    The DayZ GuideZ Master List

Keep in mind that pretty much all of these are are less than a couple minutes, I will make a note of any longer ones if you want to make sure you have time before watching them. Please let me know of any broken links, or missing videos. I'm subbed to Guidez, so I'll try and have any new videos I see him post up as soon as possible. A big thanks to Guidez for putting all these together for Day Z players. Installation and Set-up (About 8 Minutes) (About 5 Minutes) Location-Specific Guides (About 40 Minutes) Inventory and Controls Weapons M107 Tools and Deployable Items Medical Supplies and Survival (Chupisco's noble sacrifice shall not be forgotten) Vehicles

    The DayZ GuideZ Master List

Those are put-in by YouTube*. Bandwidth isn't free, you know.*I assume they are, anyway. I have yet to upload a video myself, so I don't know what all it involves, but I'm pretty sure that the ads are put-in by default.

    How is thirst/hunger calculated?

If you full-on sprint (standing up and running), it'll consume food/water faster, but I guess I don't know how by how much. Over-all though, unless you're really hurting on food/water supplies, you don't need to worry about it.

    The DayZ GuideZ Master List

No prob. Half of what I know about the game was from those videos (the other half having been somehow cobbled together from before you started doing them). Just a question of whether or not the mods are willing to sticky this.

    The DayZ GuideZ Master List

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, so imagine how many words a video is worth. And it isn't so much that people don't want to write anything anymore (in fact, a lot of guides will read from a script they wrote ahead of time) as it is that people are more likely to watch a video than to read a bunch of text.

    The DayZ GuideZ Master List

    *Bump*
  7. Or shoot, at least lie about it. Because on hind sight, it was clearly Chuck Norris, and definitely not a girl. Edit: In fact, anytime I tell a story about how I got killed from now on, Chuck Norris did it. Maybe Clint Eastwood.
  8. And replace the ATV with Unicorns! You repair them with magical horseshoes instead of tires, and instead of gasoline you feed them Skittles (because everyone knows that Unicorns are powered by rainbows).
  9. Unless the devs themselves are contributing to the wiki, there's no guarantee of accuracy to that page. It's entirely likely that you can get knocked-out by a zombie at any health level, and it just becomes more likely as blood gets lower; even the point where above 9k it's so rare that people testing the mechanic just never happened to get knocked out unless they were below 9k, and just assumed that was the limit.
  10. If you can't handle the idea of the game being buggy/laggy because of its alpha status, then wait until final release. Private hives counter-act the biggest part of why he went live with the alpha in the first place. Just because you're too lazy/can't be bothered to use the forums to meet-up with people to play the game with isn't a fault of Rocket's hive.
  11. Yes, but how much of that boost in sales did Rocket actually get? Rocket's paycheck is for his work on Arma 3 (and/or any other games BIS assigns him to work on). Day Z is not a BIS game, it's something Rocket does with his free time. Thus, it doesn't earn him a paycheck.

As long as I didn't hack it in right?

No, "basically" you won't be globally banned by Battle Eye, but you CAN get banned locally if the server admins see you using the hacked gun. If you have a gun that you know was hacked, use it strictly at your own risk knowing that someone might catch you with it and ban you (and no, they won't ask, nor care, if you hacked it or found it).
  13. Because the main reason why Rocket put the game into an open alpha was to test HIS hive and see how it could handle capacity. The more people playing on private hives, the fewer people who are using Rocket's hive, and thus the less data he has on what it can handle.
  14. Because heaven forbid that a game which is developed on a person's free time and doesn't earn a paycheck isn't moving forward with the speed and force of a bullet train.
  15. Maybe you just don't know anything about programming. It is a LOT easier to say "we're working on fixing this" than it is to actually fix it, especially since some bugs can be hard to fix without causing other (possibly worse) bugs. Heck, World of Warcraft is over 5 years old, but it still has a couple of (minor) bugs from Day One; is it because the devs are too lazy to fix them? No, it's because in fixing the bugs they noticed that other, much worse and very hard to fix bugs were caused ("very hard" in this case meaning "damn-near reprogramming the entire game"). So, rather than have programmers completely rewrite something that took 4 years of development time to write the first time around for things that maybe less than 0.001% of the player base will even notice, they just left the bugs in there. Now granted, the vanishing items bug in Day Z is far from a "minor" bug, the point of my anecdote wasn't to imply that it isn't a big deal, the point was to explain that it can take a LOT of effort to fix a bug, and that's after already taking a lot of effort to find what's causing it in the first place. For all we know, they still haven't figured out why items are disappearing, or maybe they have but it's a very hard fix, or maybe it'll be easy to fix but cause other nastier bugs, or maybe it's a problem of the core game and thus not something that can be patched out until the game goes stand-alone. All I can tell you is that it's a known issue, which means that we've done all the talking about it that needs to be done. If it was something easy to find and fix, it would already be fixed. The developers have nothing to gain from not fixing something on purpose.

