    Do you play DayZ with your kids?

    Even though it's something the devs don't like to see, try playing on a private server that has its own hive - there you got your 2nd character. (DayZ Sanctuary...)

    And DayZ hasn't got all it's features implemented yet, nor is everything definite for what's already ingame. Which should be the case for a beta... Kinda ignorant to think you're so much cleverer than the developer. Anyway, it's just a name for it being in testing phase, so be happy about you noticing it is a beta, now you can pwn everything. Congrats.
  3. As ybm said, for this case manpower will be crucial. There can be some ghosters that try to loot this city, but if we are enough in numbers and well organised, it would be possible. Neat idea, it should be tried. It'll be a refreshing task at least, where blood will be shed. We mustn't live in constant fear of cheaters, and if such an event worked, it'd be a direct slap in their face. Don't forget to provide a ts-server + some kind of registration to minimise the infiltration rate.

    Usage of humanity when dogs are implemented

    Guess all this stuff will come up and be tested in near future, so let's see. It would be awesome if it enables you to trace players, hide from them or find new group members. But I think it will become a bit messy when you're crawling into cities, right through zeds. There should be found a way they won't attract them, like leaving them behind "safe" in the next forest, or anything. Seems like I could forget to get some feedback on my original idea...

    Rocket said you should be able to train your dog. So show him once how to kill a survivor and he might be able to do it by himself, after that. Pretty similar to what rocket said about hunting animals with dogs. Anyways, that's not really part of this topic, it's just how to use the humanity in a meaningful way and not dogs in general.

    Couple of Questions

    1) You're right, that was a hacker. For me that didn't happen up to now, but I'm playing only on european servers, i can't really tell for US servers. 2 + 3) Normally cars won't spawn in a working condition. so there's a good chance you were trolling someone, or he just gave up his car. And the saving thingy is for your loot. You can put it in a car, then save. This will secure your loot will still be in this car after a server restart. Same goes for tents. 4) You're correct there. The admin can set the time zone for his server. Though i don't know what this bright glow should be, 5) There once was, and whilst logging in you can still do this, at least on some servers. It's being glitchy after all. This function was removed due to spamming and flaming, and to make the game a bit more realistic, I think. Hope I could help you out
  12. Hey fellows, I was wondering how you would think about an option to leave traces or notes in the game, visible to other players. Just imagine you got a colour spray to mark a certain way for your friends, or you could put up a trap for bandits. Another nice thing would be to leave notes, so survivors would be able to interact much more - like leaving a note in a house you just looted through, telling where you want to go, or leaving tips for beginners, or... Well, just let your imagination play. Hope we will get some interesting opinions here about that, it is just something that came across my mind recently, and i didn't find any thread that lead towards this.
  13. Especially the traps sound interesting to me. Most of these things should be tested in game, at least for a short time. Since there are plans on enlarging the max player number on a server to 200, just imagine what impact on the server it'd have if hundred people, more or less senselessly, begin to use so much more things. On top of that, the housing system should be implemented first, and then we gotta see if all those fortification methods are still needed.

    How do i show my position on my map?

    This blue circle will only show up on certain servers, normally it's turned off. It isn't really realistic to have a card that shows your position... You can see coordinates on the map, which can be compared to the coordinates on your gps.

    there you go... I think your key-system idea isn't realizable. All these buildings are basically in arma 2 - you would have to design a whole new lot. And I guess this would also lead to a loss of performance since it stresses the server way more if you have some hundreds of new accesable houses. Your idea about poisoning might be an interesting feature for the future though.But at the right time, when the game has reached a certain level of complexity. Right now it would just end in poisoning every food beacause fuck you or pony. You need some social structures before poison could be used intelligently.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

    All these people complaining here... It's as if 0,01% get it in their head that this is an alpha and throughoutly in a stage of testing and trying some things out. Live with the sandbox model - that's just how it is if you want to play together, you gotta run. Or "simply" stay alive. Learn to play this game properly, i.e. I'm asking myself how you can break your leg in a forest with nothing around, if you aren't glitching unluckily... It seems to me, while reading through the forum, that a terribly large part of players isn't thinking at all, in game as well as out of the game. And sadly they don't see the immense potential this game holds. So just stick with it and post the problems you got in a calm manner into the appropriate topic, using search function. Just let rocket work on his mod as he thinks. He cares pretty damn much about the community (and impressively hasn't gone mad yet) and tries to solve the problems with the mod in a very reasonable way. I think he is leading this project into the right direction, can't wait to experience the features that are planned. After fixing the major bugs that are existing, of course... Keep up the great work

    A proposal to fellow medics

    Sure it's hard, but eventually it'll come up. The main problem is that all these groups aiming to help others are acting seperately, and that most people lack experience in how to set up something like that. And there's the problem to find enough trustworthy people, of course. You'll just have to keep trying and evolving. Also, the planned updates like housing will make it easier to organize a whole lot, I believe. I like the idea, also would like to join that, but I don't got the necessary references yet... Anyway, how much time do you think you gonna need for setting it up on a server that it's basically working? Based on what resources you have so far. And I guess you won't name the server before that, right?

    That's the main problem I guess, finding a way for it to minimize resources. I have to admit that I can't estimate how much such notes/marks would stress a server, but I think this should be possible if the spawning chance of the related loot is kept low/balanced since it's also possible for a thousand zeds to spawn. I just think this would improve the organisation between players through opening a whole lot of new possibilities to communicate. This way it would be much easier to create an organisated structure of players on a server. And thanks for your beans/likes. (y)

    Thanks for that, just read some topics about it now. But still the idea of using colour spray or something similar to mark an area is kinda missing, and I think that would be a great way to lead someone in a certain direction, especially if the one to be lead uses a vehicle, or even a helicopter. These marks would vanish due to heavy rain, or at the server restart for marks within buildings and such. It also might be interesting to implement a kinda transparent colour that only glows in the dark.
