  1. Everyone's idea of fun is different. Just because you find it fun to try and rob someone and risk being shot, I find it more fun to survive how I want to survive. So if shooting gets me the loot easier, then i'll shoot. If I don't want to shoot, for whatever reason, i'll let them walk.

    How does everyone else feel?

You're complaining about getting shot after just gunning two people down for their van? Really? Seriously? You got shot. How you got shot is irrelevent. Getting shot by a sniper gun at long range or a makarov at point blank range is the same thing, getting shot. Instead of figuring out that you did something WRONG in your tactics, you complain that sniping is the problem and that it was due to a camper. That has to be the most idiotic logic there can be. You got shot, therefore the problem was your fault. 1. You didn't check the hills before going into the airfield. 2. You didn't check the ATC before going into the airfield. 3. You assumed those two people were the only ones around. 4. You CRAWLED towards the ATC from the hangers. That was just a brilliant move! I would have been able to head shoot you myself from any hill around the area with you doing that. 5. You then come to the forums to complain about snipers when it was your own stupidity that got you killed. What if someone had run up behind you and axed you to death while you were crawling. Would you have come to the forums and complained that hatchets are overpowered and lame? Use some critical f'ing thinking when you play this game.

    Bandit Tactics

As has been mentioned already, the two most important features in success (whether it's PvP or PvE) is situational awareness and patience. These are the two biggest keys that will allow you to utilize tactics, and take a high percentage shot. Just because you see someone doesn't mean you should pull the trigger. You have to quickly and accurately determine what the person is doing, what gun he has showing since that will help you decide if you should close to CQC, or if you should stay at range, like 300-400 out. If someone has an Enfield and I have an AKM, i'm going to get up close and personal with him since i'll have the advantage in a close fight. But if it's the other way around i'm going to try to stay at range since the AKM at 300+ is highly inaccurate. Your decision making based on your situational awareness is next on the list. What you do in the next few seconds/minutes can determine if you come out of the fight a victor or a loser. Or even just being able to disengage and escape.
  4. I was referring to the hiding body aspect. I generally don't destroy (situational) camps because i'll write down the location and use it as a supply depot later on. Besides, camps are generally out in the tree's, forests, hills. Bodies are generally in a town/city where it is easier to stumble across. Plus bodies are a lot easier to hide/destroy than camps are. Saturday on Lingor Island I came across a giant base in a military hanger with about 15 vehicles. They had a sniper on look out pegging anyone that got close. I spotted it from about 700m out before the sniper spotted me. Luckily he wasn't a great shot and he missed me, so I was able to escape. I couldn't get close to it at that point as they had more people around that kept running me off. After a while I had to log out. But when I logged back in the next day I was hell bent on trying to destroy all their vehicles. It was going to be fun! Sadly though, they had moved their base sometime during the night and they were no where to be found.
  5. Cowardly? No. Tactically smart? Yes. If it has to be explained to you then you will never comprehend the why.

108 days and still no friends. :(

With the thousands of clans/guilds/groups out there, i'm sure there is one that you fit in with. I don't understand how anyone can play so long in today's gaming world and not find some people to game with that fits their preferred playstyle. Is social skills becoming a lost art?

Is the term "bandit" losing meaning?

Better game play experience according to who? Yours? Why is your game play more "right" than my game play? As long as I am not cheating/hacking/glitching/exploiting than why is the way I choose to play wrong while your way is "right?"

Is the term "bandit" losing meaning?

So in your "opinion" you think people who rob but don't shoot/kill are more honorable than those who do? Even when the end result is the same? That is you are left with nothing? What if i'm freshly spawned, I loot around, and find a Winchester '66. I then start making my way to a destination I chose to go to. Along my way I notice a player running down the road, and he stops in a shack to check for something. I run past him thinking he will continue down the road so that I can try to ambush him. I notice as he comes out that he has a AKM. In this situation he has a gun better suited for CQC. He continues down the road and I see he is going to go right past me. With the end result being equal, what has more risk? A) I speak to the guy over direct chat and tell him to lay down his gun and drop all his gear, including backpack. Will he comply? If he doesn't I have now just given away any chance of surprise for my ambush. My shot difficulty just went up significantly since he is now aware he has an enemy nearby. If he does, how do I even know he dropped his pistol? He could say he didn't have one. Say he says he dropped all his gear, I let him run off. I then go down to the loot pile and start rummaging through it. Who's to say that he can't double back on me and pop me while i'm looking at the loot, with a gun he said he didn't have? B ) I spot the guy come out of the shack and start running down the road. He's running straight where I thought he would go, and my shot selection is going to be good. He enters my firing lane, and I shoot. I knock him out and now he's just laying there bleeding. I run up to him and pop him a couple more times to put him down. Now I have a little bit of time to go through his body/gear and select what I need, and what I want. I have just KoS this guy running down the road. Why does option B make me a "douchebag" while option A has more risk with the same reward? That player was in the wrong spot at the wrong time. He was in fact just unlucky. I spotted him, devised a plan, and then executed the plan to minimize risk my players life.

