One engine is state of the art (or was at it's release), the other is held together with tape and glue and is only being used because Bohemia owns the engine and doesn't have to pay licensing fees. Its like comparing a luxury car to a lemon. Both are costly to maintain for their owners, the difference is one is pleasant to use, look at, and show off. The other shows it's age,has a new problem show up once one is corrected and replacement would be preferred.

Why 100+ Man servers will be amazing
stielhandgranate replied to xploD's topic in General Discussion
Nowhere to hide bases. Nowhere to hide vehicles. Player pop will make overall item quantity low so more people simply killing others for the off chance they have something of worth in their clothes. Give us a bigger map and less uninspired cities and copy paste towns than I can see it working. Its a post apocalyptic world. You shouldn't be encountering others every five minutes. Also I imagine the cost for renting servers would be ridiculous. -

Air bases. JP-8 does not spoil at the same rate as petrol. -
I'm not saying disable fall damage from 20 feet from a realism standpoint, but a temporary immunity from 20 feet falls mean I am no longer suffering from broken legs when walking up the stairs at the two story military building or farm house due to a server pathing error. At least until time can be devoted to fixing what ever error causes you to break legs when walking up stairs and not "falling".
-
The devs should just disable fall damage from about 20 feet until they can devote enough time for it. Broke several boots and pants for nothing and with the new broke "bone" health that is unreplenishable the game is more of a mess than usual.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I'd settle for a standard saiga 12. It shares the accessories with other AK pattern weapons like the AKM,AK-101,AKS-74u,and AK-74m, is a common civilian weapon despite it's menacing military look and is distinct from other shotguns as it is detachable box magazine fed and semi automatic.

Its a game that takes place after a disease pandemic hits a third world country during a bloody civil war involving two super powers. While I agree we don't need MBTs and helicopters, light military vehicles with distinct weaknesses should be implemented. They also have constructive uses. Groups equipped with armored transports can ferry others to safety though certain hot zones for a fee or out of good intent. Something like this has it's clear flaws and need for maintenance, while being geologically correct: http://www.mortarinvestments.eu/products/armoured-vehicles-4/ot-810-90#currency=USD Something like this can protect you in flat lands, but could be lost or destroyed easily in urban or mountainous terrain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BTR-40 Then you have something like this, where it's offensive role can be gutted, or left with a manned turret at the cost of having to feed it new parts to replace worn down ones. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oshkosh_M-ATV -

Thats cute, next time I'll tell my NCOIC I choose not to follow his order to guard a POL dump at a combat outpost because I don't want to get wet. -

Unless the weapons in dayz have been stripped of parkerization/bluing, this is a non issue. "Badly maintained" in it's common usage usually refers to lack of preventive maintenance, not direct sabotage. Why would firearms in recent use be found absent of such a common and reliant practice? I've seen fobbit blaster 9000 M16A2s that were conversions with Armalite receiver stamps that still maintain their rust proofing despite decades of misuse. -

Okay, what do you want in game? BTR 40-Armored, but open topped. Makes it a nightmare to go though towns when people held up in multistory buildings can shoot into your crew compartment. Humvee- Soft, unarmored, poor heating, poor a/c,bad mileage. Some have turret rings. MATV- Armored, RPG nets can defeat shoulder fired anti tank weapons, may come with a boomerang III so it can tell you what direction gunfire is coming from, turret rung. Maintenance whore to the max, have to idle before turning over or risk damaging the tires. Handles like a school bus, Easy to tip over, only seats five. OT-810- Halftrack, opentopped, can carry a lot of people and goods, Czech, very old. Sold to civilians. -

Well then you should know small arms don't rust over if left in the rain for a few hours unless they are zip guns made from scrap. Unless you spent your professional time behind a desk, quoting regs when someone walks by with their hand in their pocket. -
that tube looks like it can hold six shells. The MP133 restricted to four shells should have the tube stop at the cocking handle. Someone inform the devs so they can modify it to six shells. http://world.guns.ru/shotgun/rus/mp-133-e.html

So your total lack of experience with firearms and unbiased assumptions vs my experience of using weapons in extreme conditions. Neat. Weapons aren't built from the same cheap tin you see on commercial goods found at a big box store. -

Have some examples of weapons that are operational despite less than thankful owners or abandonment Have a video of a T-34 in a marsh running after being recovered: Now the notion that such items will rust within hours of rain water is a uneducated exaggeration. -

And you know the guns in dayZ are badly maintained because that was your intent as a dayz developer. -

False. I've had to wait in the rain with an M4 for 14 hours and do exercises at Fort Richardson Alaska in -32 weather and never had the rust issues you are describing. Treated metals do not rust in hours. -

Yeah your character in DayZ was a total nerd with no talents that lucked his way into surviving the total downfall of society with a some jeans and a flashlight. Where do you get the idea that firearms rust after a few weeks in the field? -
Vests should be repairable with duct tape. I've seen people in Afghanistan who found ways to destroy their IOTV vest and have to resort to using green duct tape to make their kit wearable.

DSHKs and M2s are fine. Mk 19s are total maintenance whores. Parts need to be replaced on them every six months, even when in extended storage. -

Mk 19s are a bitch to maintain in real life, I'd say settle with M2s. -
I don't think "Average civilians" could set up an IV,install a new hand guard Assembly on an M4 or AK pattern weapon, or mend clothing to the skill they do in game. Lets not forget soon our personas will be maintaining vehicle engines and piloting aircraft.

Chris T made a statement about not wanting to "Bloat" the rate of ammo spawns and the AK-74 would be chambered in 5.56, if at all and was very hesitant to have two types of 7.62 (7.62x52 and 7.62x39) ammo in game because casuals were too lazy to read the in game item description. There was a huge upset on the forums and other dayz discussion outlets and it seems the Dev team changed their opinion of the matter.

None of this small map, can go anywhere in less than one hour bullshit. We need Altis. Its big enough that it would take an entire day to reach all the points of interests on foot and ground vehicles can't cover everywhere important without running out of gas at least once. You have more than three clumps of undeveloped land not used as a path to loot points to create player stashes and hide your vehicles. Trying to go to one big city or area on the other side of the map means bringing several supplies or risk dying of dehydration/starvation. Add some suspension bridges to the small island chains, bring in more buildings, remove or modify the future tech bullshit military buildings and you have a suitable dayz experience.
