The best sniper spots in DayZ

My good sniper spots are anywhere I can take a shot. It doesn't even need to be a wide field of view. Take a vehicle, leave it on a road/runway, go up in the tree's with a narrow field of view down to said vehicle, and let the fun begin.

    Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?

Again, because you think it's cheating does not make it cheating. It is available to all. It is easy to use. It gives advantages to those who so choose to play the game to the best of their abilities. When I want to play with friends, I am going to get on TS and talk with my friends who may or may not be playing the game, or the same server. If they are so much the better. But your way of fun does not make my way of fun cheating. All it does is make you a whiner.

    Wind and ballistics system

As the poster above started to ask. Visual aids to help us figure out the wind? Not only where we are at, but where the bullet is going. If it's blowing 1 mph from the North where i'm shooting, is it going to be the same at my target? Or is it going to be completely different, like 30 mph from the South? If it's uniform through out (with variations of course) then you effectively kill sniping in the game. Now, for another important question. If someone asked it already I apologize, as I did not read the whole thread. Is the added wind feature for ballistics also going to help mask shot sounds? If it's windy, and your upwind of a shot, it becomes much harder to hear that shot. Conversely if you're on the other side of a mountain and it's extremely windy, and someone shoots on the other side of the mountain, it becomes harder to hear the shot. Not saying it shouldn't be hear, but more difficult to be heard. If you add one, you should add the other. Just because people cry about snipers being to easy in no way means they are easy. Wind is good, as long as everything is taken into account. People are crying about realism. Part of realism is the sound waves of the bullet being heard or not being heard based on wind, terrain, and direction of the shot.

EU Servers vs North America Servers

Felt bad? I would have told them to kiss my ass. You did what you wanted to, how you wanted to, when you wanted to. They had the expectations of living and not being shot. I would have shot them just on that crap alone. Then I would have told them I buried their bodies and watched them cry for their mommies. Seriously, you did nothing wrong. You played your game how you felt like you needed to. If they were butthurt because you shot them in a video game those people should go play another game that doesn't involve any kind of competition between players.

How do you fight players in CQC?

I love the AKM, but I really only try to use it when i'm within 200m. Once they start getting out at range it really becomes inaccurate. Atleast for me it is. I'm a good shot, but even with zero'ing to the proper distance still isn't exactly where I was aiming, even though the bullet hits really close. Now i've taken people out at 300-350 with the AKM, but it becomes much more difficult. I just know for me, with my playstyle, and my skills, once I get out past 200m I prefer semi-auto rifles like the M14, FN-Fal, and Enfield. I'll use those out to 400-500m depending on the situation. And I hate the ACOG. It has no power, and at range burst shot is just a waste because the kick, jump, of the rifle throws the next two bullets high, and higher. Every time i've hit people with the ACOG, if I don't hit them in the head, they just run away and hide and bandage. And then i'm left with trying to get close while they know i'm there, and being more alert. Basically losing any and all advantage that I had.

How do you fight players in CQC?

For CQC I like the AKM best, but the M4 is highly accurate in close. But I feel the extra damage from the AKM far outweighs the increase in accuracy with the M4. Though the AKM isn't that inaccurate in close. For me there is no best method. It all depends on the situation. I've stalked people, watched them go into a building, and then setup and waited for them to come out and popped em. Other times i've seen someone while going through a town and they haven't seen me, and then I work to flank them or get on their six and shoot em in the back. If i'm fired upon the first thing I do is find cover and/or limit their LOS and AoA (make it as close to 90 degree's as I can make it). That may include going prone behind a rock, or booking it into a building. Just depends on the situation. One thing I never do is combat log. I see the encounter to the end, win or lose.

