DAYZ:SA Zombies becoming real threat - ideas
OTehNoes replied to VooDooator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
They're still people, just infected and driven to madness, pump them full of bullets and they'll die like anybody else. -
I do very much like this suggestion, would definitely add variety to the game. Maybe a player could only become a zombie if they've been hit by a zombie first before they are close to death, so there was a chance that the player has actually received the infection. It could also mean that there is a rare chance that you'd find a zombie that is an absolute gold mine (as people with good gear are less likely to die than people with less gear). Only problem I see though is that the zombies now use a different skeleton to the players, so how the transformation would work I'm not sure...

I can't say I had much of a problem with the current system. As said before you'd probably die before you use all the matches, or at least have come across more. Even a small box would have 50 odd matches in, larger ones maybe up to 100-200. I can't say in one life I've ever lit more than one fire, and for many people it'd probably be a similar case. In what it'd take to implement this they could add something more useful that more people would agree upon. I get what you're saying but it seems a bit unnecessary imo.

Yeah was very weird, but the footsteps in the invisible water and breathing was still a clenching moment D:

Well after reading a few of your stories I decided to go investigate green mountain at night (I know right?). Was very weird as when I got there, there wasn't a single zombie to be seen walking up to the gates, and it was eerily quiet. I carefully opened the gate with my M4A3 ready lighting up the area in front of me, mainly the mass grave and the wrecked vehicles. I paused for a moment, can't remember why but I hit esc, I think I was fiddling with my graphic settings or something when out of my peripheral vision I saw something that made my heart skip a beat. Stood just behind the rubble to the left of the gate on the inside of the compound, stood a completely unarmed, all black except for headwear, Bandit. All I saw was his pale white head just stood there, staring at me. Instantly I swung the M4 around and pointed it at them, to absolutely no response. As I moved around keeping my gun trained on his head, he didn't seem to be looking at me, just where I was sat just past the opening of the gates. At this point I was shaking, adrenaline was rushing. I called out over DC to see what was going on. Absolutely no response, and I was growing ever the more weary about how quiet it had gotten. I figured something was strange as they were just stood there, unarmed. It was the creepiest thing, why would a normal player go that far out with absolutely nothing, not even a backpack, just to stand there? I freaked out and shot him dead. With hindsight I wish I'd taken a screenshot of it, and actually went back after to take a shot of the body but it was gone. Next I walked cautiously into the radio tower, the corridor going in made my heart sink and the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I engaged combat pace and carefully stepped forwards with my rifle ready. Just as I hit the ladder I heard the wind pick up breaking the silence, and the unmistakable but familiar sound of a zombie loitering outside. I checked the tower but there was no decent loot so I made my way out. This was one strange occurrence, but later another VERY strange thing happened. I was just North of Cherno at the small substation (056 124 I think..) and was heading south down the dirt road towards the barn and then Cherno. As I passed through a small hollow between two trees I heard a strange low pitched but quite faint thud, followed by an unknown growl of some sort. This spooked me towards the barn so I quickly made my way towards it, check it for loot, again with my rifle at the ready, but there was nothing out of the ordinary there, just a few walkers and mundane loot. This is where things got weird, and I have a screenshot to back it up too as I didn't want to make the same mistake as before, which I can get on request, I'm not on my gaming PC right now. There was a PBX, just sat at the side of the road. Just, sat there, there isn't any water for at least 2 miles, the coast a few miles south, no nearby lakes or ponds. Seeing it this far inland both confused me and unnerved me. But that's not the creepy part. As I got nearer to it I could hear the sound of the sea, waves moving gently and crashing. That's odd, but this is what really creeped me out. As I stood next to the stranded boat, I could hear slow distant footsteps in water accompanied with laboured breath, quiet at first but very quickly grew louder as it seemed to get closer. NOPENOPENOPE.dxf With my hands shaking and heart pounding I sprinted full pelt back to Cherno, I didn't care if anybody saw me, it was night time anyway so I was relatively safe in the cover of night and I was absolutely terrified. I sprinted all the way back, through the dark woodland, into the city and logged in a small residential. That was my first and second creepy experiences on DayZ, I don't think they're linked but both left me pretty shook up. So if ever you're in the middle of the country and you see a boat and you can hear the sea, I don't know what happens if you were to stick around but I don't want to find out either.

I don't think its an intentional feature, its just a bug. I'm sure it will be fixed.

Will certainly add tension! -
Balancing DayZ SA series Part 1: traversing the dayz world
OTehNoes replied to alanford's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I hope so. Cars aren't particularly hard to operate, but helicopters are, and in the zombie apocalypse not many people should be able to just jump into a helicopter and go, so that should make things more interesting. Could be tense starting up a chopper in a rush though! -

Vehicle wear would be a little tedious. Surely if you an repair a broken engine to the point of functioning again (not an easy task) then surely you'd have done a good enough job that it lasts? If they were to wear it should be over a very long period of time. Perhaps if you used that system they should wear on a scale that from everything being fully repaired, it'll need fixing again within 5,000 in game miles. This sounds like a lot, and it is, but cars do get used a lot once they are working and they're going to be bumped into things, other people stealing them etc so that would come along a bit sooner than you'd think anyway. -
Balancing DayZ SA series Part 3: loot mechanics

I think you need to watch the Standalone Dev Diaries dude. Don't get me wrong you're making some good points! It's just many of them have already been shown in the dev diaries and are already implemented as far as I'm aware. For example you actually have to look for loot now, it won't just be in neat piles on the floor, it can be in cupboards, fridges, ovens, behind them, under beds etc. Its also in cars both on seats and in the boot. -