Answer me this. What is the difference between being robbed (not killed) and left with nothing, and being shot and starting over with nothing? Does it make someone more Knightly that they took your stuff without shooting you?

Tired of KoS? Do something about it!

Unfortunately, most, though not all, do cry about it. I get lumped in with all the derogatory names that get called out in side chat. It's ok though. I know how I play. I know I don't cheat/hack, though have been accused of it though. And that's what bugs me, is that entitlement feeling people have in this game. "I'm a survivor, I shouldn't be shot. I'm a fresh spawn, I shouldn't be shot." If there's one thing I have learned about this game, it's that it isn't fair. I get killed by hackers, glitches, and my own stupidity. But since it's only a game i'm not going to have an anyerism over it.

Tired of KoS? Do something about it!

I can't speak for other people, but I can state why I enjoy it. For me it is the unpredictability of the situations you find yourself in. I search for people, but I don't shoot everyone I see, even if I may want to. For me it is the surviving and execution. Can I safely engage someone and survive? Will my attack expose me to someone else I know is running around? Will I be shot in my back by an unknown player? All these things add excitement to my game. I don't sit on top of spawn points, but I also am moving around and looking. Even during these movements I run across players and have tense moments. I want these moments because the unknown is exciting. I may not be geared up yet. I may only have an enfield. What are my options then? Am I close, or should I try and get range for that gun? Do I have an AKM? I better get within 200m, preferably 100m. Can I do so safely? How can I play the cat and mouse game with the zombies that may be around without agro'ing them, so I don't give away my position? I like to loot, I like to fix vehicles and choppers. It is the fear of the unknown that keeps me playing. I want the confrontations because that is where the game gets exciting. Can I outplay the other player? Make the choices that keep me alive, by either escaping, or engaging and taking the enemy down? Wastelands my be without zombies, but from what I hear, everyone has a gun, and fairly well setup kits (from what I hear). It's missing the variable of the situations. I could be cornered in a factory with only a hatchet and outnumbered. I could be rolling with an sniper gun and get popped by a guy with a makorov. I'm not going to get those unique situations in wasteland. Maybe the guy I'm stalking gives me the slip and I lose him. Maybe my error in judgement agro a swarm of zombies and I trap myself in a house and I have to blast out of there. Wasteland doesn't have that dynamic to my knowledge.

Fun is subjective. Some people find repairing cars fun while others find it boring. Same with shooting people versus trying to befriend them.

Good post, and I applaud you for it. You found a role that you want to play and like to play. Just as I have found a role that I want to play and like to play. No way is better than the other except to the player that plays it. Fact is I would love it if you were trying to counter-snipe me. I want the competition, the excitement that someone may get me. I don't play this game just to shoot players. I play it because the PvP in this game is so open, so random, so unforeseen, that you just don't know what to expect. I have the possibility to get into a fight with a makarov against a guy with a M4, but still have the chance to survive and escape or kill. Doesn't mean I will, but there is the chance, depending on my decisions and my execution.

Tired of KoS? Do something about it!

XOTCadde, I understand what you are trying to do, but I think you are really just wasting your time. I've PvP'd in a lot of sandbox games that had PvP elements, and it was always the same story of "I don't want to PvP so I should not be forced to PvP", even if they entered into a PvP zone. The only difference between this game and the other games I've played is that this game is 24/7 open PvP. So PvP can happen anywhere at anytime. And when it does happen they get so bent out of shape about it that they cannot think clearly on the subject of why they got shot, how they got shot, what they can do to avoid it next time. It's only "I got killed by another player and that shouldn't be allowed to happen" mindset. The options you listed are really the only options they have available short of removing any part of the PvP in this game. But because it has PvP, not necessarily KoS, they will never accept it and will never attempt it. The only thing we can do is to keep countering their arguments and hope the developers do not take away any form of PvP in this game. I have watched games get their PvP nerfed into oblivion because of people who are so against it that they will do anything necessary to get it changed. I don't want to see that happen in DayZ, either the mod or the future standalone. At that point this game is no longer worth playing. Like you I am a playerkiller. Though I don't shoot everyone I see, I play the game for the PvP. There are so many different situations to find yourself in that if at any point I was deemed "safe" from anything but zombies then it would ruin the experience that I set about to find. But to many all I am is a griefer because what I do in their eyes is try to ruin their game. It doesn't matter that they entered this game knowing all the risks that come with it. Good luck, but I think you'll find you'll have more success getting a pig to fly.

