  1. @Drunkpunk082: Glad to see someone running a vanilla server, returning to DayZ's roots. If all goes well, my self and my partner will definitely be joining as regulars under the names "ZombieX" and "ZombieG", so you know we're not hackers. We're also not always KoS, so if you're into any more joining your group, we'd be up for it. We're older gamers ourselves (late 30's) so it's nice to see an actual adult running a server like this, taking care of bugs and dealing with asshat hackers. Keep it up!

    Acceptable age to play?

Firstly, upon reading the phrase "age play", the content of your post was not the first thing I thought of, and thought, "What the fuck?!". Secondly, I voted for "adults only", though many adults can be as immature as the younger generation, since they've been alive longer for the psychological dysfunction to settle-in and take hold. I've come across more "adults" in online games, with their over-sensitivity, hang-ups and generally immature attitudes than I care to count. I've also come across twenty-somethings who were more mature, respectful and real as people than others twice their age. It's a crap-shoot, really.
  3. Well said, couldn't have said it better. Nice to have the option to just fuck around after being immersed in countless hours of tense DayZ-edness.
  4. QFT. I've put countless hours into DayZ, but eventually stopped a few months back and am waiting for the standalone, hackers being the predominant reason.
  5. Agreed. Aside from obviously needing a serious "upgrade" in appearance, they need to seriously be slowed down. Even if it means slowing down player running speed to compensate and even things out, in case they can catch you at all. Or, better yet, just slow them down but add more, which I feel needs to be done anyway, and would be the perfect match.
  6. I've seen people stating they're not seeing any servers at all the last two days, and I've had the same problem in-game. Server issues, obviously. However, after the last beta update, the in-game server list AND options in ArmA are completely missing for me, including the "Filter" and "Refresh" buttons... just gone, even when the servers have been up. Anyone else completely missing the in-game server list as well as the buttons? It's one thing for the server list to be empty, but to be missing buttons from the actual HUD is a different story, especially when the servers are up. A friend of mine says he's not having the same problem, so it's obviously not happening to everyone. Last night, when the servers came back up, they were listed in SixLauncher, but my in-game server list was still empty and options missing from the HUD.

    Antibiotics & Zombie Detection

Thank for the info! Glad they got on a fix for it so quickly. As for antibiotics, no idea. If you're serious, PM me and let me know where. I'll be with three other people but we wont shoot anyone if we "know" their friendly.
  8. Completely unrelated issues, but I've questions regarding both: Antibiotics How likely is it to find antibiotics in a hospital somewhere currently? Any more of a chance than before 1.7.2? Don't know whether to bother keep looking (I'm infected, obviously) or just whack my character, have a friend guard my body and come back for my stuff. Zombie Detection First two days of the last update, everything seemed relatively the same, so I didn't say anything. But as of last night, me and a few buds noticed the zombie detection is out of $%&!ing control, ha ha. Coming from around houses that are across the street or from the opposite sides of buildings, when we've not made a single damn noise. Any plans on a hotfix for the zombie's detection? It definitely needs a serious tweak, as it doesn't even make sense now at this point. As long as you're slow-and-low, they wouldn't detect you even from 20ft away. Now, they'll drop down on you like you're a stinking rotting carcass that can be smelled from two miles out, lol Alright, thanks for any info.
  9. Ha ha, I've said the same thing about zombies, but more in reference to when one gets aggro'd, others from a far distance who don't even see/hear you do as well... as if they have some psychic link. Weird, though, because I've not noticed them being aggro'd more since 1.7.2 and I was just at the NW airfield where it's just crawling (no pun intended) with zeds. I stay prone, I can still get within 20 feet of 'em. If I stay crouched and move slow, which I just did through all the towns to get there and the buildings at the airfield, they don't notice me. I'll be playing tonight and will test again, but I even took vid of me at the airfiled, dangerously close to zombies, and the only incident I had was two zombies coming from around the wall immediately, but nothing "strange" after that, and I was close to some of the bastards. Also, supposedly their hearing through walls has been cut by 50% as of the last patch, but I'm sure there's still times when aggro, like everything else, isn't accurate and gets buggy. I'll have to see what happens tonight.
  10. I've seen no difference in zombie behavior or detection. If you're careful and stealthy, as you're supposed to be, you can still lay prone twenty feet from one and not have it notice you. As long as you stay crouched when walking and relatively out of their line-of-sight, again, still fine. Their detection radius/abilities and speed still do just generally need to be tweaked, but I've not noticed any real major differences in 1.7.2 as of yet. Even before that, if you were outnumbered 10-1, you've got to run until you lose a few, lose 'em in a building somewhere (run through, they lose line-of-sight), and sometimes have just a couple of seconds to turn and fire-off a round or two if you're quick with good aim. The zig-zagging needs to be changed, but it's still all basically the same, as far as I can tell.