    Skilled Vs Unskilled bandits

Not 100% true. While some bandits aren't scared, others are. Just because you have bandit skin doesn't mean that was your preferred playstyle. Someone could have defended himself against 2-3 players over the course of a night/life and get the skin. Says who? What rule in the game states this? True. A great bandit knows that just because you see someone doesn't mean you should start blasting, or that you are even in a position to take a shot. A great bandit can assess the situation and determine if the person they see can taken out. What is that persons route? Getting closer or farther from the bandit? Is the person actively looting or just passing through? What kind of weapon are they holding? Backpack? Do they have friends or is he solo? All this information is going to determine whether the bandit should attack or keep observing. Very true. Why should I expose myself to being shot or eaten by zombies by doing the loot when I can keep my survival higher by ambushing the person who just looted. So if I play the game for the PvP encounters and excitement from the many different situations you can find yourself in, and happen to shoot any and all people I come across (that aren't in my group) then I am stupid and dishonorable? If I play the game the way I want to and am not cheating/hacking, then how am I breaking any game rules? Why am I dishonorable because the way I play doesn't match up with the way you play? I fail because I seek out the pvp encounters? I try to survive 100% of the time, but I also don't run from the PvP encounters that I want in the game. That goes back to you play your way and i'll play my way. No way is wrong as long as you're not cheating/hacking. You trying to force your way of playing on the way I play is what is wrong. Arbitrary rules do not make the game better. It limits the game. just my few beans. But that is my goal as a bandit. I don't have to rob or hold people up to be a bandit. That just increases my risk to not surviving (since your logic is the game is to be played with survival in mind). Again, i'll play my way and you play your way. Stop telling people they have to play a certain way to be honorable. My goal is the PvP encounters because of the excitement it brings to the game. Zombies don't do that for me. They are just part of the environment that I am trying to survive in.

    Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?

For everyone that thinks using TS is a cheat (so hilarious), you better stop using: - Side chat to talk to anyone not in your immediate area. - Using any chat/voice channel in game that is not in your immediate area. - Stop using Skype and TS yourself so that you're not a hypocrite. By your logic we shouldn't be able to talk to anyone unless they're next to us, or have a in-game radio that lets us talk up to a couple Km away. Direct chat allows us to speak to 80m. Stop using it as it's not realistic. Group chat, stop using it unless they're close to you. Vehicle chat, stop using it unless they're close to you. There you go, you can play the game as it was meant to be played in your eyes. If you're using those then you're cheating... by your stupid logic.

    Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?

This is one of the most idiotic things i've ever read on here. So is it not fair to people who take the bus because other people drive their own car? Or how about it's unfair that I have a GTX670 and the guy I killed has a GTX460. Or it's unfair that I used a fully automatic gun when the guy only had a semi-automatic gun. Or it's unfair that I cooked that meat because I had matches and some joe schmoe coudln't cook his meat because he didn't have matches. Or that I have to work all freaking day when others can work half the day. Go use your brain.

Why bandits are needed in dayz...

That's just a person who has no ethics. But in the game, if I shoot someone that has no gun, does that make me unethical in the game? How is that any different than if I shoot someone that has a gun? Why does one make the bandit a "scumbag" and the other just a survivor? Both kills eliminated a potential threat.

Why bandits are needed in dayz...

And what if i'm not a role player? What if I just play the game however I want and if I shoot someone I shoot someone. If I don't, I don't. Why the F^ does it matter how I play the game? Because it might cause you to become a fresh spawn? If that bothers you then you might be better off NOT playing this game.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

No way would a CZ weigh 20+ lbs. Standard hunting rifle in (ex .270, 30-06, 7mm) weigh about 7-8 pounds. Unless you have ridiculous amounts of gear on your 8mm rifle, there is no way it would way 22 lbs just for hunting. My .270 rifle weighs just a tad over 7 lbs.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

And maybe the bases had to prepare for groups of people they turned away for help? Groups that had access to vehilces, which could ram through the base. Don't underestimate the lengths people will go to in order to survive. Just because your opinion is no AS50's or M107's in no way makes you right. It is after all an opinion.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

I didn't know this was a point and click game! Frick, all this time i've been working hard to aim and hit my target. Guess I just need to one of those guns and point it at someone and bam! I win! I've been doing it the hard way all this time.... /facepalm So servers with tons of vehicles running around, some with tanks, some with chinooks heli's, some with apache's, some with Humvee's with .50's on the back, has no reason for M107's or AS50's?

