The map is too small to do helis and fixed wing aircraft justice. Zipping from one corner to another in less than five minutes. Dayz Altis would be able to make helicopter justice.

Weapons that degrade require far too much cleaning

They do. -
Full auto weapons have nothing to do with Cernarus atmosphere, nor survival lifestyle
stielhandgranate replied to lucianpin's topic in General Discussion
There are your words. On Chernarus: So a civil war, you know, one with guns like AKMs and AK-74s happened in Chernarus, with Russian and American involvement, with guns that are automatic, then a UN peace keeping effort, again, with guns in Chernarus. -

Looks like a stamped receiver, so AKM as AK-47s are milled. Also as robust as AK pattern rifles are they still need a bore brush and the gas piston to be cleared of carbon and contaminates. Chrome parts does not make it self cleaning, just less friction and easier cleaning. -

Agree. I've never seen an M16A2 or M4 be deadlined just by failing to clean it. We really need a second status for guns. Clean,Dirty,Very Dirty,Unserviceable Allow unserviceable guns to be repaired to "clean" condition with cleaning kits. Maybe allow rags to repair from very dirty to dirty. -

Really? That's as incorrect as saying a game that takes place in war torn East Ukraine has no need for automatic weapons. Why don't people read on the lore before assuming Chernarus was a peaceful utopia where crime and war was unheard of. -
60 shots with M4 without touching the magazine?
stielhandgranate replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
Vietnam era M16 rifles had many issues. Among them was the fact that early ammunition wasn't manufactured to proper specifications and led to stoppages, a misconception that it was "self cleaning" led to Americans not conducting proper maintenance, a non chrome barrel or chamber, magazine springs wearing out easily. Most of these issues were fixed with the adaptation of proper education, better internal parts and newer types of ammunition. Early AKMs were idiot proof, less parts, a gas system that was less prone to clogging, chrome parts. The only issue with AK rifles are the sights, which are prone to damage. Flash forward to today, M4 carbines and M16A2/A4 rifles have chrome barrels and chambers, unit level maintenance conducts annual gauging of all issued firearms and replaces worn out parts at time of inspection, soldiers are trained to replace their magazines often and good quality ammunition such as M855 are standard issue. I can fire my issued M4 for about seven magazines before experiencing real issues. With AKs, the best AKMs I fired were Russian Izhmash or Chinese builds. I've encountered several poor quality AKs from places like Eastern Europe or the middle east that are utter crap. Most issues being the parts aren't built to spec or the barrels aren't chromed. As far as neglecting both, it all depends, but you are more likely to find a M4 in better condition from a 1st world military than an AKM from a 3rd world backwater military. -
I think a better route would be to have bundeswehr equipment lined up at random areas. The Dayz devs can take the wrecked "Strider" Armored car and alter ito to make it look like the real life Fennik: Throw in some flecktarn,G3 variants, and a G36 and call it a day.

60 shots with M4 without touching the magazine?
stielhandgranate replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
Someone ether never fired an M4 or never conducted proper preventative maintenance. The devs really need to switch the magazine design to something like this: 60 round casket magazine, no need to make an animation for swapping jungle mags. -
The VP 70 would be a logical civilian weapon, and it's stock. Nice three round burst pistol and dated so it's IP wouldn't be an issue. As far as German Heliwrecks, the CH-53D has hardpoints that often carry M2s (M3s,GAU16s?) and would be a good pick up point for people trying to build technicals.

Yeah because the overbudged US military doesn't ever use non guns for simulating firearms in exercises ever ever. Also Germany still has military forces in Regional Command North and other locations of Afghanistan so referring to them in past tense is deceptive. Germany is still part of NATO, and their presence is not far fetched in the Chernarus civil war crisis and their zombie outbreak. Much more so than New Zealand.

Oh gee it's not like Germany is the 3rd largest expeditionary force in Afghanistan or anything. As for the G36 I'd like to see it. I believe there is a conversion kit to allow it to accept STANNAGs. Where could G36 rifles be found? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/219355-german-military-vehicle-lgs-fennek-an-easy-addition-to-sa/

MP5 least practical weapon in game?
stielhandgranate replied to Dagwood's topic in General Discussion
The issue is that the MP5 is a submachinegun and is less adaptable than a rifle or carbine. A way to make use of the MP5 is to make the MP5 more common and give it a "tier" so to speak as mid geared players could use it more often than holding out for an AKM or other common AK rifle. More people would stick to it than move on as the upkeep of finding accessories would be easier. Put MP5s and accessories as spawns on Humvee wrecks as it is logical that the former users of the humvees may have had them. Throw them in air traffic control towers and the upcoming civilian airport buildings as it would be logical to see them in the hands of a port authority security force. -
Semi-Automatic and Auto indicator.
stielhandgranate replied to CanadianBrooks's topic in Suggestions
This is a must. If they want to go full realism they can give us a "SAFE" settings for firearms. I am sick of having to go full auto with AK pattern rifles. -
I like this idea. Make the trade off you heat up faster.

