Bandit/Survivor Skins- WE NEED THEM BACK
WhiteTigerShiro replied to The Headshrinker's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's easy to tell who's a Bandit and who isn't. Step 1: Load-up TF2. Step 2: Join a team. Step 3: Shoot at people who aren't wearing the same color as you. Problem solved. Heck, it even has the convenience of removing friendly fire so you don't need to worry about accidentally hurting your teammates. Edit: And I thought-up this reply before looking at the second page, so it's total coincidence that I posted this right after someone posted a shot of Gaben. ;P -
Why not: Church bells could aggro Zeds?
WhiteTigerShiro replied to bogroll (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's also worth noting that churches really aren't worth the risk of having 20+ zeds all come charging inside at once. They have a chance at some decent stuff, sure, but nothing worth the kind of risk that this topic is talking about. Maybe if this was a "Zombies randomly charge NW Airfield" or something, then yeah, sure. But churches? I barely visit them as it is. -
Why not: Church bells could aggro Zeds?
WhiteTigerShiro replied to bogroll (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Suggested before, and the conclusion people came to was that since the bells ring so often (think every 20 or 30 minutes), the zeds are just kinda used to it by now. -

Incentive for not being a bandit?
WhiteTigerShiro replied to Marvel (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Alright, alright, gimme a sec and I'll go fish-up my copy-paste reply that I got sick of having to type-up for every "Nerf PvP" topic. And yes, whether you like it or not, this is a topic about nerfing PvP. Anyway... "This game isn't about having a force-fed karma system. If you want to be a "good survivor", then it's purely for your own sake. The game does not, nor is it meant to, give a fuck about how "good or evil" you're being. So yeah, of course this means it's going to be easier to be a bandit. That's just life. If you want a karma system that makes sure that both the good and bad options are equally rewarding, go play Mass Effect; go play an Elderscrolls game; go play Fallout*. Go play one of dozens of games out there with artificially-infused karma systems. Day Z is not about forced morality for the sake of arbitrary rewards attached to a given play-style. This game is about survival. If your lives are part of what's keeping the average life span down to only 30 minutes, then you aren't a good survivor." Edit: I really should give that quote a look-over and reformat it a little for as often as I have to throw it around on the Suggestions Forums that might as well have the description of "Come here to whine about the PvP and post your terrible ideas for how we can "fix" the problem that doesn't exist." This game is completely about surviving. You claim that "Killing other players is the main goal right now, surviving became the second one", but that completely misses the point of the last sentence in my reply that I just quoted. Survival always has been, and still is, the number one goal in this game. But here's the problem; if I see another player and he sees me, my survival has just been jeopardized. Trying to talk to him is just a needless risk that could end-up causing me to fail at my primary goal of staying alive. Now, if I see signs of him being friendly; sure, I might take the risk. Though even then I'd prefer that him and I just agree to back away from each other and forget that we saw each other. I simply don't know who I'm talking to or when his motives will suddenly shift from "cooperation" to "I don't need this other guy anymore". And if he doesn't make it 100% clear that he's friendly, I'm going to put him down as soon as I know he sees me. Otherwise I'm content to just stay hidden, let him assume he's alone in the town or field (or where-ever our paths cross) and have him just go about his business while I turn around and head somewhere else. Also... Fucking brilliant. I'm gonna have to remember that video. And I agree entirely. The only time I've seen people be appalled by language is from people who are entirely too innocent (usually older people), or people who want to act all high-and-mighty because they know that cursing is an easy target for elevating yourself above someone because it's generally seen as "vulgar". To the people in the latter group, I say "fuck that". Edit: I really should look that quote over and edit it a little, maybe. Make it a little more general and less aimed specifically at the poster of the topic where I originally posted it. -
Nope! Nuh-uh! I don't care if this is life or death!
WhiteTigerShiro posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am NOT drinking that can of Pepsi, I'll just hold-out for the chance that some Coke will be in the next building. Yuck! Also, I refuse to loot Sardines. Anyone else picky about what they'll survive on, despite the zombies all banging on the front door and the sniping bandit camped in the woods out back? -
Why would I keep a diary of this? I guess you could suggest that books be in the game so people can type-in whatever they want; but you shouldn't be forced to keep track of shit that you wouldn't care to keep track of.

