Ok, so all that seems to happen in this patch...
ParaB replied to Shiva_O's topic in General Discussion
Loots is abundant once you leave the coast. Guns, ammo, food, more stuff than I can carry. It's just that without Zs there is still no real point in playing DayZ. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
ParaB replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Which is kind of a problem in a zombie-themed survival game. I played for 2-3 hours today but without Zs the game has little appeal to me. Back in 6 months I guess. -
No, thanks. I don't want helicopters, tanks, jets, submarines or sharks with laser beams on their heads in my Z apocalypse game. This ain't ArmA.
-
For me the decision to KoS or not on an AF depends on whether you're armed or not. Against an armed stranger in such a high-risk area I take no chances.
-
You'll also see a "XXX is losing connection" message. I'm not a KoS player. But I kill every combat logger and server hopper I encounter. No sympathy for cheaters from me.

One other person on the server and he killed me
ParaB replied to tigersrule777's topic in General Discussion
I once met up with a couple of buddies on a basically empty server. We were 5 guys. In the middle of nowhere we suddenly ran into a 4-man group and face-shooting ensued. Result was 7 dead, 2 wounded. Total server population at that time: 9. -
Forced headbob for the sake of realism?
ParaB replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
No. If I were forced to play with that silly head-bobbin on I'd stop using 1st-person view and playing on hardcore servers. -
Same here. Started a char on a hardcore server a couple of days ago and much prefer the overall gameplay and interaction compared to regular servers.

Do you leave your morality at the door?
ParaB replied to tamingatche91's topic in General Discussion
I think it says a lot about you that you actually believe "many people" would do this. -
Do you leave your morality at the door?
ParaB replied to tamingatche91's topic in General Discussion
I'm a boyscout at heart. :( I simply can't act evil in a computer game. Or, to be more precise, I can't enjoy acting evil in a computer game. Not even in RPGs where only NPCs are involved. Sad, I know. Sometimes I get killed for being "too nice". I don't care though. I simply won't let other players dictate a play style to me I don't enjoy. -
I'm currently using SKS+PU as main and a sawed-off shotgun when in buildings. Works very well for me. Not having to go to military installations to replenish ammo greatly improves survivability.

The most underrated City on the Map
ParaB replied to Gandalf the White (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Svetlojarsk ist good, but as others have already pointed out performance is pretty bad there. I like doing runs in the "golden triangle", Berezino->Krasnostav->NEAF->Svetlojarsk but currently due to the spawns all being on the E coast the NE isn't as quite and peaceful as it once was. -
Devs, forget features, just focus on stability & release date.
ParaB replied to luzarius's topic in General Discussion
I love it when people who obviously have absolutely no idea about software development post stuff like "...why don't you just...". -
Please, please, please, with sugar on top... ...give us the option to suicide or respawn, at least while the game is still in a rather buggy alpha version. I was just playing on a hardcore server. New char, made my way North. Suddenly, while standing inside a building my car fell over. No Z nearby, no shot heard, I'm not bleeding. Just my legs somehow got broken. While walking into a table. Now I'm in the middle of nowhere, with broken legs. No Zs around to kill me, no players. No high building to jump down from. All buildings nearby are, of course, already looted. This sucks.
-
I understand the problem that a suicide option might be abused for cherry-picking spawn points. But I'm sure this could be circumvented by some kind of timer. E.g. suicide is disabled for the first 30 minutes of a char's life. Once we'll see a more polished build with less bugs I'd have no problems getting rid off the suicide option again. But with the current alpha stage a suicide option is IMO an absolute must. Oh, and don't start a discussion about "realism". I mean how often do you break your legs while walking in a house, or climbing a ladder? ;)

This fascinating revelation was well worth such a thoughtful and interesting thread.

The Current Combat Log System Dosen't Work
ParaB replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
Timer is working fine. OP fails to understand basic feature. Move along. -
The nature of public hives effectively destroy the challenge of surviving.
ParaB replied to froggan's topic in General Discussion
Once the game is finished I can't see myself playing on hive servers. The first time I witnessed an enemy player log out, switch to another server, get behind us, then log in again on our server was enough to convince me that the hive server infrastructure was utterly broken. -
Ok. I'm starting to think that you are deliberately obtuse here. It's not a problem of DayZ. It's a problem of our screens unable to render a human-sized object at greater distances due to the limits of resolution and field of view. To put it simple: the greater your FoV in game the less pixels you have to render a given object. At some point the game engine cannot render an object anymore because the pixel itself would be bigger than the actual object. In order to realistically simulate the human eye you have to reduce FoV to the point where you can still render distant objects the way the human eye would display them. This is the "zoomed in" view in DayZ. The "normal" view is basically a wide angle view that offers greater FoV at the cost of reduced details at distance. Sorry, but I really can't explain it any better.
-
You fail to understand the issue again. Please do some research about field of vision, screen resolutions and drawing distance in computer games.

Had just completed an epic, 3-evening tour of Chernarus across the whole map. Visited the ship wreck. Somehow managed to run through a railing and drop to my death, right in front of a survivor without any equipment. Who probably thought it was Christmas with fully kitted-out chars falling from the skies...

Multiply number of Zombies on a server by a factor of 20. Decrease number of spawned ammo by 90% /profit
-
The B95 is a good weapon for close-medium range, especially if you have a speedloader or two. Unfortunately at this range it's in direct competition with the SKS, which IMO is the better, more flexible weapon due to higher ammo load and scope.
-
It's not "zoom" as in "magnification". As has been pointed out already the zoomed in view represents what the human eye actually sees. Due to the constraints of a computer screen this translates into a narrow field of view. Since playing a game exclusively with such a narrow FoW would be highly uncomfortable we get a "zoomed out" view to compensate for the limits of our hardware. Unless we all play with triple-screen PC setups these are the limitations we'll have to endure.

5.56mm ammo is easy to find at military installations. Full 20, 30, 40 and 60 round mags galore. SKS ammo OTOH comes only in batches of maximum 20. And the full auto M4 is probably in much higher demand than the SKS. In the last two weeks e.g. I've seen plenty of SKS lying around, but all in all maybe two M4s.