This is a slight exaggeration. Small arms to a level IV plate will knock you down, crack ribs, cause severe bruising, but it's not going to rupture your organs. That's what the shockwave from an explosion does. You wear the body armor to survive gunshots to the chest. If it was as ineffective as you implied it wouldn't see common use as it does. From what I read up on, STSh-81 SPHERA helmets like the ones used in Metro 2033 can take are better beating than western counter parts like the MICH and ACH helmets. In this video we can see what they can take at close range: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLVv4RGC6kQ You bet your ass I would wear one of those if I was entering a place where I could get slotted for sport. As far as plate carriers: Not only does he get up after taking a rifle round to the chest, he remains mobile and can take cover.

ArmA 3 isn't complete. Tanks flip upside down when trying to cross over one half meter stone walls, the sights on the Holosight and DMS sights are corrupted unless you apply workarounds, wheeled vehicles wreck when running over a chicken wire fence, lets not forget that running 10 feet tires your character to the point he needs a five minute rest. ArmA 3 was abandoned and they tried to cash out with BS l;ike karts and helicopters.

Surplus Wehrmacht uniforms/helmets
stielhandgranate replied to stielhandgranate's topic in Suggestions
Selfish bump. Just started Metro 2033 and like the atmosphere of the Nazi and Red faction war in subway ruins. -
Suits from a Scifi game and cod aren't needed. What OP should want to see is Russian Maska Helmets http://www.rusmilitary.com/images/maska_helmet.jpg American IOTV accessories like shoulder guards and crouch panels that could be attached to the plate carrier via MOLLE loops http://www.scopeandlaser.com/files/mid/3626_0.jpg And something like the datamined Knee and elbow guards http://i1079.photobucket.com/albums/w512/Mullraugh/tactical_elbow_knee_pads_black_540_zps54c7adad.jpg Makeshift non standard protective suit that still allows for a choice of clothing underneath to suit personal taste and looks like something pieced together.

During the Soviet Afghan war suits like this were used but this and even the Advanced Bomb Suit (What American Police and military use for Bomb suits) aren't rated to resist gunshots. What can stop shrapnel and shockwave from harming the wearer won't stop gunshots like Call of Duty implies.

Server names with "don't join" "unstable server" "character reset" etc
stielhandgranate replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
You can keep your respect and I'll keep my AKM. I'm not the one paying 60 USD to loot farm. -
Server names with "don't join" "unstable server" "character reset" etc
stielhandgranate replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
I join these servers on purpose just to piss off the owners. Contrary to their names, they tend to have great unmolested loot locations. -
I like this. Allows for personalization and identifying purposes. Looks sharp compared to character who looks like a bag of ass with unbloused pant legs.

In the military, you get issued a bunch of pouches with certain uses. Some pouches make great additions to the plate carrier in game: Medical pouch Self explanatory. Maybe four slots for med items that can fit left or right of the mag pouches. Hydration system Also known as a cambelpak, some versions that can fit on bodyarmor and some come with straps so the bladder can be detached and used as small packpack. Perhaps the player sips from it automatically when their hydration level is about to drop to thirsty. A nice counterpart to this would be to allow the SMERSH to carry two canteens free as they can in real life. Combat Lifesaver Bag An item that can carry many medical supplies compared to a medical pouch, perhaps at the expense of a backpack. Knife pouch Self explanitory. Allow for knifes and Bayonets. Grenade pouch Self explanitory. Make it compete with space for the knife pouch. Perhaps allow it to carry simliar shaped objects like kiwis or oranges. Counter IED Device Something like the THOR, http://www.marcorsyscom.marines.mil/Portals/105/PMMC3/MC3PDF/3%201%20THOR%20III%20CREW%20FACT%20SHEET.pdf The item could jam command detonated exploves such as IEDs or other radio controled explosives when they become an element of the game. It would have the side effect of jamming radios, taking the back pack slot and needing to be recharged. Would compete for space with the CLS bag. Both would give groups "Jobs" and show outsiders what others are tasked to do in their group. Radiotelephone Something like the AN/PRC-117 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/PRC-117F Backpack slot again, has a scan feature that can pick up transmissions on multiple bandwiths. Needs a lot of power. Generates heat and weighs the operator down.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
stielhandgranate replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
More uniform types for sure. Perhaps medical vests like what EMTs wear that would allow a healthy amount of medical items. As for weapons, the MG3 and that FN FAL we were promised awhile back.
