Good ideas OP I agree that pvp is a needed part of the game because it adds the extra danger element. However, pvp needs to work hand in hand with folk who want to simply survive with humanity. My suggestions are similar to yours.... At the begining of the game, players select 'Good guy' or 'Bad guy' An appropriate skin is then assigned for all to see. If a Good guy then starts murdering ( even accidental and self defense ), an insanity aspect kicks in - hallucinations, shakes, etc. This can be reduced by periods of peaceful living, or dealt with by a dependency on drugs or alcohol. This should discourage mindless killing. Bad guys are simply avoidable because of an obvious skin that make them stand out as untrustworthy guys. However, if a bad guys starts peaceful life style - he starts turning pink to highlight his decent into homosexuality. Also, intelligent / dynamic spawning - bullets are extremely aware and spawn only when necessary to avoid stock piling.

Today I was in a town in the north. A guy was in the supermarket trying to attract my attention by shooting his gun, he must of known someone was about. I got close to the supermarket and hailed friendly a few times. So I sneaked around the back way and saw him facing the main shop door gun drawn. So I shot him - my first murder. I hated it. I would of much preferred it if he answered my hails and we made friends and teamed up. This is what I enjoy about real life and I enjoy it game worlds too, especially one that lends itself to such an interesting and unique scenario.

Give yourself an objective. I have been playing a Guardian Angel role. I play solo and keep my head low, but if I see someone in trouble, I'll help them as best I can but keeping my distance.

I am lost to why people purchase a military fps game ( Arma2 ) then download a alpha status buggy zombie survival mod ( DayZ ) then try and play a military fps game on it. Utter madness. JUST PLAY ARMA 2!!!!!!

Embrace the running. I do. The moment I start I just run and don't give a damned who follows because a) you are able to run as fast as them, and b) gun fire snipers and bandits tends to miss and waste bullets if you're running. I head for the nearest inland barn, find a hatchet and take out the zombies. Within 5 minutes of spawn I have the basics I need to survive. So just run. The crawling around is arse. One last thing - whilst starting the game weaponless adds a dramatic element to the game, i do feel a well timed 'shove' option should be available. Just to be able to push them away or to the floor when your back is against the wall.

DayZ Xpadder 1.0 [Controller Support]
grrinc replied to blackbelt27's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If your a pvp type player ( in which case, just 'effin' play Arma II ) - then a mouse and keyboard arrangement would best. If like me, you prefer surviving and lone wolfing, then the controller is fantastic. Playing in my recliner with the pc hooked up to my tv is awesome. And the few times I have engaged in gunfights, I won - so it ain't that bad. -
Hello chaps Just got my leg broken by a rather unpleasant zombie type fellow. Fortunately, I had sufficient provisions to get my health back up except for morphine. So now I am basically crawling around up in the Northern part of the map. Is it worth it? I have survived many days and I'm kind of proud of how I have been a good citizen and helped other on the road to recovery. But now I am encountering a lot of gun battles. Any tips or stories of hope?

Hi Guys and Gals Today, i have had problems with the graphics 'shaking'. I have tried a few different servers and it has happened on them all. Basically it looks as though my character is vibrating around. When I switch to 3P mode, the graphics are fine and steady as they should be, but 2 circular icons in the center of the screen appears, with one of them shaking around too. All my health settings are top marks, and I am not heavily burdened. Any clues? Only happened today when I fired up - it was fine last night.
-
Well what do you know? It was pain killers after all. Thanks.
-
Thank you for replying. Head bob is already turned down, and I am in full health. It is a an erratic shaking that only started when I logged on today - when i logged off last night, everything was absolutely fine. I'll try pain killers anyway, just to see. But i didn't need them last night. Any other suggestions?

OP - I see your frustration. At least a simple ability to 'shove' a zombie would be nice. I hated it too. But...... when you do finally get a few bits and pieces up together, boy do you take care and enjoy the game more. I have played for 2 days and pretty much only got by with a hatchet and stealth - I couldnt find a gun for love nor money. But survive I did and have only interacted with other players by coming to their rescue when being attacked by zombies. Guns from the start just promote 'yee-haw'-ism and leads to delusions of playing cod. Embrace it.
-
But the game is ever evolving is it not? Alpha and all that? Whilst I am enjoying it 'as it is' - I don't think it will stay this way for too long for any of us. But anyway, it looks as though this Rocket fellow has already considered classes, skills, perks, etc So I guess he knows what he is talking about. T'was only myself thinking out aloud. :)

I see your points racecar - but going by the complaints on these forums, the way this game has turned into a PvP fest is obviously a concern. I like lone wolf style playing so yeah I agree, forcing teams is a no no. But having skill sets is like real life is it not? Being good at one thing, but not so good at another is pretty much true to life. This could be reflected in the game. Your last statement - players are to be the main threat - is this your opinion or is this the intention of the mod designer? Also, thanks for replying.

