    DayZ Standalone Modding Discussion

I hope not. My reasoning is based on how DayZ mod ended up. By giving extra tools, the ambition of the game withers away. Granting DayZ mod servers the ability to customise and in effect, modify their servers i.e . granting everyone an M4A1 and top loot, the mod was ruined. I hate how it deviated away from the very original. Maybe I'm saging, but the draw of DayZ is how raw it is. If you find good loot, you can often become risk averse and play more conservatively and this makes for interesting dynamics. By giving people the ability to customise and modify, you slowly but surely eradicate this dynamic. I rather the developers just concentrate on building the game before anyone is entitled any form of ability to modify or customise, so we can have a stable platform to play. I fear modifications at any stage during alpha and even beta would destabilise DayZ and alas, make it more difficult to identify and fix.

    Dayz doesn't launch

You're lucky you get error codes, I don't. £20 this cost me, over a year into development and there's continuous strands of error. I'm starting to think the development team are taking us for a ride and having a laugh along the way.

    Starting Gear.. sucks.

Because the mod has been engineered away from survival to full on PvP with the odd zombie. I personally blame those <17 I honestly hope the SA version will remove that.
  4. Lol, your statutory rights are not effected by bans.

    DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

Options - game options - head bob (adjust accordingly). Already implemented.
  6. Exactly the same shit as I'm going through, except I never put the virus in the vault :(
  7. Got back earlier from a grueling 12 hour shift at work, but felt I needed some chill time. I logged on to steam to start ArmA 2:OA Beta, but it said "missing executable". So I uninstalled, then reinstalled. But to no avail, done this 3 times. It is now saying there was an error updating it "disk read error". I've ran out of ideas on how to fix this. I hate steam.
  8. Essentially this. I also think the engine doesn't help, and the lack of understanding what 'beta' and 'sandbox' means.

    Why do YOU love DayZ?

I'm sure there has been this kind of thread before, but sod it. Let's make a thread of our own personal reasons as to why we love this mod. Rules: 1) NO MOANING, whether that be about glitches, engine problems, hackers, bandits or whatever. Make your own thread about moaning. 2) No essays, let's keep this minimal. A paragraph isn't bad, but essays become TL;DR. 3) Give me your beans, just do it. No questions asked. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My reason(s) 1) This mod has tapped into everyone's Zombie Apocalyptic dream; a free-for-all, no rules with unlimited amount of scenarios. Name me one game that has done this before? 2) The mod is free (this is not including the standalone, which is considerably cheap anyway). All you had to do was purchase ArmA: OA then download the free. (I personally love the ArmA series, so have ArmA:CO) I didn't really play ArmA before DayZ, but having spent £25 on the combined operations, I gave the game a shot. And I love it, so you're getting 3 games in one package with continuous support from BIS and the community. Top stuff! 3) DayZ is BRUTAL, I have never found a game in which I have been apprehensive about meeting other players. I personally feel an attachment to my loot, I worked for that stuff. The idea of knowing I could be killed any moment for my stuff is both exciting and nerve-racking. You really have to make decisions. 4) The standalone version is looking good, and I for one am glad Rocket et al have decided to delay release to ensure the end product is as polished as possible. The video they just released was awesome, I cannot wait for it. All this has paid off, and the franchise can only get bigger. 5) Expect the unexpected, I often come across scenarios I'd be surprised. I made a thread a few weeks ago about me needlessly killing a survivor then facing the consequences of having a group of survivors teaming up to kill me. They did not rage, or complain. Instead, they formulated a plot to find me then kill me. What's your reasons, DayZers
  10. But DEVS DO LIE! LOOK AT THE RELEASE OF STANDALONE loljk.
  11. I wouldn't mind seeing rocket without his trousers. No homo.
  12. Hey fellow players, My younger brother finally saved up enough cash to buy his own low-budget gaming rig, powerful enough to play DayZ, so I've bought him via steam ArmA 2: CO so we can chill together on the game when I ship off to university. But the issue is steam (FAO of everyone: I fu@king hate steam, always have) It keeps saying after verification of cache integrity '1 file was not verified....must be reacquired'. Now, I've tried uninstalling, re-installing...run as admin etc. I just don't know what to do now, but it's bugging me. And now my opinion of Steam is now a fierce hatred.

ITT: STEAM PROBLEM! (Installation of ArmA 2: CO

Thank you, upon deepening my google searches, found multiple solutions and running through them now. Feel a little silly coming here after 5 minutes of google...

Anyways I can improve game play with these specs?

I know ArmA 2 has always been an CPU intensive simulator, so that would be the thing I'd pay attention to. I get good frame rates out of my i5 650 but I am looking to upgrade that myself.

