Wow, what an insightful post, you sure showed us with your ad hominems. Also, if you want my credentials you can just ask instead of assuming I gathered my knowledge of firearms from youtube videos. This game is a hobby, if you don't like that people are compassionate about this hobby on the forum dedicated to it YOU should leave. I'm sure you can find better company. -

Come to think of it his gab at gun owners is pretty insulting. Its along the lines of "well they may not like it, but most people don't care anyway". Just add the ammo. You have 7.62x54R for Mosin Nagants and SVDs, and 7.62x51 for the Blaze 95 and what ever western battle rifles are in development. How game breaking will this be? "Oh no, I now have to look a bit harder for ammo". Boo hoo its a survival game. -

Most good games don't, but moving on there is no hardset law that more ammo types means more ammo spawns. Also picture this: Survivors now have to trade to use their bang-sticks or bluff and hold people up, or scavenge harder. -

It takes less effort to code in a weapon caliber than it does to code in what has to have been the worse compass interface possible. The fact is the game can be based on realism while allowing suspension of disbelief. What the pro caliber people aren't asking for is realistic tracer burnout,Match grade ammo or authentic maximum ordinate. Why can we have all blood types coded in but not have 7.62x54R and 5.45? All what we want is consistency. All 5.56x45 rifles can still use 5.56x45 rounds like their real world counterpart and all 7.62x54R rifles can do the same. What we don't want are Mosin Nagants and SVD rifles using 7.62x51 or AK-74s using 5.56x45. -

There is no such thing as 5.57, or 5.58. How about we have ammo that exists to complement the gun that uses it. Or we can go super easy baby mode and have shotguns,rilfes and pistols take the same generic ammo box and lets get rid of that nonsense with having to find a magazine for your magazine fed weapon. -

It seems pretty unclear if whether or not this is the intended goal of ammunition. Nonetheless, now in the alpha state is the time to whine or protest distastes with the games development. Also that is pretty disappointing about the VSS, as it also means no Groza or VAL. -

Thats not a "good scenario". You are implying that there is a round similar to .22 that is "2 nanometers too big". There is no such round. You are also implying I want several thousand ammo types that are not usable. This is not the argument. -

Was the DayZ mod "near impossible" with multiple weapons and ammo? Not really. Also games are meant to challenge you. Being challenged is a form of entertainment. If the dev chose his words better an said something along the lines of "At this stage of development we may add certain guns using already in place ammunition at the alpha state" I could agree, but his words could have been chosen better. Chris makes it sound that the end result will have very low ammo spawns and the devs are limiting ammo types for this reason, but adding more ammo types helps this as it will lower the chances of finding ammo you need (as the devs want). -

Well I'm sorry you disagree, but Dean Hall stated that DayZ was to be a game based in realism, so if that means you have to shift though a few more loot piles before you can run to the coast and kill fresh spawns wearing tee shirts and jeans than so be it. -

Really? Is it so much to ask for to code different types of ammunition? This isn't some crazy request that has never been done before in the history of video gaming. It makes no sense to add a level of detail such as blood types and heart attacks and try to go the lazy route of having most guns use the same ammo even if their real world counter parts don't. Even your sig that is a quote from Mr. Torchia reads: "gun shops in Russia and in Czech Republic and the massive variety of guns and ammo you can find there.". This game started as a mod from ArmA 2, a game which the devs went to great lengths add depth and realism in the firearms dept. It is very disappointing that the Devs want to try to take the Call of Duty route when it comes to firearms realism.- 588 replies

Devs: Stop being lazy, give us different types of ammunition

So I read this quote from the suggested weapons thread, allegedly from Chris Torchia: This isn't going to do. DayZ is supposed to cater to the type of players that WANT the level of detail. I think this dev is out of touch with the community. Now this isn't an argument that can be shut down with the old "it's only an alpha" counter argument as this is stated intent. Also Chris Torchia should do some research on firearms as 7.62x39,7.62x51, and 7.62x54R have very different characteristics. -

A good idea would be bringing in many examples of M240s/FN MAGs and M249s/FN MINIMIs from various nations and making the barrels,buttstocks,covers and receivers separate parts that can be mixed and matched to jury-rig a working example. -
No thanks. Adding another layer of coding will bog this already stressed game down. Also I could see cars that would normally have an automatic transmission being lumped in for simplicity.

Dropping a magazine in a panic COULD happen, but so can your belt becoming undone and you pants falling to your waist. Dropping magazines isn't such a common occurrence that it needs to be implemented in game, especially since you can practice to prevent doing such things.. -

They use the same ammo. M855 ball is the standard round used in most NATO 5.56 rifles including the M16/M4 and AUG/A3. Also all modern small arms fire high velocity rounds, not just the M4. Where are you getting your information from? I'm sorry to tell you it is incorrect. -

They are assault rifles, not assault weapons. Also I'm sure there will be better loot than AKMs and M4s that will be reserved for crashes and other bonuses. GPMGs, vehicle parts and night vision come to mind. -

Who fucking cares if someone tries to recover their stuff? How is this game breaking when it seems like an asspain anyway? Most of the stuff will be ruined from gunfire anyway. -

The AUG isn't "less powerful" than an M4. They use the same ammo (M193 ball for the AUG or M855 ball for the AUG/A3) -
The devs can the the Arma 3 hospital and build on that.
