I'd prefer a longer period for the player body to stay in game, too. Something like 10-15 seconds. Then a player really would have to look for a safe location to log out. But we'll see how it works out.

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
ParaB replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES I already planned to swim in the sea until I lose all equipment next time I respawn. Unfortunately I haven't done so in two weeks... ^^ -
I currently run around with a big coyote rucksack, M4CCO SD and all the goodies I can think of (no NVG though) and I wouldn't mind a reset. Would be a bit sad losing my 15-day char though.

should there be regular resets on characters
ParaB replied to vanilladragon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Absolutely horrible idea IMO. The one and only objective of the game is to survive. Why on earth should there be an auto-suicide feature in such a game? I'm currently on day 12 and while I'm sure I'll eventually die it shouldn't be due to some kind of artificial game time limit. -
G17 for me, hands down. A pistol's job is to take down Zombies without alerting half the Z population on a server. If you go for headshots the G17 kills Zs with a single bullet, which means 17 dead Zs with a single magazine. More kills/mag means less inventory space needed for pistol ammo. And since inventory space is always scarce, that's a BIG selling point. Also the flashlight is great for looting indoors at night or for quick signals to your group.

I once desperately searched for an animal to slaughter for two days, only to find 2 cows and 2 sheep the next day within moments of logging in. All in all I think the animal population is fine, you usually find something in a reasonable amount of time.

I still can't get my head around the notion that anyone not happy about turning a survival adventure into a deathmatch game is either a noob, a casual or a carebear. I think PvP is awesome and the very heart of the game. I don't care about dying. But the lack of any incentive not to kill any player as soon as spotted severely hurts the gameplay which could be a lot deeper than KoS anyone not in your TS group.

I've finally seen the light. After almost 4 weeks of playing DayZ I finally killed my 1st survivor. I was murdered (once again) when trying to interact with another player and started near Elektrozavodsk. As usual I made a quick trip into the city at night for a grab of supplies before heading North. Lots of dead bodies everywhere. Got some decent equipment when I finally spotted another survivor outside the pub. I didn't really need any of his stuff and was just about to leave the city anyway, but then the thought occurred to me: why not? There were no Zombies around, he wasn't aware of me and seemed alone. So I lined him up in the crosshairs of my AKM and put a couple of rounds into his head. Picked a few things off his body but nothing I couldn't have found in the supermarket just across the street. Still, why not? It's so easy to pull the trigger, you'd be stupid not to KoS.

WTF is happening to the server community.
ParaB replied to Koot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Was near Gorka in the middle of nowhere last evening. Found a cow and busied myself getting some fresh meat. A survivor approached with lowered weapon. I told him I had no intention to shoot him and if he needed some meat. He said yes, but he didn't have matches. So I created a fireplace, cooked all 8 steaks, then gave him 4. And I told him that I'd seen matches in the barn just down the road. He said thanks, then shot me in the face. Of course he did. Why run 100m to pick up a box of matches when he can simply take them from my corpse? It's not getting killed that so annoys me (the most interesting part for me is starting with a fresh char, getting your equipment together) , it's that there's simply no reason in DayZ any more to not kill anyone not in your TS group. Actually you're stupid not to do so. After 4 weeks of playing I'm now at a point where I probably wait for future updates until I play again. Sad. -
DayZ has become Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch
ParaB replied to underpaidorphan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I actually do. When I started playing DayZ a couple of weeks ago I played roughly 50% of my time solo/with random guys and 50% with my out-of-game buddies. This has dramatically changed lately since random groupings have become ridiculously dangerous. I basically only play with Rl buddies any more. And for me this is one of the reasons why I'm slowly getting bored of the game. The interaction with strangers was for me the really thrilling part of the game and the KoS playstyle adopted by many players kills this experience for me. EDIT: Dammit, Wüstenfuchs took the words right out of my mouth! :D -
DayZ has become Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch
ParaB replied to underpaidorphan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm getting soooo sick of seeing everytime a change to the morality system is proposed the deathmatch-cowd jumping in with their "oh noes! them carebears wants to kill peeveepee!!!1111" mantra when in fact nothing could be further from the truth. PvP is great, it's the very heart of DayZ. But the recent changes have turned an atmospheric, epic survival adventure into yet another mindless fragfest. For some this is cool, others would like to see more player interaction than lining someone up and pulling the trigger, followed by a "lololol nooob!11" in chat. -
God, please no. Let rocket do his thing. I'm pretty sure he's a go a decent idea of the development process.