Food, Hunger, and hunting ... oh my!
WhiteTigerShiro replied to cMeFragU's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ignoring the infinite stamina, your character is VERY active. Yes, you CAN survive for up to 2 weeks without any food, but not with the amount of activity your character engages in. Besides, food is too easy to come by as it is. Even at the current "too fast" rate of hunger I still have to leave behind large amounts of food because I already have more than enough to survive into the foreseeable future, and as soon as I eat a can it gets replaced very quickly. And this is WITH me being very picky about what I'll eat and drink, mind. ;P -
Looking for a partner forum
WhiteTigerShiro replied to Survivor-Kyle's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
http://dayzmod.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=12 People should try actually looking around the forums before suggesting a board that already exists. -
It's because people are camping them outside the boundaries of the map, this is getting fixed, soon.
-
That depends entirely on the server. Though yeah, any "serious" server wouldn't be effected by people adding stuff to your name.
-
Step 1: Find a Boat. (Should be easy, as you claim them to be plentiful) Step 2: Head to a remote island, especially if there's one with no lootable buildings. Step 3: Pitch tent, store loot. Step 4: Have your gear about as "safely" stored as it's gonna be.

Hang on, gimme a second to dig-up that reply I typed, because it fits in here almost as perfectly as for the topic I posted it in. Edit: There it is: "This game isn't about having a force-fed karma system. If you want to be a "good survivor", then it's purely for your own sake. The game does not, nor is it meant to, give a fuck about how "good or evil" you're being. So yeah, of course this means it's going to be easier to be a bandit. That's just life. This game is about survival. If your lives are part of what's keeping the average life span down to only 30 minutes, then you aren't a good survivor. As for "no society", there's only no society because you choose to let there be no society. Plenty of players have banded together for the sake of helping each other out; for the sake of griefing other people; even for the sake of helping others. There's plenty of society in Day Z, it isn't Day Z's nor Rocket's fault if you choose to specifically stick to lone wolf gameplay. If you want society, get friends to play the game, or head to the Survivor HQ forum that's in place specifically for other players to team-up. What you shouldn't do is propose that Day Z be re-tooled into something it was never meant to be just to suit to your own personal play-style. *Just for the record, I love all the games listed, not bashing on them in any way, shape, or form. Just saying that Day Z isn't going for the same style of system that these games use. So if you want that kind of system in place, go play those games." This is especially true if you suggest we implement some pop-up menu that prevents me from attacking someone. If someone fires on me, I don't want to get killed because I was busy clicking on a "yes" option to fight back against someone. -

There's no melee combat system in Arma 2, and it'd be way too complicated to have to program one in. And yes, I know, there's a hatchet and crowbar; those are kinda jury-rigged in. From what I understand, they're basically "guns" that fire "bullets" which only travel about 5 feet.

You can already retrieve crossbow bolts.

Possible solution to vehicle curb hording
WhiteTigerShiro replied to shcipwa's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The other day a friend and I went down to the car shop to pick-up parts for my car, and wouldn't you know it, no matter how hard we tried, the part I bought just would NOT go into his car. Even though the box was small enough to fit in my lap, anytime I got into the car it would just pop right outside. We weren't sure what magical force was keeping the part from being held in his car, but ultimately I had to walk the part to my car because of this strange occurrence. Or to put it more bluntly, no. This idea is never happening. -
It depends on the state of the virus. Note that the zombies in this game aren't risen dead, simply infected humans (a la 28 Days Later). So depending on whether or not the survivors are supposed to be immune or if there's a way for them to be infected, I don't know. That said, if they can be infected, I think it'd be a decent bonus. Maybe a 5% chance (maybe lower if it turns out that running around from town-to-town spawning zombies is too efficient) of any zombie being a survivor. When spawned, they'd have a 90% chance of having a lootable Coyote Pack, or a 10% chance divided-up between the higher-storage packs (maybe even a 1% chance of the coveted Coyote Backpack?). On top of that, they'd have a chance of having a couple other things, like meds or ammo, maybe even a small chance at a weapon. Basically like walking Deer Stands. ;)

Way to spend zero time reading the forums. Rocket already plans to make this game go stand-alone. It's in alpha right now, aka very unfinished.

So someone attacks me, I kill him in self defense, then when you meet me you gun me down because you think I'm a PKing asshole. Yeah, such a great idea.

A realistic way to balance PvP
WhiteTigerShiro replied to ewokz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I love this delusion you have that personal insults do anything to help your side of the argument. If anything you're going to sway people to disagree with you since few people will jump-in to support a person who acts like a 2nd grader. So you admit that there's a way to meet and group-up with people, yet you stubbornly refuse to make use of it. Also, you claim that grouping up is a losing strategy, yet all these people complaining about bandits are soloists. Meanwhile people who group-up either get ignored by a solo bandit, or get attacked but are able to retaliate. Talk about losing. Gee, you mean that a person working alone is going to have a harder time than people who group-up? Maybe that's part of the idea of this game? If you want to survive better, find a group of people to play with. If you feel that grouping with other people is a "losing strategy", well, come back to me after you've been killed 5 or 6 more times with no support to kill the offending player (or prevent him from attacking in the first place) and let me know how well your "winning" strategy is working-out for you. -
