the game that are just bad decisions lol. This would be one of them. The Colt Python is a double action revolver though, no need to cock them back.

An Issue with the New Spawns AKA "The Kamyshovo Massacre"
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to wgaf's topic in General Discussion
Character didn't load correctly today so had to respawn. I loved it. Took about 6 minutes to get to Elektro. Also I love seeing more people travelling now instead of just sitting in chernlota-dieing-spawning-sitting in chernlota -
What's with the random unusual noises?
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Animals are making zombie noises they said that, I think the sound stuff is still being worked on. It does freak me out some times as well. -
If they do that then when "you guys" spawn north of Elektro you would just kill yourself until you spawn in Cherno again. At that point they might as well just let you pick where you want to spawn.

I have settled in Elektro rather nicely. Got used to it in Cherno Life and now with all the enter able buildings I like it even more. Found a nice home and an apartment I like to use. Great views from both. Last night I began a trip to walk the map though so I am not home atm, actually up by your neck of the woods about to pass through your town. But with all the spawns to the east now I think my city is going to see a lot more action, which is good for me. I like helping folks and don't mind the fire fights as well. Nice thread though. :beans:

You don't find blood anymore, you find blood bags and fill it with the type you want. Type O is one of the most popular types. I only see O or A in game. And don't worry you will die and then it will change so no problems.
-
I have found a bunch of revolvers and some bullets as well, but anyone find speed loaders? I thought they were in game now.

Just got standalone earlier after playing mod for a longtime
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to charms's topic in General Discussion
Haven't people realized it is impossible? Way too many issues with trying to do that. -
Would anyone want this type of system or no? I love the realism in this game but think they could do a bit more with the battle system. At the end of the day it still seems a bit like CoD to me. Simply referring to the actual combat, not the reason for getting into it. You run around and shoot the other guys, they shoot you and then some one dies. What if they added more to it? Real world you charge me with an axe and I shoot you in the torso (in a non fatal location) you won't continue to charge me until I kill you. The round will stop you in your tracks and likely won't allow you to continue the attack. In the game you just keep charging till you die. I think these are some ways to change the way combat goes, just slightly, to make it more real/fun. If you get shot in the head you die. That is simple enough, no status effects need. Torso- (This goes for non lethal torso shots) -Vision blurred (Only lasts 5-10 seconds, longer for more rounds taken) -Very shaky aim (Lasts until you get morphine) -Bleeding (Lasts until you bandage it) Legs- (This goes for non lethal shots again. It should take more leg shots to kill you than Torso) -Leg injury (functions just like broken legs. Lasts until you get morphine. Maybe cured with time?) -Bleeding (Lasts until you bandage it) It is not too complicated and makes battle a little more than we run around until some one dies. What I really like is the survivor of the fight will likely have to tend to medical issues, more than just a bandage. Example 1. I ran into a building with the M4, I was surprised by a guy running out with an M4, we unloaded on each other and he died (I was shot a few times). His friend that was upstairs came down and by then I had bandaged myself up and shot him before he could get a shot off with his hand gun. After taking multiple shots like I did I should not have been able to take on the next guy like that. Example 2. I am running around with my pistol and a guy starts chasing me with an axe, I turn and fire on him. I hit him a couple times but he charges on and whacks me in the head with his axe and I die. After getting shot he should not have continued on like nothing happened. Provided two examples, one where the current system helped me, one where it hurt me. Any other status effects you would like to see? I wanted to keep it simple so it is not game breaking. (Dangers from being attacked other than these effects) Things that might kill you from being attacked. 1st- Initial damage. Brain and Heart are examples of instant kill spots. 2nd- Bleeding out. Even if you survive the initial onslaught you might bleed to death. 3rd- Shock/Heart attack. So the attack didn't kill you and you got bandaged up. There is still a chance you go into shock (in game already although not activated yet) or have heart issues. This is where the defrib comes into play. 4th- Infection. So you survived the worst of it all but still run the risk of having infected wounds. Use the alcohol to clean it and a fresh bandage and you should be ok. Neglect your wounds and you will be in a world of hurt.

Was thinking a bit more about this. I think there should be a few different "threat levels". For instance. (Added to original post) Things that might kill you from being attacked. 1st- Initial damage. Brain and Heart are examples of instant kill spots. 2nd- Bleeding out. Even if you survive the initial onslaught you might bleed to death. 3rd- Shock/Heart attack. So the attack didn't kill you and you got bandaged up. Just want to see community preference on 1st/ 3rd person servers quickly.
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to AP_Norris's topic in General Discussion
They won't ever get rid of 3rd person. This is a poll asking which server you are more likely to play on. No one is getting screwed at all, have no fear. -
After pretty much nailing down the energy/thirst mechanic.. Let's think long term:
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to serenityrick's topic in General Discussion
No idea. I am thinking it would make sense for the cans to need cleaning, not things like rice, cereal ect. As for the infinite running thing, I still would love them to add packs of dogs. These dogs won't just attack on site when ever they see, but if they are threatened they will. Also if they see you running they will chase and attack you and they are faster than you sprinting. Would make the sprint away from zeds plan more dangerous. -

Sickness will (hopefully) balance all that out. Right now you can kneel by the well and spam the drink button. In the future this will most certainly make you sick. So you will need to fill the water bottle, purify it (boil or pills), drink it, repeat. That will be time consuming. As for food, I believe the canned food will get you sick also unless you use the disinfectant spray on it. Sickness and food/water will play a bigger imo once it is all in place. -
Can't kill unarmed guys in those games. :| You said you can't get military loot from there in under 40 minutes, that is 100% wrong. As for you other point of "there is nothing to do along the way". You can do anything along the way and in Berezino that you can do in Cherno. Your third point, I think, is that looting houses sucks cause they don't have military loot. If you want that loot you have to go get it. This is not a military sim. You don't start decked out with military gear. It sucks that I have to run around looting in 50 houses to find the gas stove I am looking for, but I do it. It sucks I have to look all over for .357 ammo, but I do it. If you just want awesome gear all the time this probably isn't the game for you. Are there any other points you made that I should address? Now my turn for a question. Did you play the mod? Everyone used to spawn on the south coast and the only way to get military loot was to run up to Stary or NWAF or NEAF. Balota had no military gear. It was fine then and is fine now. That gear is not meant to have in the first 5 minutes of game play.
-
Double benefit. 1) They can't get the high end guns quite as fast. 2) Once they get it there are less bambi's around to kill since they are all on the east coast. LOL. I have not died yet but Berezino was my favorite city in ModZ so I support these changes.
-
The NEAF is only a few minutes from Berezino and I have found M16s in firehouses and the third floor of the school in Berezino. So you are 100% wrong.

"OooOOhh" - "That hurts..." Player groaning
DevilDog (DayZ) replied to Rednightjoe's topic in General Discussion
That usually is some type of infection. Going to either need alcohol to clean your wounds or antibiotics. When I get hit by a zombie if I start making those noises I use the alcohol right away. -

You haven't even gotten the votes to halfway fill up a server, I think you will be ok ;) Just to clarify my earlier post, I fully support 1st person servers. I think this game has always been good at taking care of different player bases and added them does not hurt anyone. -
So the only place to get gear is in Balota? I have not been to Balota since my 2nd or 3rd day playing this game and have managed to get every piece of gear (other than the media vest thing).
