For those who encounter hackers all the time
Electrolyte replied to mind_grenade's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I haven't played 1.7.2 enough to speak on it specifically, but before that I would see hackers at least once a day if not 3-4 times. I know of one server where at the same time every day a heli would mow the fields between Elektro and Cherno for 20-30 minutes. I would show up just to watch. -
Why Does Everyone Complain About Being Killed
Electrolyte replied to seemingepic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is it in a nutshell from my perspective. Players, primarily snipers, are used to create stress to compensate for weaknesses in AI and/or infected population limits - sure, you have to cut corners somewhere as a mod developer and I'm willing to accept this idea. However, a metagame has evolved and it seems to favor hoarding military loot and the stuff bored 14-year-olds enjoy, which is generally running around like idiots and blowing up everything in sight. Don't get me wrong, that is a great audience for anyone trying to make a dime in video games. But for a mod created to see if loot can be more meaningful than Skyrim's or to challenge people into accepting some sort of anti-game, it feels more and more like a bloated deathmatch experience as I continue to play it. -
Headshots Required To Kill Zeds
Electrolyte replied to I_Guts_I's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I used to only use the term "infected", but the in-game debug window clearly refers to them as "zombies". Either way I don't see any point in the crossbow if you can only kill with headshots, you'll at best down a couple of them and never get your bolts back. -
Stranded on a rooftop....

Jump! You will be rewarded with full blood and all zombies will disappear (with a small chance of a broken leg and five zombies fondling you while making eating noises). -
1.7.2 - How To Get Through a Day *Spoilers*
Electrolyte posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Step 1: Be a little crazy, but don't get dead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqakCa-MysE Step 2: Hoard and tell your friends about it. -
1.7.2 - How To Get Through a Day *Spoilers*
Electrolyte replied to Electrolyte's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Okay I think you are right in that you cannot slap people or point a gun at your own head as of 1.7.2, although I think both should absolutely be added to the mod in the future. Otherwise you can get crazy, you can hoard, you can hunt, and you can die on a ladder. Typing is overrated, and your response is very concise actually. -

Maybe I'm onto something then. Too many spoilers you think? -
New player perspective 1.7.2
Electrolyte replied to bennygold's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ is very much a sandbox right now. You can make the zombies more challenging if you want, people just aren't very creative and assume there is only 1 right way to play. Try making it through Cherno with just a crossbow and a sack of bolts, that can get interesting very quickly. -
You have to play for the moment to moment. The key for new players during alpha is to learn to accept your loss and move on, the quicker you get through that process the sooner you get back to enjoying DayZ. Report your losses if you please, but you'll find the more common bugs like this have already been reported via the search function.

1.7.2 has already started raising my kill count actually. Ammo permitting, I typically kill 2 or 3 infected as I run into the city. You'll be surprised at how many colt or lee kills you can get before taking aggro. They will respawn soon after and you obviously need an exit strategy before engaging, so don't screw around. So far this hasn't had any averse effects, though it would be wise to refrain from using this technique in the airfields or other key sniping fields.

This is an interesting thread. I once killed about 35 infected with the Lee while trapped on the roof of a mill in the middle of Cherno as a freshly spawned survivor, maybe alive for twenty minutes before that, and on a full server no less. I was originally trying to get into the hospital but picked up aggro and panicked. I managed to survive by using the remaining ~20 infected as meat shields from the sniper who was surprisingly good at killing the ones around me. I eventually got some loot from the hospital unharmed minus a broken arm and a couple of zombie slaps, and went on to get 200+ kills mostly with the Lee and Winchester.

I would suggest finding your own loot paths instead of adopting others', it's a much more organic way to learn the game and you'll probably develop your own way of navigating the map. As of 1.7.2 I'd say the basic needs for a new spawn are: 1) Hatchet - arm and reload and only fight infected when trapped. Hatchets are everywhere, do not neglect them. 2) Loot small buildings, even sheds, for food and drink and survival gear. 3) Get morphine and bandages - best place is behind hospitals or inside med tents in Cherno/Elektro. 4) Go inland and find barns with guns and stores with backpacks. The key is to remember that snipers shoot anyone on sight but inside cities you have a slightly better chance of surviving encounters with other players if you have a hatchet and don't run at them.

I feel ya. My friend is fortunately also gifted with the ability to find good loot, he found three DMR's in one 2-hour session yesterday. Hope you have another gift too!

Ya especially when they unannounced practice throwing grenades indoors, while you are indoors...

All I know is banana clips are the bees knees! -
I have a friend who gets mortally wounded, broken legs, or knocked unconscious on almost every first hit from an infected. Sometimes it's nice having him around for that reason, sometimes not.

Why is Barbwire Infront Of All the Big Places?
Electrolyte replied to cowdung's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yep, 95% of the time you will spawn in the exact same location. -
Why is Barbwire Infront Of All the Big Places?
Electrolyte replied to cowdung's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sadly the best way to counter this is to join the pack. Switch to another server, go inside the building you want to enter, and then switch back to the original server. This usually isn't worth the trouble though, just stay on the other server unless you really needed whatever was in the grief-ed building. -

Electrolyte replied to FrankDaTank1218 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So link a quote of Rocket saying that he is intentionally trying to ruin his mod. Until then, Rocket gets what he wants and you don't. Personally, I would go back to shooting that sweet AK I assume that is you holding in your avatar. -
Rocket's overall plan.
Electrolyte replied to FrankDaTank1218 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't think OP has a good understanding of giving criticism if you open your argument with suggesting that the creator is intentionally ruining his own mod. Expect people who like DayZ and Rocket to get defensive, that's the reason you made the post in the first place obviously. -

No replies...guess it's back to the drawing board. Why are guides so hard to write for DayZ? -

Very glitchy hardcore military sim = broken gaming experience Substitute "military" with "survival" = DayZ Difference being that there are no other online FPS survival sims, let alone free online FPS survival sims. There are plenty of military sims however, hopefully the funds from the DayZ hype will allow Arma 3 to be a much more polished military sim. -

I'm still trying to find these dreaded bear traps. Guess I should spend more time playing and less time posting. -
Most people are fighting for military loot, which takes up most of your inventory and results in limited ammo too precious to waste on infected. I generally hit 200+ zombie kills before dying, which speaks to the type of weaponry I usually carry.