    First impression: This sucks.

    QFT, good response.

    First impression: This sucks.

Check your 3D resolution setting in the visuals. Even if you have everything maxed, if it's not set to the proper res, things will look blurry. I found that one out myself. Odd, but there it is... As others have said: it's in alpha. Thirdly, there's a lot more to the game than a lot of singular-minded people seem to understand... still... if people aren't spoon-fed goals and told what to do, it's as if far too many people cant think for themslves. The game is about survival, and it's not actually "minimalistic"; there's a lot to it in terms of the mechanics. Having to/being able to loot, eat and drink (an accurate mechanic; the more you run, the faster/more you have to eat and drink), being able to get infected, many different weapons, intensely stealthy but also some great action if you're quick and know what you're doing, and the use of everything from matches and wood to start campfires in order to cook meat, which you get by obtaining a hunting knife to gut animals, the use of medical supplies you find such as morphine, blood bags and bandages... ...and keeping yourself alive. "Just" staying away from zombies? It's all part of using stealth, or balls-out firefights if you're quick enough and set-up for it... but, boring? Is that statement serious? Man, the tension and atmosphere in the game are intense. Zombies cause serious damage, and you also have other players to worry about, just as in a real-life scenario. You're constantly having to change positions, decide how to approach an objective, such as moving your way through a town filled with zeds, possibly players as well, and how you're going to snag the loot there-in to survive. Excellent music/ambiance in the background, and the lighting and day/night cycles add to the mood. Yes, there's a bunch of issues right now... but alpha is alpha, beta is beta... what do you expect? You have to "make your own fun" in an open world, decide how you're going to survive and fight (and sneak) hard to do it. It's not Call of Duty, man. Do you team-up with someone? Will you get sniped out in a field or aggro zombies that are around the corner from a building you're attempting to enter? Will you get whacked by another player when you're walking through a town or building where they're hiding, and/or eaten by the rotting flesh-bags roaming around? Will you find enough food and drink to survive to take with you on your trek around the world? Will you find enough ammo to protect yourself? When should you/should you not fire-off a shot? Or take the chance of looting a town? There's also vehicles, though it can be hard to get one in working order; once in a while you'll find one that already is, however, but don't count on it, so there's vehicle parts you can hunt for. It's a game for people who love stealth and tactics, both in terms of tactical movement and planning, even in terms of eating, drinking, where/when to find/use food, what items are most important to stock up on, and there's stil plenty of shooting, if you've enough ammo to go that route. Most people don't like the open PvP aspect, but, that just adds to the realism. For those who are into a game with more depth, we'll keep coming back, even if annoyed that some jamook sniped you from a treeline or tower, or you accidentally got swarmed by zeds and ended up becoming zombie meat. But, if you don't "get it", then it's obviously not your thing... but how many times does this "game" (mod) have to be explained? People need to check into things more before they get into it, if they're unsure as to what it's "all about". If you don't enjoy it, then don't play it, no one is forcing you to. If you do want to play it, try to hook-up with/make some friends, as going it alone is far tougher. Fun as hell when you can pull it off, but can be very difficult.

