  1. Private all the way. The problem I have with public is that it is the Chernarus map. That map bores me to to the point of me wanting to fall asleep on my keyboard. If there were public hives that ran Lingor or Panthera, I would go public. But Chernarus is so plain as to make me not even want to attempt to join a public. The other maps promote interaction, whether good or bad, due to the make up of the landscape. I want that excitement that comes from encountering another individual/group. Vehicles for land/air are just there. I don't care if I get one or not, even though it can be fun to fly.

DayZ on GTX 670 (670 Users!)

Could you elaborate on this Ramdisk? It requires atleast 1GB to store the data? I'm running 12GB ram, 6-core 3.3GHz CPU, and a 670gtx. I'm playing on a Aftermath Panthera map mainly these days and only get 10-20fps normally (depends how long it has been since the server was restarted). Been a bit frustrating.
  3. Again. How is this an exploit when the mechanics of the game dictate that the zombies walk indoors? Everyone knows they don't run indoors. How are we supposed to not make it happen? How are we supposed to loot indoors when zombies walk indoors? How are we supposed to play the game at all if you deem it an exploit that zombies walk indoors? The mechanics are known... zombies walk indoors. Because we know what the mechanics are we formulate plans of attack in order to loot, or pass through the city. Part of that plan is to utilize buildings to lose zombies. Again, because the mechanics made it that way. Now an exploit would be where the mechanics do not allow something, but due to a glitch, bug, whatever, a player knowingly uses said bug for personal advantage. The old tent duping items last year was an exploit. Items multiplying in tents were not by design, nor did the mechanics of the game allow this to happen normally. Yet people figured out how the duping happened and did the tricks that allowed it happen. That is exploiting. Losing agro through buildings in this game is not exploiting because the mechanics have dictated that zombies walk indoors since DAY 1. Tents were not supposed to dupe items by design. There is a big difference. Again... how in the world is this exploiting when the game has been like this since Day 1? This has been the mechanics of the game for as long as I have been playing! I have no control over someone being in a town that I am not at yet. I have no control over the zombies spawning. But since the mechanics of the game have deemed that zombies will spawn when players are near then your argument is flawed. You as a player cannot control the actions of another player going into a town before you. But you will sure as heck know that they are there since the zombies are already there. Am I supposed to just pretend I did not see them?? If I come across a town and see zombies in that town then I sure as heck am going to make a decision on what I want to do. I'm not going to pretend I don't see them and then run in blind thinking i'm the only one there. How stupid would that be? The mechanics are that zombies spawn when players are (or used to be) within 200m. I cannot control them spawning by another player if I have not made it in that town yet. But because of the mechanics, I am going to make a decision on what I am going to do. This is not SA yet. This is a mod of Arma2. And the mechanics of the game have been dictated since day 1. Just because you don't like the fact that zombies don't run, or are already spawned in a town, does not make it an exploit, nor me (or anyone else) an exploiter. It's faulty logic at best. We will find out when SA is released what tactics need to be canned, and what tactics can be kept. We will not know 100% until we get there. But i'm sure you'll find something in that game that you would deem an exploit even though the mechanics allow it. I wouldn't call it sensitive... but it does get old seeing people cry about KoS, about Banditry, and about PvP in general in this survival game. We don't go around telling you that you have to pvp, we only say that you have to survive. We don't go around telling people they are only a "true" player if they play a certain way. I respect people that don't want to PvP. But I sure as hell do not respect people that tell me that because I PvP that i'm playing it wrong, or that I am a lesser player. It's like the liberal democrats and whack job environmentalists telling people they can't do something or can't have something just because they don't like that something.

    Why are people so hostile???