Fed up of fighting in Cherno and Elecktro

My suggestion to you is to leave the Chernarus map for other maps. My two favorites are Lingor Island and Panthera. Lots of different tactical situations to be had on those maps. Especially if you play with a group. Chernarus is boring in comparison.
  16. Being able to just rob someone would be a nice feature to have in the game. But as it stands now with the way the mechanics of the game are, it is extremely high risk to rob someone at gun point. You have to have a lot of variable factors go your way. It is easier at this point in time to just shoot the person dead and take what you need.

You can get infected from being shot?

I noticed the other day I was hit by a zombie, became infected and started coughing. I started making my way towards a hospital but was a ways out. Before I was even half way there I noticed I was not coughing anymore and didn't seem to be losing any blood. Not sure if I was hacked and fixed, or if it was a glitch, or what the deal was that caused me to be cured. Just that I didn't have to take any antibiotics.

    KoS, an examination

I think you are failing to grasp the overall point of my posts. Which is sandbox allows people to choose how they want to play. Play how you want where you want with what you want. Some people choose to KoS. I could care less if people "praise" me for being good at PvP. All I care about is if I play smart, make my shots when they count, and PLAY HOW I WISH TO PLAY. Any anger you may sense comes about from carebears trying to force their non-pvp viewpoints in a game that is very PvP-centric. Only thing I care about is that the game is not nerfed to the wishes of carebears that want to change the nature of the game. They entered this game knowing full well all the risks this game brings. Just because you are unarmed, or under-geared, doesn't give you any right to be left alone. That is what the carebears are pushing for... that Oh, i'm a fresh spawn so you shouldn't shoot me. That's bullshit. If your a fresh spawn and someone shoots you, that is the choice of the shooter. And what does it matter that you got shot as a fresh spawn? YOU HAD NOTHING TO LOSE. Not quite sure what you are trying to imply. It's a video game, there's nothing to lose.

    KoS, an examination

If the guy had been KoS I would have died. And it would have been justified and understandable. Heck, I expected to get shot. On the flip side if I had a weapon when I stumbled across them I might have tried to shoot them, thus getting shot by the 240 on the side of the chopper. But who knows, things may have worked out differently. The point is, KoS or not KoS, the objective in that instance was the chopper. I wanted it, they had it, I knew they weren't going to give it to me, so I had to take it. They should have KoS since I didn't say a word to them as I ran up to it. I don't care if people KoS or not. What I am arguing for is for people to understand the dangers this game has because of the many choices people have to do as they please in this game. If someone wants to KoS it is not your right to tell them to stop. Sure you could complain about it, but then again they like watching you guys cry. I know I do. I poke them over and over again when I see them bawling on side chat (whether I shot them or not). Now for me I don't go sitting on spawn points just waiting for someone to hop in. But if i'm recently spawned, and I have a gun, and a spawn comes walking up to me, he is probably going to get shot because he is not part of my group. On the flip side I have been going passed spawn area's and seen newly spawns with guns come at me. So why should I not shoot them even though i'm better geared? He has a low risk/high reward. I have a high risk/low reward. My risk is being shot by this guy who wants all my better gear. So I will (and have) shoot them to save my own skin. KoS justified.

    KoS, an examination

It's more like the game has these PvP elements that are designated PvP, and then complain when they get attacked. They then go that boards forums and cry and start a movement to get said PvP zone nerfed so that they can go loot that area in peace. I've watched it happen in a number of games, all because those carebears are little whiny bitches who didn't want to understand the risk they took when they entered said PvP zone. DayZ is one giant PvP zone. Players give their consent to the risk inherent in said PvP zone when they join a server. Doesn't mean you will get PvP, but it means they are subject to the possibility of PvP. And then when PvP does find them they cry like the baby they are because they couldn't be half-assed to understand the risks of this PvP zone.
  21. Tek (DayZ)

