    some ideas for realistic-ness

    Given that weapon cleaning kits are ingame, and that it is an alpha, I'd assume an in depth weapon condition system is in the works

    How to make the map more engaging.

    1 thing I would say is, all these are fine, but on a bigger map, adding all of them would make the map feel way too small [too full?] with barely any distance from town to town/base etc. Another point of note is, this is Chernarus, not America, it's not as well developed, massive viaducts over valleys and the like just wouldn't exist in a country that doesn't have anything bigger than single lane regional roads. Same logic can be applied to nuclear powerplants.

    Booby Trap your Gear?

    They've already said booby trapping of gear is a no go, it's completely indiscriminate and overpowered for want of a better word. Land mines and beartraps that reset on server wipe could be possible though.

    Dayz Top 5 Kills

    None of them were even remotely special, all average kills, sniping in DayZ is easy as piss atm, no wind, just minor drop with easy zero scope.

    Just like the ballistics in ACE mod, I've been suggesting they add something like this since the mod, this how to balance sniping and make the game more interesting, thanks for posting this.

    Reskin the Russian Calibers

    We don't need all of those ammo types, out of that list just x54R, x51, x39 and x25 would do with maybe .30-06 or .303 to cover western hunting rifles or something, that's all the 7.62s needed, 1 of them is pistol cal, people aren't going to be mixing up their rounds after a week of playing, those who do don't deserve to succeed in DayZ, it's a 'survival' horror MMO after all.

    I was really looking forward to the sporter [based off the 10/22 a very, very customizable weapon IRL] and was disappointed when it was added, with terrible weapon sounds, no attachment options and completely unrealistic damage.

    How to stop server hopping.

    1000 meters is a bit excessive, if in a built up area spawn with a 500m radius of its outskirts, if in the wilderness spawn 100m from where you logged out seems fair.

    Weapon Preferences

    They're far from it, I find them much more useful in close quarters than my main unless my main is an AK or M4 etc. I got a fairly long range kill with a Magnum today which really rebuilt my confidence with pistols. As a side note this is not a great poll it leaves out a lot of primaries, ideal loadout is a CR527 and any 9mm/380 pistol [P1, CR75, Makarov] or the magnum

    Status Report - Week of 25 August 14

    Most of the killing in game atm is done from 0-10 meters, the last 6 people I killed were either point blank or from no further than the length of a hospital. Sniping with the Mosin has actually gotten quite difficult since they got rid of bipods and increased sway. What the game needs now is for combat to take place between 100 and 400 meters. Firefights at those ranges are what the Arma/dayz series does best. That said I don't want to see any focus on sniping until a system where you can properly steady your weapon, but are affect by wind/spindrift etc. like in ACE II mod for arma.

    the T shirt that survivors wear under their t shirt is stupid, and spawning with 4 slot trousers makes all the smaller trousers not worth taking.

    Absolutely cannot stand 3rd person camera wall peeking, especially when you consider how good arma/dayzs 1st person cam is.

    Hospitals need to be expanded, they're just disappointing atm, 3 downstairs rooms, a stairs and a corridor about 6 meters long.

    Nuclear area

    I don't think a nuclear plant is the way to go, maybe a large border post complex in the far Northwest of the map which was hit with VX [remains in the area for a long time, used as an area denial weapon] in an effort to stop the infected getting out, the contaminated area could cover a few square km and have maybe a village, a border post and some military stuff perhaps. Skin contact with VX is lethal so a full NBC suit would be required, and a suit puncture, ie a gunshot or possibly a zombie hit would mean exposure to the gas.

    Tie katanas into a bigger picture, atm we have those little shops on the townhouses with the red doors etc that spawn like, anothing from shotgun shells to rotten kiwis, how about a variety in the shops, there could be hunting stores with knives, camo gear, fishing supplies and maybe ammo for civ weaponry, and such, you see where im going with this, one of those shady shops that sells all sorts of sharp things, katanas, english billhooks, morningstars

    Given that it is an early access alpha, enabling the respawn function for players with broken legs is a no brainer.

    Reconsider the AK-74 and 5.45x39

    It's not even like the community is asking for every calibre under the sun. Civilian weapons come in many different calibres, often designed around the weapon firing them, these weapons can be given a general ammo type, so for example, take Bolt action hunting rifles, one might fire a 7.92, one a .308 and one a .30-06 all rounds that perform rather simialrly as far as a video game is concerned, so simply stick them all in as .308s, then add 2 more large rifle rounds, 1 for western mil, 7.62x51 and 1 for russian mil, 7.62x54r [mosin rounds] do pretty much the same thing with all other weapon classes, 5.45 and 5.56 are all that's needed for ARs, add in a russian 9mm round [.380 is a stupid cop out, who cares if people confuse 9mm makarov for 9mmP, let them learn the hard way, this is dayz, it doesn't hold the player's hand] for russian pistols and call it a day on the calibre debate. The devs have asked for the community contribute to the development process via feedback, why are they so reluctant to deal with all the backlash over calibres, If modders can add every calibre under the sun [and weapons to go with] to arma 2, it can't be too difficult to add no more than 6 new ones to the SA.