Seems a bit like 'exploiting' to me. I think bullets need to spawn depending on how many are being 'held' and how many players and zombies are alive. If players are stock piling, different items re spawn. Same with food - if there is an excess of stored food, the spawns should adjust accordingly.

I ran across a field and saw someone coming straight at me. I dived to the floor and hailed friendly. He did the same, and after 5 ridiculous minutes, we both got up and carried on our journey walking backwards and facing each other with guns at the ready. It turns out we were both as good as our word. I really should of told him that he was heading towards some merciless bandits though - they were who I was running from.
-
Fair enough - but it is already Battlefield in many respect. Zombies are dispatched with ease once you have the basic easy to find arms. By having classes that promote survival - hunter gatherers, construction workers, mechanics, etc - it could remove the total military angle that this game seems to have adopted.
-
Why do you say that? I'd be interested to know. I thought it was still in Alpha.
-
I agree with above post. The Youtube clips I watched about this game are a hell of a lot different than what the game actually is. Basically we have turned an epic zombie survival game into Call Of Duty. Next folk will want the zombies removed because it is ruining the fun. I look forward to seeing just how serious the developers are about their vision. Because this game has gone way off path IMO.

I am looking through most of the forums, and to be honest, I am unsure as to why DayZ has so many different ways of installing. I am now unsure if my installation is even correct now!! Can anyone help? I purchased ARMA2 CO through steam and waited ( a day!! ) for it to download and install. I played both Arma2 and OA as an admin just to get the updates etc. I then installed Six Launcher of which I opened and played as an admin. So far so good. I have been playing games ok I guess. I then downloaded Six updater. After many wtf moments and clicking update buttons, it appears that I have updated other things too but cant be sure what. But I am playing DayZ with no bugs or obvious side effects. Have I missed anything out here? Thanks

Nerf the rifles, add realistic physics into it. Allowing for the wind and trajectory etc. If they want to kill like a real sniper, let them spend ages developing skills like a real sniper.
-
Thanks!!! It is working fine then.

Hi guys - a noob here. I'm still really trying to love this game, but it makes me so freakin' mad!! Anyway, after a dozen or so attempts, I have taken to just start running everywhere. The sneaking around at the beginning is not worth it, the game is so random that I feel sneaking around is delaying the inevitable, death seems to come out of events that are beyond ones control. The last few games I just ran and ran from the beginning. I out ran zombies and I out ran bandits. Then I finally found some booty and was able to turn round and fight. Hours were saved. So that's my advice - run like you have never ran before. Also, I was led to believe that flies buzzing around indicate a dead body and possible loot. Well I hear the flies all the time, but I never see anything. Bug?
-
Thanks for the advice guys. But like I said, I get quicker results by charging to were I need to go from the off. It works for me. Once I get a few items, I revert back to stealth mode because I have more to protect. But up until that point, I find no fun in crawling around. As I get to understand the maps more, I guess I can play a more stealthy game.
-
I have played over 5 hours of this game and have yet to find one gun or anything useful whilst sneaking around. I run into a zombie or other player and killed. I find crawling through fields and villages for hours way to boring now even though it seemed exciting at first. It would help if we were equipped with the ability to at least deal with one persistent zombie from the beginning. A stick that breaks or the ability to time a shove? Running is the way I get a quick result, but it's a shame because it ruins the spirit of the game.

Hi guys How can I keep the graphics from fading in and out of contrast? It appears that the game operates like auto exposure on a camera. And the same with bloom, how does one turn it off? it is a horrible effect. Plus - is 20 fps an average? I find the graphics to be quite smooth in general and stutter free, but fraps displays an average of 20 fps. This seems odd considering 60 is seen as desirable. Also, excuse my noobness. Thanks