    Skilled Vs Unskilled bandits

So if you were killed by both kinds of bandits then how does that make one bandit skilled and the other unskilled? So, because it was night, you ran around looting with a carefree attitude. How do you know it was a sniper on the hill? How do you know you didn't get snuck up on and shot in the back of the head? How is that shooter an unskilled bandit when he shot you at exactly the right moment when he would have his best possible shot (assuming he was on the hill)? How is that nothing but your fault for getting shot when you stated you had seen a sniper on that hill before and yet you stopped in a spot that gave him a shot? The fact that you had no chance to fight back suggests that this was a highly skilled bandit. He shot one time when you stopped, he didn't just start shooting the moment he saw you. The fact that you stopped in a spot he could still see you suggests that you made the mistake, and not the "unskilled" bandit. So because you got robbed (what a joke to get robbed), in a town, and survived, makes this guy more "skilled?" Give me a fucking break. Everyone has a different skill set. Some are more skilled in the close quarters combat, where high automatic guns rule. Some are more skilled where the distances are 200-400m, where assault rifles like the M14, Fal, and Enfield rule. Some are better at set ups to make sniper shots at 500+m. Where they make their 1 shot count. It isn't just shoot shoot shoot the moment they see someone. It's waiting for the right shot, and then making it count. This last person may suck at CQC, but excel at thinking as a sniper. Where to setup, knowing the guns tendencies, knowing when to shoot and when to wait. How does that make him less skilled then the person who is great at CQC but sucks at sniping? The fact that you want the game played a "certain" way shows your true colors. Arbitrary rules. Don't shoot some fresh spawn, don't shoot hero skin, you can only shoot someone if you're within 100m, and when you shoot them you must shoot to break their leg so you can rob them. Only then will you be "skilled." More like only then are you trying to force your playstyle on everyone. Everyone has different playstyles. Everyone excels in different area's of the game. Some prefer to just fix vehicles, some prefer to chopper hunt, some prefer shooting choppers from the sky with other choppers. What makes your opinion more right then anyone else? And yes, it is an opinion. So if they shoot first instead of trying to hold you up they're a wimp and a scaredy cat? They become a true bandit only if they try to rob you? If you get robbed it just shows what kind of player you are. If anyone told me to stand still and drop my gear i'd try to escape and then try to kill them. Maybe it's just me, but it seems to me if I get robbed I have nothing. If I get killed I have nothing. Atleast if I fight back then I have a chance to keep my stuff.

Why bandits are needed in dayz...

So then what is the difference between an ethical bandit and an unethical bandit?
  18. Worst things I've done in a video game called DayZ? Uhh, think I clipped a tree driving a SUV and the car blew up. Two of my guild members were passengers. I felt bad about that. Shooting someone? Never felt bad about that. This is after all a VIDEO GAME.
  19. I always thought DayZ viewing distance was 1600m. Just that the weather, ie rain and fog, would drop your viewing distance. I don't play much on the Chernarus map, nor on a public hive, anymore, so can't be sure if it is map related or not. But I do know on Panthera and Taviana, I have been able to see well over 1200m easy with no weather effects. The other day I was on Taviana and took a few shots a couple players with an M24 at 1312m (just to see if I could hit that far with that gun), and I could still see much further than that. Next time I have perfect weather conditions i'll try to get a range on my viewing distance.

When is it Okay to KoS?