    My DayZ review

That's it guys, I am avoiding this game. I hate it when Eastern European environments don't use English..
  16. Why hello there, a number of things. 1) I've been trying to connect to multiple servers, but instead of taking me to the lobby. It takes me to the start menu of Arma 2: listen single player, multipler etc etc. No idea why, was working earlier. Why is it doing this? 2) It doesn't seem to be able to find any servers other than Chernarus, it's frustrating, as I wouldn't mind trying out 2017, DayZ + or playing a different map. Any one have any idea wtf is going on?
  17. Hi all, first of all - I don't normally kill people on sight, I was just bored the other night on a server I've forgotten the name off. Anyway, to the story. It was twilight, and zombies didn't seem to be spawning in Elektro. So I thought I'd simply go and loot then trott of to the wilderness. I went into the supermarket to get some food and water, when I came across another player. He was minding his own business but he picked up the only can of beans in the building. So I shot him, he respawned then warned other players of me - so at this point, I thought everyone is now fair game. I think I killed about 3 others, possibly one unarmed (Sorry!), but nonetheless; people were angry. And rightly so, which is when about 6-8 of them teamed up and to hunt me down. At this point, I was at the fire station to the north of the city to find any ammo I could, I found an M4A1...but no mags, so decided to head back to the fire station to the west of the city. VOOLAH! 2 Stanag mags, awesome. I decided now to start sneaking, zeds begun respawning, and there was quite a lot in my vicinity. So I crawled to the school. At this moment, I had no idea where to angry mob was, but only knew they were in the city looking for me, ready to hang, draw then quarter. I was getting some M1911 mag clips on the ground floor when the first shot was fired - it missed, but it was close, so I ran upstairs into one of the class rooms. Another shot fired, but must of been a wild shot, as it was no where near me. At this point, I decided to get ready for a firefight. It was beginning to get dark, and the zeds were already being aggro'd and running around outside, but I just could not tell if the vigilante squad was waiting for me to exit then kill me, or if they were entering the building. Well, they were doing both. Half the group were on top of the hospital opposite (from my view, 3 or 4 of them) and the rest could be heard on direct comms telling me about how they're going to kill me. I fired randomly, hoping the sound of an automatic weapon would scare them. It appears it did, as they were no longer heard in the building. But instead, I could hear the sound of smoke grenades. Yes, I was right. And they threw a few around the building so almost every zombie within 100m surrounded the building. I was thinking, do I go out guns blazing and risk being shot or eaten? Or stand my ground? I decided to go out guns blazing, attracting atleast 15 zombies to chase me. I was running around for atleast 5 minutes. It must have been funny to watch from the hospital, but nonetheless. I was caught up by the zombies, one hit broke a leg and I was bleeding. I inevitably fell unconscious and the zombies munched on me like a feast. Moral of the story: Don't piss off an organised group, and try to avoid running in circles from zombies. Karma's a bitch.
  18. I wish I could figure out why my PC hates fraps, I would have recorded it. Listening to direct comms was hilarious. The whole event was made better by the fact no one raged when they were killed, instead it was an instant "Let's find this arsehole", I sure won't be doing that again. And by that, I mean running 'n' shootin'. Survivors can get kicks out of a decent firefight. Just a shame it never evolved into said firefight. Due to my selfishness and pseudo-suicide bid. And cheers for the beans, if the forums were like ingame, I'd give you a salute.

    Should zombies only walk ?

But the inspiration doesn't come from the walking dead, so that's out the window.

    Should zombies only walk ?

If I remember likely, Rocket was inspired by 28 days later. Go watch that, then realise how terrifying the idea of running infected is. The very fact they run intensifies the game incredibly, in a city you can't simply run everywhere, too many Zeds and the possibility of being killed by another player makes sneaking vital. You'd take away the stealth and intensity that this game has strived to create, and inevitably make the game boring.

    Standalone Poll: First Person Only?

Disable 'alt' for the ability to look around whilst in 3P. I use 3P when I'm in the open, in towns and buildings. 1P becomes useful

    Adding DayZ mod to PS3

Oh god no, the last thing we want is a 'consolisation' of this game. It would be so watered down, it just wouldn't be the same. The 'you can add a keyboard to a ps3' is such a daft argument as it completely ignores the already intensive hardware usage is PC users must put up with (that's not a negative thing, BTW). Arma already requires a powerful CPU to run, not something the consoles can deliver. I also think if the game is to be ported to a console, then you MUST purchase Arma 2: OA and Arma 2 to play the standalone, as many of us had to do on the PC version. 1) it would be unfair on PC users if consoles got it cheaper. 2) more income for BIS = more badass games in the future 3) I dislike consoles. (Not a valid point, just my opinion xD)
  23. The whole concept of this game is to be anti-social. It's not really the type of game you log on to play to chill, as there's constant suspense. You're not meant to live an infinite life, you will die and you'll probably die sooner. It is down to the player to change how they adapt in-game, don't cry because you're dying quickly then run to the forum and say it needs to change. Those that are surviving the most are searching for groups online to play with, perhaps you should do the same.
