I agree with OP in that any game or mod with 100k+ active users needs as much communication as possible to appease the masses. But, I think it's a bit shortsighted to say that the devs aren't communicating with the community on various topics, and incendiary threads like this will only encourage fanboy-ism and flaming. Perhaps suggesting a better way of communicating under certain circumstances would be more helpful to our dedicated DayZ team. Example: Forum Devtracker - link to all dev posts sorted by date Server status webpage which displays any known issues with the database etc. I wouldn't designate responding for forum complaints as a fun job any more than fixing the database or other server issues, but the latter has to take priority or the former will serve no purpose.

It's a combination of experience level and bugs. Experienced players know that the infected are not to be trusted under any circumstances because of bugs (they were far buggier in the past). But to be fair to the infected, the bugs are really the only advantage they have. 1.7.2 seems to have introduced a few more bugs than the previous version, and DayZ has become a little more interesting as a result.

1.7.2 - How To Get Through a Day *Spoilers*
Electrolyte replied to Electrolyte's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Step 3: Try to kill things that can't kill you. Step 4: Get dead (Oops!). Step 5: Proceed to step 2. -
I like the running vault attempt at 11:50 in the OP video. So close!

1.7.2 Opinion thread. All your opinions, good and bad, go here.

The infected AI is much more erratic, which is 100% what they need to remain a threat. They tend to lose aggro too easily now, and can't seem to hear me sprinting right behind them with several in tow occasionally. I have blasted many infected with the Colt and then shot the infected next to them without ever getting aggro. I really like the Hoppers that spot you from across town, creates a good sense of urgency without insta-leg-breaking (which does still happen thankfully). -
Joined a nearly full server about 20 minutes ago. Performance was significantly improved. Infected seem to be able to smell me now or something, aggro is much harder to avoid intended or not.
-
I have been able to join one server so far today without getting stuck on loading or waiting to create character. On that server I noticed a consistent performance drop, around 10-15 FPS. It did not change regardless of my location on the map.

The fellow with the hatchet does not enjoy being shot. Be wary of him.

Sniper rifles aren't intended to be balanced in DayZ from what I can tell. I only hear them when the sniper isn't aware of me, but I've been shot by many an inaudible sniper while trying to help people on the coast. It would be nice if there were real risks for sniping, but Rocket says DayZ is not going to be balanced (though he seems perfectly ok with preaching about exploits, go figure).

A new "Virus" is in game spreading to the forums

Seven-page vent thread. What did you learn today? -
Central DB one huge disadvantage
Electrolyte replied to JorisK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If DayZ is going the way of role playing or "Make DayZ your own game", I agree that it won't reach its full potential until server admins can have control over who joins and who doesn't and some form of server rules. The resources needed for policing the current 100K+ active players via the DB do not seem practical for a mod especially of this scope without a source of income. However, I see DayZ as a survival sim with an element of role playing born out of the environment shaping you with unexpected encounters under harsh conditions, the core of the mod for me personally. It will likely never be a true sim because of mod limitations, at least in Arma 2, but I would prefer the survival sim direction over role playing since that's what sold me on DayZ originally. -
I don't think you have to change anything to the lyrics for it to apply, although you could change "days" to "DayZ" for giggles. Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down Letting the days go by, water flowing underground Into the blue again, after the money's gone Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground It can apply to anything really, but the finer things in life do tend to go well together.

Game gets dull after fully geared (suggestions for Arma 3)
Electrolyte replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think you should be rewarded with a nuke, which strips you of all gear and prevents you from picking up any more. The only options you have are to run around until you die, or drop the bomb and kill everyone on Chernarus including yourself. Then we play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -
So you are bored and think the game needs something endgame or new...
Electrolyte replied to Survivor-Kyle's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wandered down to the coast to find a survivor to help yesterday. Instead I had to kill a bandit. So it goes. -
Don't forget morphine, you'll need that for walking in the woods every once in a while. And a flashlight if you want to play at night.

Looks like apocalypse is really starting to kick off here.

A new "Virus" is in game spreading to the forums
Electrolyte replied to OrLoK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
General social commentary on the internet might be novel to Arma vets, but don't expect much change in any large game community like DayZ's. Otherwise the mods would be preaching a lot more. -
rocket & team: When you fix disconnect exploits, do NOT announce it

Crawled all of the way from Elektro to Cherno
Electrolyte replied to Sterling (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You learn a lot more from a good crawl than wandering the countryside with tier 1 military loot. Good for you. Also, people don't usually understand sarcasm on the net. If you even mention exploits in your post plan for your thread to get spammed with junk posts that have nothing to do with the original topic until it is closed or worse. -

Tents - Proper procedure and general stability?
Electrolyte replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I usually place one expendable item into a new tent, save the tent, and then soon after relog on the server to see if the tent is eating loot. If it does I move the tent elsewhere and repeat, although I'm not certain that this makes any difference. Tents are no more stable than any other storage in the game that I'm aware of, but I've had far more luck with them than scavenging my own body post-death. All things are expected to be improved in the near future, but Rocket and team get to decide how near the near future is. -
Unless we get flags/effects for murder, this game will just be Deathmatch.
Electrolyte replied to PinkTaco24's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This sounds a bit gamey to me, although OP thought it out pretty thoroughly. I'd rather have people dressed to their own liking.
