    Reskin the Russian Calibers

BIS? Well the ArmA series and DayZ are not headed by the same lead dev. Chirs Torchira was hesitant to add in 7.62x39 because he didn't understand the differences between 7.62x51 and 7.62x39.

While I would agree with you, illiterate and dumb gamers is why the devs are hesitant to add more ammo types in game.

    Reskin the Russian Calibers

.308 may cause no ill effects on military weapons like the M24, which was chambered in .308 to begin with, or the Mk 17 which was designed more recently. On older 7.62 rifles like the L1A1/FAL or G3 this may be an issue and there are existing cases of civilian sporter versions of those weapons being damaged with .308.

    Reskin the Russian Calibers

http://www.303british.com/id36.html There is a slight difference, but it is significant enough to cause issues. If I was at my homestation, I would run headspace gauges on .308 and 7.62x51 rifles to try it out. Some of the older armorers in my shop warn me about the differences being akin to .223 and 5.56x45 but reversed with the civilian cartridge being non compatible with rifles rated for the military round when I purchased an M1A scout but this is anecdotal. Here are some images from the internet, but they seem accurate.

.308 runs hotter than 7.62x51 and can damage a rifle chambered in 7.62x51. Also Eastern European ammo is rarely made with brass casing while NATO/North American military ammo is always brass cased. I would help to make the models look different too, such as making NATO ammo line up in a row and COMBLOC ammo can be in a pile.

there is no reason not to do this. With this the whole "players who want to be spoonfed and are too lazy to read the ammo description won't understand" argument against adding in ammunition goes away.
  8. They need to make the current sub-machineguns and mags more common. I have secured three MP5s and no magazine, and never located a RAK or the mag for it. Funny that the RAK spawns at helicopters, seeing how Russian helicopter crews are equipped with AKS-74U carbines and not sub-machineguns.

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?

I remember in one pre-alpha devblog Dean Hall went off in a tangent about being able to open and close the compass lid, as if the viewers were really supposed to be impressed by that and put aside the very slow and past due alpha launch. The direction the team took went backwards from ArmA, even though many thought it would be the foundation. For example firearm ballistics being improved with MAGPUL stocks and the AK-74 not being implemented because they decided that too many calibers would confuse casual players and make ammunition too rare (while ignoring the contradictory intent of having weapons and their accouterments be a commodity) despite already completing the textures for the weapon, accessories and ammunition. There are doubts to if the map itself will be expanded, and leads me to wonder what was being developed besides a small amount of in game items and enterable buildings. Personally I would love to see one of the ArmA 2 lead Devs take charge, as ArmA 2 was a great experience and the idea of a survival horror game using the ArmA playstyle is what enticed me to the dayz mod. Dean Hall may be a nice person, but his skills as a game development leader leave a lot to be desired.

We also need that thought feed in the corner to give you messages like "It smells like rotten meat" or "I smell spent gun powder".

    People's thoughts on hip firing?

A trained soldier would be clearing out a building at the position of low ready with their primary weapon or with a pistol if his or her weapon was too awkward to keep at low ready. Depending on the distance,or if your adversary conducts a reaction drill, hip firing will lose out.

  13. Isee, sorry for the misinterpretation. Hail and well met.
  14. Whats wrong with STALKER? We need 9x39 in this game as well as the VSS/VAL/Groza.
  15. That is where range and size, rather than damage, comes into play. It is easier to clear a building with a carbine or a bullpup rather than a full length rifle, however it is easier to engage at a distance with a full length rifle than a carbine. The whole difference to "Damage" as far as injury to an individual and defeating armor isn't going to be great and an attempt to display such differences may lead into an over exaggeration. ArmA 2 portrayed the merits of each NATO weapon well, and the Devs of DayZ would be smart to follow it. Unfortunately I doubt deficiencies such as the L85's weight and non ambidexterity or the M4's need for additional preventive maintenance will ever be considered.

    Advanced Ballistic Model

That is something what I can look forward to. Mortars aren't known for accuracy and need large volume of fire to achieve effect. One crew will overheat their tube, a small group will burn out their ammo in short order. Airbases known for being sniper alley? Well now they're known for raining mortars. Really would love to see some sniper elite wannabe streamer get torn asunder by HE mortars.
  17. I don't like the sound of this. It sounds like some FPS style damage table for balance. A .357 rifle and a .357 pistol have considerable differences compared to a 5.56 rifle and a 5.56 carbine where the differences are minimal. For example an M16A2 and an M4 have the same fire control group, bolt carrier group, and barrel twist ratio, with a small difference in barrel length. A .357 rifle may have a considerably longer barrel than a pistol and have different cambering methods that may or may not bleed gas pressure during the firing phase of the cycle of operations and affect the round fired.

    Advanced Ballistic Model

Fuck yes. Player driven events like a mortar line firing into a city or player made base would be really welcome.
  19. I really don't think there is any type of equipment that could be defeated by a 5.56 round fired from an M16 while being able to withstand the same type of round from an M4. An M16 would be no better at defeating body armor or a vehicle than an M4. It would be more believable to add AP ammo like M995 than Rifles being better at penetrating vests and armor than Carbines.
  20. How are we going about this "Damage scale"? Taking three rounds to the chest of 5.56 is going to do comparable damage regardless of the weapon. Barrels effect range unless you are taking about having a barrel twist ratio that would cause the round to tumble and apply a different type of wound. Those rifles all have 1:7 or 1:9 twist ratios so there would be no tumble with M855 or M193. When I got out of basic to go to AIT and learned the differences between an M16A2 and an M4 carbine "Damage" was not one of them. When I learned how to perform Depot level maintenance on small arms as an armorer I was never briefed on damage differences with barrel length as barrel length affects range. Gas or piston operation does not make the round more or less deadly, nor does the fire control group.
  21. All those guns use M855 ball as a duty round and would have the same "Damage" IRL. The only differences would be range,ROF and recoil. Also list the AUG A3 as it uses STANAGs.

    Potental sawed off-able weapon: M79

Well thats the good part. If you use a 40mm grenade too close it won't detonate. Its a safety feature to prevent harm to the grenadier. It needs something like 12~15 rotations of the grenade in flight to prime. It will take a lot of effort to master a grenade launcher, practice that will turn off the COD crowd.
  23. With the consistent issues of coding zombies to the point where they are irreverent but the rising popularity of this game, has dayz succeeded as a world without law/anarchy simulator rather than a zombie survival game? As it stands the game is several groups of people picking fights with each other and loners trying to keep out of it or scavenge while avoiding others. Much of the gameplay and experience is like the movie/book The Road, rather than a zombie game/movie/comic. I'm not trying to put down the path the game has taken, but rather point out how interesting the game evolved into.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?

The lore is still in development, and a small amount of American involvement means a higher probability that any American uniforms will be articles in use with Special forces, like combat pants and Cyre helmets. It also helps that the devs won't need to scratch build such content and just alter the values of clothes from ArmA 3. The slight differences in appearances means Bohemia won't have to get permission to display Crye precision IP.