Kind of like the drivers that are so impatient that they ride your ass and try to pass you when there is no place for them to pass you to? I have that every morning and every evening going to and from work. I've taken the approach to piss them off even more. I'll slow down, and pace a car, or truck in the slow lane and just watch in my rear view mirror as they start seething and gripping their steering wheel harder. It's hilarious that they expect you to move over when you're following 100 cars in front of you that are going the same or just slightly faster than all the 100's of cars in the slow lane. The entertainment value is high when they flip you off and curse and scream at you for not driving faster.
  5. Why would this be an exploit? Why would breaking LOS for x-amount of time to break agro be considered an exploit? If we want realism, then lets start with the fact that a) zombies are not realistic in the first place, and b: if a were true than by their very nature of being a zombie, would not have the brain function to be tactically sound, and deduce where a player may have gone. Thus losing a zombie should become a possibility once LOS has been broken for x-amount of time. This isn't an exploit when the mechanics of the current game are dictated by zombies spawning near players. If I run over a mountain and look at a town below me at 700m, why would I be exploiting if I see zombies and then make a decision to not go into that town? That is no fault of my own that zombies were spawned by someone in the town. In this current mod, zombies spawning around players in a town, and other players using that as a first line of information, is not an exploit. It is mechanics that have dictated tactical game play. I will still shoot on sight if I want to, I will still not be friendly towards anyone not in my group if I don't want to. I will still play the game how I want to play the game and not how other people think other people should play the game. Passive aggressive shots at bandits are not cool man.

So your a tough bandid? We need you!

If it was any other map I would check it out.
  7. I watched your video and was not impressed. No scoping with an as50 at <100m? Really? Why don't you just get your pistol out and shoot him? Why not just use a hatchet? Talk about a waste of ammo and tactics. I'd have just scoped and shot him when he hopped the fence. Easy, done, 1 shot. It hurt to watch that video because of the horrible decisions I saw. I'm not necessarily taking his side, but how is shooting someone in the back a dick move? Because you didn't look him in the eyes? Tell him to drop his gun and all his gear? Seems to me that when I shoot someone in the back I made a good smart move to put myself in that position to limit the possibility of me getting shot at. But to you it's a dick move? You're making a case that he is a spammer just off the fact that he had a half empty akm mag? Brilliant!

The best Dayz tip you have ever heard

As it was intended is highly subjective... But as to exploits....do you consider the following as exploits or just smart tactical game play? Running through houses to lose agro? Reloading a not quite empty clip of ammo so that it goes back to full on next relog? Loot cycling? Killing on sight because of reason X, Y, and Z? Parking your vehicle on the railroads by the docks in Cherno/Electro so Zombies can't get to you? Sitting underneath the blades of a chopper so Zombies can't get to you? Running up a hill to lose agro? Running down a hill to make zombies jump and die? Using smoke to agro zombies away from you? Leading a zombie train into another player? Eating 12 steaks in a row to regain health? Logging off while bleeding to wait for a friend with a bandage and bloodbag?
  9. Tek (DayZ)

    What's your reason to KOS?

I have to have a reason to shoot someone on sight? Like they might have looked at me wrong or took a step towards me? How about I KOS because I freaking want to. I hunt people because in this VIDEO GAME it is fun to do. To the OP...stop trying to be a passive aggressive player who is trying to make those of us who do KOS bad. How is this for my reason. When I log into a server, that map is now my territory. You are trespassing on my territory and the penalty for trespassing is death. If I see you on my territory I will shoot you down. All vehicles, loot, zombies, animals, belong to me as they are in my territory.
  10. In this Video game setting, players should and will always be the bigger threat. Why? Because no computer AI can match the unpredictable and random nature of a person. Matching wits with a player will always have the potential to make the game be extremely difficult. No matter how high you raise the zombies hit points and damage output, they will always be a part of the game code. They will always have some predictable sequence that will be discovered and exploited for tactical advantage.

    What map is it?

    Idiot people

That sucks... On Lingor I got banned by a kid who thought I TP'd behind him. I had spotted him in El Villon from a distance and then watched him blow up the ATC with a satchel charge, with someone in it. While it was exploding I started hightailed it closer and determined the direction he was moving. As he got close I popped up from behind a rock and shot him in the face with an AKM. About 1-minute later I was banned. About 30 minutes later I got the banned lifted, but boy was I pissed. I hate being accused of cheating. All my success is done legally and with smart play.
  13. The least you could do is make your statement slightly believable. Sitting in a tree in 3rd person does not allow you to be able to see everything. Last I checked you look behind you and you see..... A TREE! How bout I support the servers I want to support. I happen to use 3rd person in this game because the 1st person view is HORRIBLE! It gives me a headache, it doesn't give good FOV. That is why servers have different options. Don't like it then don't play it. And don't dictate YOUR game play on others. Because all that makes you is a turd.