    KoS, an examination

Doesn't matter how you word it, DayZ is still a game and only a game. You might have more of an investment in it than other games, but it is still a game. I don't PvP just to "shoot" people. I PvP for the competition. I'm perfectly fine if I have a great battle but come out on the losing end. To me it's all about the competition. Cat and Mouse game. If I ambush someone then I out played him. Whether he knew I was there or not is irrelevant. If he was not aware of his surroundings then that is his fault for not understanding his risk in this video game. If he knew I was there and still lost, then he got out played. I don't care if I die in this video game, but I also try to play to win, as in not get shot. I also have to play the zombies so that when I do shoot I don't get swarmed. And PvP doesn't have to be with just a gun. Last night for instance on Lingor Island, I had just been eaten by zombies from trying to help a friend who'd been shot. I spawn in and the first thing I hear is a helicopter landing near me. Just my luck. I decided to charge it as I had absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. I ran towards the sound, saw it landing, and used cover to run up to it. As I started running through the open field on a dead sprint at the chopper I ended up running right next to the pilot who was standing around doing I don't know what. He saw me, turned and watched me run right up to his chopper, and get into the pilot seat. I fired it up right away and as the blades start turning he opens up on me with an AK 74. He only got a couple hits on me out of 2 clips (don't ask me how), and by the time I take off i'm bleeding at at 6k health. I wasn't bleeding bad but was a concern. His buddy stayed in the gunners seat the whole time I ran up to them and never opened up on me. I flew to a buddy, went low and hovered and let my buddy shoot the unknown guy out of the seat.. I landed, bandaged, and then took off again. And as you can imagine I got called every name under the sun by everyone else, even though the guy I stole it from didn't have a problem as he understood what happened. Unfortunately as I was landing far away and about 20m off the ground a hacker caused me to eject from the chopper and I died as my parachute was coming out. Chopper crashed and killed my buddy. Moral of the story, guy set down in a bad spot, wasn't prepared to defend it, and let it get hijacked. Was another form of PvP, and I won. It was exciting!

    KoS, an examination

I would expect the player to be mentally competent enough to understand the risks they agree'd to when they entered the game. But I know this is not the case as common sense is very uncommon. Makes me feel that much better that I actually game with people who can think critically and understand the basic concepts of the games we play. While people can (and do) team up to help each other, this game is also about competing against other people. Either directly as in firefights, or indirectly stealing loot. And if you're not part of my group then you're the competition. I wouldn't want someone in my group who cries about getting shot because they felt entitled to live in a game that they accepted the risk of death and starting completely over.
  23. Tek (DayZ)

    KoS, an examination

I'm not forcing my play style on them due to the fact that they entered into this game that has those risks involved. They chose to play, knowing full well they will be at risk of PvP 100% of the time. I could choose not to shoot them. They could also choose not to play. But them feeling entitled to live because they don't want to PvP forces an attempt to take a choice away from me. I could choose to shoot, or not shoot. But I should not be held at the bottom of the dregs of human kind should I choose to shoot. The game offers this choice to me. They chose to play this game with all the inherent risks involved. From Zombies, and players. I am not forcing my play style on them when they know the risks of the game.
  24. Tek (DayZ)

    KoS, an examination

People are trying to "force" a playstyle. You see it in how people react to being shot. They cry, bitch and moan, call people douches, call the shooter derogatory things, all because they got shot. They are trying to force their "entitlements" of surviving because they don't like what happened to them. It's done through peer pressure, and a belief that their way is the only way to play and so anyone who doesn't play like me is the devil, or beneath them. Yes, people try to force a certain style of play. If someone does not want the RISK of being shot, or KoS, by a bandit, or anyone, then they are in the wrong game. I don't kill everyone on sight, but at the same time I do play this game for the PvP. Whether i'm hunting, then stalking, and then ambushing someone, or happen across a chance encounter while i'm doing things for clan members, i'm always ready to pull the trigger. And I play as if I am being hunted. That means not stopping in doorways to look at the loot. Always trying to limit the LOS on me, or if I know someone is around, moving through cover, or if I know i'm going to be shot at, giving them a high angle of attack (90 degree's is best). In other words, playing smart, whether i'm being hunted or not. Does it always work? Nope, i've been ambushed, been gunned down. I usually laugh it off, figure out what I did wrong, figure out how they got me, and start over. Unless I feel there was something wrong with how I died, then I start to look into it with the admins on the server. If no hacks great, I got out played, bravo other guy. If I got killed by a hacker, well that sucks and I help the admin try to get the guy to reveal himself and get him booted.
  25. Tek (DayZ)

    KoS, an examination

Not necessarily. It is still up to the player to "choose" what to do. And it is not cool to try and "force" a certain playstyle on someone. Everyone has their own way of going about DayZ. If that includes KoS, so be it. If it includes befriending bambies, so be it. The choice is in the player, not in unwritten arbitrary rules.