Add Armor Just Like in Skyrim!

Yeah, no kidding. While I don't recall Morrowind's or Oblivion's UI off-hand, I do know that I was never so perplexed trying to sort through my inventory like I have been in Skyrim. But then, what can you expect from a UI that was clearly optimized for consoles?

My rant on why DayZ is getting worse

I am sorry, but that's an exploit. Nothing will EVER make the players not feel the need to exploit. People exploit in EVERY game when they can get away with it. The answer isn't to pander to the exploiters, the answer is to punish people who play the game in exploitative ways. The key difference here is that the light levels were an actual problem with the game, and the devs acknowledged and fixed it. People Alt-F4ing will always exist regardless of what "fixes" they implement. Here's the kicker, though; I can guarantee that people are still exploiting the gamma settings despite the legitimate reason for doing so being removed. Just like people will always exploit Alt-F4 if there's no punishment. Now, I'll grant you this much: I don't know how you get the zed aggro. Maybe it's a problem with the zed AI (I honestly haven't played in a while, because there's dragons to be slain, and they tend to not visit Chernarus often), or maybe you're just a clumsy player. In the first case I can certainly understand how it would get frustrating; honestly, that's part of why I stopped playing right after the 1.7.2 patch, because I got sick of the way that one or more zed would just magically aggro onto you because of some quirk in their AI that the patch caused (well, that and dragons). However, an exploit is still an exploit, even if there's an understandable reason to do it.

Add Armor Just Like in Skyrim!

Regardless of whether or not this is a good idea (but it kinda isn't), it was killed the instant you likened it to a fantasy game.
  19. WhiteTigerShiro

Come on Rocket, you can do better than that....

It's amazing how someone can jump through all the hoops you have to jump through to get Day Z running properly, and still be dumb enough to not realize that it's a mod which runs through another game.
  20. No way to know. From what I understand, cars and tents can be kinda buggy. So it might have gotten eaten by server gremlins, or someone might have stolen it.
  21. I generally let unarmed people go their separate way. If they stick around me too much though, I'll take them down just on principle.
  22. WhiteTigerShiro

Why you should NEVER trust anyone in DayZ

I'd have probably shot you, too, just on principle.

Hatchets as a secondary weapon (pistol slot)

If you fuck-up so badly that you have more than a couple of zeds running at you, you run. You are NOT going to be able to drop 4 zeds before they do significant damage to you; worse yet, if there's a chance of them knocking you out, holding your ground against 4 zeds will get you killed. So yeah, if I'm fighting one or two zeds, Axe is an amazing (and quiet) way to kill them without any problem; if I'm fighting 3 or more zeds? Fuck it, I'm legging it to that hill or building to ditch them; or at least whittle their numbers down so that I can axe the one or two that I don't lose. And let's just say that I'm a dumbass who does try and hold his ground against 4 zeds instead of running; now that I'm done killing them with the axe, I'm done. Bandage up, chomp-down some meat, and I'm good to go. Meanwhile, you have fun with the 4 or 5 extra zeds that your gunfire drew-in; oh and btw you're still bleeding from the first group, so you can either start running (while bleeding), or hold your ground and pray to whatever god you pray to that they don't get a knock-out. So yeah, Axe as a secondary would trump all pistols, because handling zeds is the only reason anyone would use a pistol.
  24. WhiteTigerShiro

Worth it to carry second primary?

Agreed. Sidearms are pretty much only for Zed control, since primary ammo is too scarce (for the good weapons) to be worth wasting on them.

Don't blame the bandits, blame the victims.

*Yawn* Well, clearly I'm not part of this discussion, so I'll see myself out.