    Idiot people

This one time on Panthera, I shot a little bird with an AS50. It fell straight down and exploded. I then ran away because I thought big foot might get me.
  15. Same with me. Once I got a handle on the game, how zombies moved, how my character moves, all I did was seek out people. But that's me. It's hard for me to play a game that doesn't have PvP. It's hard to play a game that does not promote PvP, nor have mechanics in place to enhance PvP. This game is great because it's sandbox, so you're free to do as you see fit.

Great informative post! Nice job Gews!

    Don't worry! I'm a "Hero" ;)

Well good for you... glad you shot them for lowering their weapons just because you're a hero. But... Personally i'd have shot you the moment an opportunity presented itself. I hate the fact that people expect to not be shot just because they: a) say "I'm friendly," B) are a fresh spawn, and c) are a hero. Expectations and sense of entitlement are what is wrong with people in this game (many games really).

    --- A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ---

Really?? Unplayable?? Seriously?? You have no audio to hear zombies? You can't run away from zombies/players? Are you able to shoot your weapon at zombies/players? Exaggerate much?

    How come nobody plays DayZ+

My guild played it briefly, and even tried to get our server working with it, but there were just too many problems. One big reason was the server database for item locations weren't matching up with where the items were really dropped, so when restart occured items were shifted from where they were dropped ingame to where the database said they were dropped. This caused a whole world of hurt. And the big issue for me was the base building that was added to it was basically going to be nerfed into oblivion. Any item you made could then be unmade or deconstructed by other people. So effectively there was no reason to even build a base. So at that point, what makes it any different then regular dayz? It's just a different version with a bunch of problems.

    People shooting freshspawns

I play this game for the PvP, and the excitement the encounters bring. But every once in a while I decide not to shoot at someone and I try to help them, or let them live. Every time i've done this i've take a bullet to the face or back. Never fails. And I always laugh and kick myself for not going with my instincts and just getting rid of the threat. It turns into a reminder of why I just KOS.

    People shooting freshspawns

Just because someone is unarmed does not mean they are not a threat. To me it's not about if they have anything interesting. It's about potential threat. I'm sorry.... unfair? It's DayZ. Life in DayZ is not fair. Heck, life isn't fair. Simple... eh.. it's situation dependent. That's your way of doing things. My way would be to just shoot them and let them spawn some place else. Everyone makes a big deal that you shot someone who didn't have anything. Well that fresh spawn didn't have anything to lose. So the only thing he lost is a few minutes time respawning at a different location.

    Some little secrets (tactics)

Patience is the biggest tip one can have. Things I do to survive is.. if I go into a City, 1. I make it as quick a run as possible. I look for what I need, and if I don't see it, I keep moving. 2. I know what I need before I go into the city. 3. I use the buildings as cover, and I try to never agro zeds. Agro gives you away. 4. I never shoot a zed unless I absolutely have to. Even if I agro I would rather lose them by moving through buildings then by shooting them. 5. Never go into a single entrance building unless I have to... mentioned above. 6. Always assume a sniper is watching you and move accordingly. Limiting LOS to likely sniper perches is HUGE. 7. As mentioned, use HEADPHONES. Speakers do not give you the fine details of sound that you can use to help make a decision for survival. 8. Do not be afraid of dying, but do not play to die. Playing too aggressively can get you killed, but playing too caustiously can get you killed as well.

    Best gun for player hunting

There is no "best" weapon per se. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses when it comes to PvP. Some have more strengths then others, but everyone seems to pick up on a style of fighting better than other people. Some excel at CQC, some at sniping, others at the medium range. For me, I'm decent to good at CQC, but I'm excellent at medium range, and sniping range. My preferred setup for hunting people is some kind of assault rifle like the M14, FN Fal, or Enfield. Fal is my favorite over all. Then a sniper rifle in my pack for farther and/or more precise shots, like if someone is moving around in buildings and I might get a shot through an opening. For pistol the M9SD, but only because it's silent. I don't want to give my position away if I have to shoot at an agro'd zombie or preventing an agro'd zombie. If you're within 400m, and in the open, you're most likely going down to a shot from the assault rifle. I have tagged people from out to almost 500m with them though.

    Best gun for player hunting

I haven't noticed that with the Fal. Next time I have Fal and guillie combo i'm going to look for that.
  25. So... you put the C130 on auto-pilot and then ejected out of it while it was on landing approach?