Lookin for friends to game with

If any of you are seriously looking for a small, tight-knit community to get together with, drop me a line. It's just a private small multi-gaming community, not a full-blown "clan", open to actual adults who are mature, understand teamwork but also that gaming is about having fun. We're adults in terms of age and maturity, but also in terms of using/not being offended by "foul language" etc., but we look for people we can actually get know now, not just some faceless community. Keep that in mind. We use a private Vent server, we play regularly during the evenings/nights US MST. There's a few of us playing relatively regularly, and we'd be more than glad to help out anyone who might be interested in joining us. FYI: your location/ping makes no difference in Day Z; there are no latency issues. I play on EU servers all the time and it runs smooth as butter. Only difference is server time (day/night) and we'll only play on servers that are running daytime cycles.
  14. Definitely glad to see some responses already, and from mature people looking for the same things. Just a reminder: Certainly, I/we can be "rowdy", but we reserve that for the right crowd. We're VERY big on respect and maturity, though we want to be with people who want to have fun and enjoy the experiences in-game, and would never insult anyone intentionally... unless they were asking for it. ;) I'm not expecting or requiring that anyone use mics either, if they're not comfortable, or cant because the kids are asleep. I know what that's like... real life responsibilities... so group chat is fine in-game... except when running from zombies, in which case typing is out of the question, haha. Teamwork and being sociable with mature people is what I'm/we're looking for, though if you "bust chops" a bit and just have fun, that's perfectly fine. I'm Sicilian Italian originally from the East Coast, I grew up in the city in a real "old world" family, so I know both being respectful, trustworthy and having a mouth that would make Lucifer himself blush. ;) I do have my own little "clan" these days, of sorts, and have a site w/ forums etc., make high-quality vids of just insane, fun gameplay etc., but I'm not promoting it, just mentioning it, in case anyone really wants to start a community. Yeah, see my edit above... That's definitely the "goal" of what I'm/we're looking for... to thrive, not just survive. If we get a good group of people together, that should be possible, and at least a blast trying. ;) Yeah, as I've mentioned, I do have my own private Vent server that everyone who wants to join us can use. I don't want a group of 50 people, just a few mature, dedicated and fun people with the same goals of thriving in the world and having a blast trying!
  15. What's up, all! I only just started playing Day Z two days ago, and personally feel that, certain bugs and needed tweaks aside, it's #$*!ing fantastic! So, firstly, I'd like to say I like and respect what I've seen of the community around here for the most part, and have great respect for the mod and the man behind it... hope he continues to make it all it can be! I'm/we're looking for other trustworthy, mature (but rowdy is fine) people to group-up with, or to join my own little "clan" I have for other games, and I've one other person with me, though her schedule is a little different. Yes, "her", so be $#&!ing respectful, hear me!? ;) Seriously... if you're a punk or don't know how to have tact (no racism, sexism etc) even if being rowdy (we don't care about foul language), then you're not who we're looking for. If there are other females in the community, you're free to join us. I'm 37, life-long gamer, (she is 33, experienced in FPS), I'm very experienced in tactical FPS (though I game for fun; no more competition) based in Arizona, US (-7), actually have my own Vent server if we want to use it. We stand by "our own" and are about teamwork and enjoying ourselves, working together to make it more enjoyable. Anyone who's new and/or looking for other mature but fun people to play with regularly, drop me a line! I'll give you my name, we'll set something up, and hopefully get something going. We'd like to try to get far enough to build-up our own little "keep" somewhere, vehicles, defend it, but rebuild if we have to at any point. We play on Normal servers, nothing "hardcore"... mod is already hardcore enough. ;) We've been playing on TX servers thus far; great servers, but will switch to what ever works, or vice-versa. Absolutely the exact type of game I've been waiting for that's done right, being truly survival horror, excellent atmosphere, love the mechanics and has run perfectly thus far. The only problems I've had thus far are things that have already been mentioned elsewhere... backpacks disappearing if you swim, night is extremely dark (though I like playing at night as well), occasionally the detection radius of zombies seems a little large, though it's not always a problem if you're careful... but it's still been a $@*!ing blast to play! I/we absolutely LOVE this style of game (i.e. survival horror) which this Alpha already does better than most other games in the style of supposed "survival horror", IMO. Just wish you could actually barricade doors etc. Who knows, maybe that will be added some time down the line... some welding, or boarding up doors etc. That would flesh it out and make it virtually perfect. Haven't run into any player bandits yet, and still learning a few things I've not yet had the chance to do (vehicles, barricades), but I've got it down for the most part already. Keep up the excellent work! I see myself spending a lot of time in Day Z, as long as things continue to run smooth and the community continues to grow and get even better.
