Suggestion: Lower the food/water consuming rate
ParaB replied to whatup2003's topic in General Discussion
My current char has zero hunger/thirst problems. When I started I ran for the nearest source of water and drank as much as I could. Then i headed North. A day later he looks like this: Leave the coast and loot will be MUCH easer to find. By now I often actually leave food behind because I don't need it. -
Most important weapon for PvE: hatchet/machete/crowbar My favourite weapons for PvP: M14 AIM DMR M4A1 SD

My only problem with the xbow is that whenever I use one at least 50% of the arrows are not retrievable from Zs. Maybe I'm just unlucky but if I could retrieve arrows much more frequently I'd use the xbow a lot more.

To Everyone Complaining About 1.7.7
ParaB replied to NovaDose's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OP is missing the point. Many of us don't play deathmatch in Cherno or Electro but head North right after spawning. I have no problems getting decent equipment. But sooner or later a Z WILL hit me. Because he glitched through a wall. Spawned right on top of me. Teleports behind me. Or does any of the weird stuff DayZ zombies are known to do. You WILL get infected. And then it's GAME OVER. Simple as that. Play for more than 3-4 hrs and come back, saying infection is fine. I dare you.- 196 replies

What you guys think about the new update?
ParaB replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The moment you get infected you can basically stop playing. It's just not worth it trying to find antibiotics. Yesterday I did run from Stary Sobor where I got infected (hit through a tent) to the Berezino hospital. Then on to Electro. And on to Cherno, consumed vast amounts of cooked meat prolonging the suffering. Didn't find any antibiotics. Frustrated. Went to the beach, sat down and waited for death. It's as if god randomly dishes out headshots just for the heck of it. -

ParaB replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
After three days of playing with the latest patch I'm now convinced that the infection feature as implemented now is simply terrible game design. Due to the nature of DayZ's zombies (spawning, glitching, in general often erratic behaviour) it is inevitable that sooner or later you'll get hit,no matter how careful you are. And, depending on your luck, you WILL get infected. I've seen the very 1st Z to hit me infect me. Which, at the moment, means you're dead. Simple as that. In three days of playing (and dozens of deaths) I've found exactly 1(!) antibiotics. The chance of actually surviving an infection is basically zero. I understand the idea of making survival more difficult, and I support this idea, but the current implementation of infection just kills the fun of actually trying to survive. -

I'm not entirely sure what to think about the update... What there's no doubt about is that Zs are now definitely a threat to the player. They spawn everywhere, aggro quickly and their ability to infect players is nasty. And here's already my main gripe: players get infected way to easily and antibiotics are FAR to rare. Getting infected is basically a death sentence since you will need to consume food (which also spawns quite rarely) at VAST quantities to fight the blood loss. If you're not yet equipped for hunting you can as well run into a group of Zs and be done with it. Several times it happened to me that I got infected by 1-2 hits by the very first Zombie I encountered. Not fun. I -
Around 3k. I'd love to know how many blood tranfusions I've given over the last 4 months... ^^

I envy you. You must be pretty new to this whole "computer games" thing if Arma2 is the worst game you ever played. Soon you will realize how many games there are out there. Enjoy your newfound hobby.

Just a couple of days ago I spotted a group of three players. They opened fire, I returned fire and killed one, two logged off. One logged in 2 minutes later a bit further out and started firing at me from inside a house, the other logged in 10m behind me and killed me. DC'ing in combat and server hopping to gain tactical advantages is the no. 1 problem in the game and it's killing any kind of "serious", tactical PvP. I've been playing DayZ for three months now and slowly lose interest in the mod because of this very problem. Easy solution: implement a 20 seconds freeze timer whenever you log in AND off.

Harsh, but true.

Learn to aim for headshots. I still one-shot Zs with my revolver. Body shots shouldn't instantly kill a Z anyway.

Tom Berenger has a lot to answer for
ParaB replied to Gogster (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
IMO sniper rifles are FAR too common in DayZ. In my group basically everyone runs around with one in the backpack, and there are always a couple stashed in tents. Especially the 0.50cal rifles should be rare as hell. And not something you find at basically any heli wreck. I'd go even further and drastically reduce the spawn rates of basically ALL military weapons. Especially on deer stands. It's ridiculous how easy it is to obtain fully automatic weapons in the game. -
700k Players (almost) Reached today
ParaB replied to darkanima270's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I bought both Arma2 and OA as retail versions when originally released. Then I read about DayZ in early May and couldn't find both manuals (and CD codes) any more. After an evening of fruitless digging through 25+ years of gaming documentation I actually bought BOTH ArmA2 AND OA again on Steam. Only to find both original manuals approximately half an hour after the Steam purchase... I don't regret a single cent though. DayZ has given me more entertaining hours than at least the last half dozen full-price AAA titles I've bought this year. -

And I don't want to know how many of those 700.000 people bought ArmA2 and OA just for this mod. I guess rocket has earned a bit of a pay raise. :D -

What percentage of players you meet/engage Alt+F4?
ParaB replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For me, the DCing (and related serverhopping) should be absolute no.1 priority features to fix. The ability to instantly warp out of danger is killing the very core of the game. I don't care about new weapons and stuff, I really just want this fixed. Add a 20 seconds freeze/unconcious time on logging off and logging in and the problem is fixed. -

90%. -
DayZ should become a stand alone game using a different engine.
ParaB replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Do you guys have ANY idea about the amount of work needed to create something like the current map of Chernarus and all its content in a totally different game engine? >_< I always love those "why can't they just"-suggestions, coming from people with absolutely zero knowledge of the technical difficulties of game development... -
... implement a feature that prevents people to DC in combat. I'm not a dedicated player hunter/killer but I don't shy away from PvP, especially around the hot zones. But over the last couple of weeks I've noticed a trend that every single time I engage in PvP my opponents simply DC. When I started playing in early May I had plenty of epic shootouts with other survivors, and greatly enjoyed this aspect of DayZ. As it is right now, PvP is completely borked. I know: Alpha. That's cool, I know that rocket is working hard on this baby. Still: PvP and the player interaction is the very core of this game, and this core at the moment simply doesn't work as intended. I couldn't care less about vehicles, body temperature and bear traps as long as the PvP is just not fun. So pleaaaaase: implement something like a 20-second timer that freezes a player once he DCs from the game. AND a 20 second freeze on entering. Sounds harsh? Well, don't log off/in in the middle of Cherno or in the airfield barracks...

I've become attached to my gear.
ParaB replied to Daggo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're not alone. I remember the very 1st time I finally got top tier equipment. Barely logged in any more without buddies on TS. Went into full paranoia mode. Still got killed anyhow one day and after some raging and pondering the idea of never starting up this stupid game again I realized that it actually wasn't so bad after all. In a way, it's liberating. After 2+ months of playing (and numerous deaths) I now take more and more risks the longer I play and I actually enjoy starting over with nothing. And of course when you know what you're doing it's not that hard to get decent equipment in quite a short time. -
Some people still believe that the goal of DayZ is gathering the awesomnest loot and surviving for as long as possible. They're wrong. The goal of DayZ is to die in the most unfair, punishing and surprising way possible. Once you accept that you'll find inner peace.