Some Players Speed Slower Than Others?
ParaB replied to KungFuCharlie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've seen this problem only once so far, and that was with a friend who had performance issues due to outdated hardware. He ran at basically half speed compared to us. -
People Crying About This Game Being A Deathmatch!!!
ParaB replied to GrAnzSkY's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's not about "disabling the PvP". PvP is fine in DayZ and the mod would be rather boring without the threat posed by other players. But the lack of any incentive NOT to just kill another player on sight is seriously degrading the gameplay and resulting not in a creepy survival atmosphere but a post-apocalyptic battlefield where everyone just kills everyone, although nobody knows exactly why. Oh, except for the "because that's so real, dude!!111"-faction. Yeah, right... And that's simply feckin' boring to a lot of players who believe the actual interaction between players is the most interesting part of the game. -
Arent you tired of this (attacked through wall)
ParaB replied to trillz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I haven't been attacked through a wall in a long time. Just make it a habit to stand 2m away from every wall and you'll be fine. -
Fridge Logic; There is no Bandit - Thoughts on the 'Anti-Game'

I still haven't killed a single survivor in 3+ weeks of playing. Every encounter with a survivor that doesn't end in one of us dying is for me one of the highlights of the game. But I wonder how long that will still be possible. I personally really don't care much about dying, In fact, the 1st couple of hours spent scrounging together some decent equipment for a new char is for me the most fun part of the game. A lot of people do care though, and I see more and more people going the easy way of "shoot first". Simply because, "why not?".
-
The "kill on sight anything that moves"-mentality does hurt the game. It's not "I'm starving, I need his beans" or "he walked towards me, aiming his rifle at me", the reason why a (IMO) increasing part of the playerbase kills anything that moves is simply "why not?" My impression is that quite a lot new players are still rather hesitant when it comes to player killing, often trying to avoid combat and communicate instead. I wonder how much their playstyle will change after the 4th or 5th time someone gunned them down in cold blood. "Yeah, you gotta be more careful. Trust noone." I call that BS. I don't have to be careful. I just have to line up every guy I see and press the trigger. Because, why not?

Why should killing other players be a punishable act?
ParaB replied to Pat_the_Bunny's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Which is exactly the problem, because you can't. Bandits can (with the removal of bandit skins) hide behind perfect anonymity: no name tags, no unique player skins, server hopping, we're living in a world of anonymous clones where everyone looks exactly the same. If a bandit does indeed get himself into a troubling situation, he simply loggs off, joins a new server and starts his funny game again. How anyone can see no problem with this situation is beyond me. -
Why we need MANY more zombies... and in the wilderness too
ParaB replied to LondonHyena's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yep. I've never killed a survivor in three weeks of playing and usually try to avoid PvP. But I still think that PvP is an essential part of the mod. I wouldn't play it otherwise. I'd just like to see some consequences added for a player's actions and think it's pretty telling how the PKers will go to great lengths to defend their anonymous easymode KoS gameplay. -
WIRE abuse at barracks by griefers
ParaB replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Some people obviously have massive problems with their reading comprehension. Read the OP again. It's not about using wire to lock buildings. It's about using wire in a way that makes it impossible to vault over or remove due the placing of the wire and a clear exploit. -
I once spotted a bandit lying prone in a house, probably AFK at the moment. I plundered his ALICE pack, put everything I didn't need behind a bush outside and put a single, empty Whiskey bottle in his pack. Then I ran. ^^
-
I don't think bandits should suffer more punishment than actually wearing the outfit, which already puts them in a dangerous situation. They are a very important part of the game and it should stay that way. But my suggestions could help with coop play outside of RL friends/clans by making it much more "costly" to shoot someone in the back after grouping with them.
-
No. As has been mentioned, a game that forces you to play in order to not lose ingame progress is just horrible game design.

I've been playing for three weeks now, never killed a single survivor yet, shot 8 bandits. 4 in self defense after they opened fire on me or my group, 3 when they didn't answer in chat and seemed to have hostile intent, 1 because I just felt like it.
