Nope, find an Axe/Hatchet. These are much more common, almost every industrial area seems to have one somewhere. To equip it as a weapon, click G to open inventory, right click on the hatchet in the toolbelt and select "Remove from toolbelt". The hatchet will be moved to your primary weapon slot.

Being shot while disconnected because you live in Australia and have bad ADSL sync doesn't sound very equitable and would generate a fair amount of rage. I do have a suggestion that might stop you being shot in the back by someone re-positioning themselves. The central server records which game server the character was last on. If they drop out they can reconnect to that same server in the same place, otherwise they have to wait 10 min before they can connect to a different server. This would give you a 20 min safety window from someone who tries to re-position themselves. As for the the cowards, leave em be. Fight someone who's not afraid to bring a hatchet to a gun fight.