Evidently somebody hasn't been watching the dev diaries. In the standalone, its been said that you can find ammunition separate of magazines. So you can find a glock magazine and an M9 magazine say, but its the same ammunition, but you have to load it into the magazines individually. This means ammo can be swapped between guns provided they use the same ammo and you have the correct magazines, so you can move 5.56 from a STANAG mag to say a G36 mag, or 9mm from an MP5 mag to an M9 (I'm pretty sure its the same casing between those anyway). -
I've found you have to change two files in your addons folder in order to play the version of SP that I have anyway, which corrupts your DayZ file (only a 6mb download in commander to fix it again) but my point is if it does anything to your game, when you redownload DayZ its automatically undone as far as I'm aware..
-
It'll probably stay multiplayer only, I mean the SP is kinda fun but not having to worry about other players does take away from the experience. Granted the SP version does have NPC replacements with random gear and you have no idea which are friendly and which aren't, but it still isn't the same.

Random but VERY rare Meteor Showers
OTehNoes replied to ZappingZombies's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This pretty stupid idea has given me another idea though, how about being able to actually witness helicopter crash sites happening? Like have the helicopter spawn out to sea, fly inland then crash down to the ground where it then becomes the crash sites that we know? Or even extremely rarely, like, 1 in 2,000,000 chance of happening, a C130J crashing down somewhere in a similar manner? And then the Chinese gymnastics team could bail out in parachutes and entertain the survivors. And then they could have maybe the same spawn script as barracks or other high value military buildings but have many loot spawns that can increase the chance of them spawning some good guns around? -
Yeah I mean whilst Daizy does come with cheats, I just used it to give myself some basic gear and do what I can't in most online servers which is just go around and have a bit of a zombie hunt to myself. Saying that, went to green mountain and some creepy shit went down p_p

I recently downloaded DayZ SP and it is great fun, to make it part of commander would be good but as far as I'm aware that isn't up to the DayZ devs, not to mention you have to change some addon files for Daizy which means DayZ doesn't work, unless you keep duplicated of your addons folder, one for Daizy, one for DayZ, which you alternate when you want to play one or the other.

Encouraging Cooperation Among Players
OTehNoes replied to Pvtwilhelm's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I can kinda see what OP is getting at but to say the AS50 is overpowered is a bit daft. Doesn't matter where that thing hits you, you're pretty much done. Headshot > No head left Centre mass > Chest cavity displaced > More or less instant death Arms > No arms > Massive bleeding Legs > No legs > Massive bleeding Whatever happens, dead or not you're definitely not going to be putting up a fight any more, and on DayZ incapacitation during a fire fight may as well be death in most cases. -
My thoughts exactly. This is what I think when I see people in side chat saying "anyone want a firefight in cherno?" Why? If you want a gun fight go play ArmA 2! Banditry is different but just straight up asking people if they want a gun fight is just daft in my eyes. If you want a deathmatch, go play ArmA 2/3.

I do like the idea, maybe the option to cover the windows so the light isn't as visible from the outside, but still smoke from chimneys?

[3D model] Different Food Qualities (3/29 Update)
OTehNoes replied to joeyslucky22's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the idea but I already have trouble finding food and drink at times, I don't want it to be even harder. Not to mention tinned food is designed to last, and the tins would have to be very dented before they began to corrode at all. Also I think it would encourage hoarding... I do however like the idea of custom food logos! -

Not sure if its already been suggested but being able to find military clothing. You can find military weapons and there are barracks, it doesn't seem out of the question that there could be military clothing/gear lying around! Make them fairly rare obviously, maybe as much so as current camo clothing/ghillie suits but enough so that with perseverance you could get fully kitted out like the current soldier clothing. And maybe variation in the military clothing, maybe have a British style helmet, US, CDF, Russian etc, and repeat for every possible item of clothing, much like how ArmA 3's clothing system works at the moment? -
Standalone - Map ideas, Horror Aspects & Special Infected.
OTehNoes replied to koze's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oh so apparently I have a DayZ Forum account! As for topic, adding more to the horror aspect of the game is an absolutely fantastic idea! After all is the game not supposed to be a survival horror? Zombies are supposed to be scary anyway, and I can't say I find DayZ zombies particularly scary (especially when you shoot them and hear a voice with a heavy Slovak accent say "FAK DAT HURTS"). When you said haunted areas, you made me think of the Dunwich building in Fallout 3, in a game that isn't supposed to be particularly scary, that was pretty damned creepy. Blood everywhere, skeletons and bodies around, hallucinations/ghosts. Something like this in DayZ that only happened in certain areas at night would be really cool, maybe certain wooded areas will become extra foggy at night. And I reckon would also encourage more people to play night time servers more as I've noticed many servers are day time only, and the ones that have the rotation tend to be empty for the most part. On the special infected, I do very much like the idea and I like that you've stayed away from L4D. The sneaky zombie shouldn't be too hard to make as it could just use the stealth profiles that the ArmA 2 NPC's use (only an idea). Alternatively maybe take a leaf out of Dead Island's book, have variety in the zombies such as regular walker that shuffles along quite slowly but are relentless in following you unless you get very far away, but then occasionally what they had as "infected" where it was basically a healthy human body with the infection, so they are able to run very fast and hit harder than the slower zombies when aggro'd.
