Six Launcher - Easy Install/Update, Find/Join DayZ servers, worldwide network
ParaB replied to sickboy's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I've been using Sixupdater since I started playing DayZ three weeks ago, can't praise it enough. An excellent tool, thanks for your hard work. -
It's not that life is not valuable in DayZ, it's that death is not THAT punishing. As has been pointed out you can get yourself decently equipped within half an hour of respawning at the coast. I'd like to see weapon spawns reduced, so that a rifle or a pistol with ammo would actually be considered great loot. The 'survival' items (matches, knife, compass) should be far more easier to acquire than firearms and ammo IMO.
-
I have to say I prefer if certain game elements keep up the need for actual player interaction. As has been mentioned, cooked meat already works well to replenish your blood supply if you're a lone wolf, so IMO the blood transfusion feature should stay as it is.

You, you and you. You are all part of the problem.

Sadly, this seems to be a rather common mindset these days. -
[SOLVED] Always spawning in debug area (workaround found!)
ParaB posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Since 1.5.8.2 my char always spawns in the debug area, the wasteland without trees: I've been playing DayZ for the last 2 weeks without any problems. I'm using Sixupdater to install/update the mod, it shows ver 1.5.8.2 correctly installed. I get no error messages other than "CBA.main missing" every now and then. I've tried a dozen servers, and I always end up in the debug area. Any ideas how to fix this problem? -

Yeah, it's more a workaround than a real fix. Still beats starting over if you've got lots of stuff already though. :D -
[SOLVED] Always spawning in debug area (workaround found!)
ParaB replied to ParaB's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Ok, found a solution: simply run east. :) After about 2km or so you'll leave the debug area and enter Chernarus. I played for an hour, logged out and entered a different server and all was well again. -
[SOLVED] Always spawning in debug area (workaround found!)
ParaB replied to ParaB's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
The "CBA_MAIN" message shouldn't be a problem AFAIK, I got that one before and never had problems joining servers, besides the usual "waiting for...", of course. Two of my buddies have the same problem: always spawning in the debug area, no matter what server they try. I've been trying to get into the game for the last 2-3 hours, to no avail... -
Same problem here since updating to 1.5.8.2. Was near Stary Sobor at my campfire last night when the server went down. Since it was late anyway I called it a day and when I tried to log in again today no matter what server I try I spawn in the debug area. I'm using Sixupdater to update/install mod and it shows ver 1.5.8.2 installed.

1.) 2 minutes is FAR too long. There should be a feature to prevent the instant logging off but IMO 10-30 seconds would be enough. 2.) Bad idea. I often play solo on a server, then friends come on TS and we switch servers to join up. 3.) This problem has been brought up numerous times, rocket is aware of the issue.

I believe that the lack of bandit skins or a similar way of recognizing players who regularly kill other players will hurt the game. In my group we will most certainly switch from "live and let live" which, as far as survivors go, so far has worked pretty well, to "shoot everyone not in our group". The game will become IMO much less fun for solo players not travelling in packs with TS/Mumble/etc...

The One, The Only: I HATE TEMP THREAD
ParaB replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I logged into a server yesterday night, with full health, well supplied. In less than an hour I was down to 0 temperature, desperately searching everywhere for wood, having lost 2000 blood and coughing like I contracted a bad case of pneumonia. If there's ONE thing that should be available in abundance it's firewood. I can already see the body of a survivor, deep, in the forest, frozen to death. In one hand a box of matches, in the other hand a notice "can't find wood...so...cold...gonna..sleep..." -
I'm really not happy with the removal of bandit skins and I think it will hurt the game. No, it's not a perfect system. Far from it. But it was way better then what we get now. I do understand that the bandits rejoice about this change since it removes their major handicap, but I think there should be consequences for a player's actions in DayZ. Murderers will now enjoy complete anonymity in DayZ, something I believe is wrong. I play 2/3+ of my time in a group, we will most probably start shooting anyone on sight. I fear that this change will fundamentally change DayZ for the worse.

You can no longer fill in the sea? How about water purification tablets
ParaB replied to yorsh (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Or create the ability to cook water over a campfire. -
How about implementing a new command "introduce yourself" that works only at close range. Once a person has introduced himself, the target will see his name tag up to a distance of 20-30m to help with group play.

The Winchester 1866 or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love 19th Century Firearms
ParaB replied to Goose Springsteen's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The Winchester is one of the best weapons in the game for PvE, and by far the easiest one to obtain AND to get ammo for. It's a one-shot killer of Zombies and can be used to pick off Zombies from ~100m without alerting others. It suffers at ranges >200m and against human opponents sporting automatic weapons. And yes, the pellet ammo should be removed from the game. -
Your first reaction to seeing a zombie
ParaB replied to nix9862's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"Ah, finally a town! Let's see if I can find a roadsign. What's that noise? Oh, a Zombie. Hmm... doesn't actually look too scary. I'm gonna shoot him. *POWPOWPOW* Phew! That was easy. Now I'm gonna look if he... wait... what's that? Goddammit, there's another one! HOLYCRAP he's fast! There's two! OHGODOHGODOGOD! Reloading! Run! Panic! Aaargh, I'm bleeding! Help! No! Gaaaaaa...." Ok. How do I respawn? -
How Is The Community Enjoying The Game?
ParaB replied to GrAnzSkY's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I play ~30% solo and 70% in a small group (3-5 people) with TS and enjoy DayZ immensely. For an alpha version of a mod the amount of fun I'm already getting out of the game is simply incredible. -
Admitted Duping and Hacking 20+ LLKJ members
ParaB replied to EyesandEars's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No. These are the kind of people that get a kick of ruining other people's fun in an online game where they can hide behind the anonymity of the internet. I've seen Goons in more than one MMO and although some are undeniably fun and cool people a large number of them are simply total d*ckheads. -
No, thank you. It's still supposed to be a game and be enjoyable. I can deal with losing all my items and stats when I get killed, but having to wait half an hour before I can actually play again after some guy sniped me is breaking the line from "harsh" and "brutal" to "annoying" and "unfair". My advice: hit yourself over the head with a frying pan every time you get killed. ^^

Will DayZ cost money after Alpha?
ParaB replied to Spirit (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wholeheartedly agree with this. -
You start bleeding (slowly) when logging in and the hunger/thirst icons flash. Once you eat/drink the loss of blood stops. No need to bandage.
-
/this The increased number of Zombies have made it much more difficult for the single camper bandits.
-
No, you don't die while offline. The worst thing that happens when you log in is that both hunger and thirst icons blink and you start slowly losing blood. Always have at least one drink and one food in your inventory before you log out.