Supposed to be played? You play by the rules of the game. In DayZ's case since it is a video game the rules are dictated by the mechanics of the game. If the game did not want people to shoot other people in the game then the game would have been made in such a way as to disallow it from happening. If the game wanted us to jump, the game would have been made with us being able to jump. Thus the rules of the game are hard-coded. Meaning I can't jump. Meaning I can choose to shoot or not shoot. That is the way the game was designed. Monopoly is a board game, where the rules can be decided upon by the players because nothing is set in stone (like in a video game). If the players want to start with 2 million, or start with 4 houses upon purchase of a property, they can make those rules because it is just them in a game where the rules can be dictated by the players, and not the board. You cannot dictate the rules of the video game. It is code. It is the mechanics of the game. It is the design of the game. When you go down the road of "how it's supposed to be played" you start acting all high and mighty, like your way is the only way it's supposed to be played. Where arbitrary rules start trumping the real mechanics of the game on what you can do, and what you shouldn't do. No shooting someone with a sniper rifle = arbitrary rule. No shooting bambi's = arbitrary rule. No shooting hero's = arbitrary rule. At what point do you just say, NO PVP? It's ridiculous. The only rules that should be enforced are those that the game allows. And that is pretty much everything. Hacking, duping, exploiting, glitching are all breaking the rules, because you then bypass what the game is supposed to allow you to do.
  21. Tek (DayZ)

When is it Okay to KoS?

When is it ok to KoS? Whenever you choose to do so! For christ sakes, it's a damm video game. A sandbox game, where people can choose to play how they want. If someone wants to KoS, it's their choice in this video game, not yours, not your friends, not his friends, but that players CHOICE if he chooses to. If you don't like it, go play a different game. One that doesn't involve losing perhaps.
  22. Tek (DayZ)

    Define what a "Bandit" is.

It's all about being a red-scarf wearing bandit who is honorable, and only robs people when he needs something, and never shoots anyone, or kills anyone, or trys to hurt anyone. He just kindly asks for the loot to be given to him so that he can go on his happy merry way. And everyone is the better for this interaction of the red-scarf wearing bandit. Bandit is just a term given to people who shoot, by people who want to all live in harmonious peace, looting, and shooting zombies when ever their fancy strikes them. The fact that "carebears" cry about being shot says a lot more about the carebears than it does about the bandits. When is ANYTHING in life just going to be given to you? In this VIDEO GAME there is no entitlement to survive. There is no entitlement to not be shot by an unknown player. Saying friendly does not mean I am not going to shoot you. People need to grow up and realize that this game is about survival in any way shape or form. The moment you click ok to join a server is the moment you consent to the rules of the game. And the only rule is to survive. If I shoot you because I didn't want to worry about you doubling back on me and shooting me in the back (even if you say you wouldn't and that you were "friendly") it means that I chose to survive by being PREEMPTIVE! It's a sandbox game, I can choose to do whatever the fuck I want. If want to roll down a hill sideways with no weapon laughing at a sniper trying to shoot me from 1.2Km away, I can CHOOSE to do so. Or I can choose to go and flank him and try to axe him some questions. My choice of survival is my choice. Not yours, you don't pay for my gaming. Arbitrary rules always fuck up games. The only rules that matter are the games rules. And if the game allows me to shoot you in the face, I can choose to do so. It's a video game for crying out loud!
  23. Tek (DayZ)

    Define what a "Bandit" is.

Why? This is an open world sandbox. People can choose how they play. Why is one held honorably and the other held in such contempt when the outcome of the actions is still the same? Shooting for loot or self-defense = target shot dead. Shooting for fun = target shot dead. They both have the same result. They both create the same adrenaline rush with excitement. The only difference is one seeks out that excitement while the other avoids it if necessary. Last I checked, the person that got shot consented to the rules of the game (mechanics/design) when they entered a server to play this game. There for there is no greifing, there is no "ruining" anyones day. There is only survival. How one survives is up to that person. It is not up to some community to push arbitrary rules upon people to dictate how they THINK the game should be played.
