Took a break from Dayz - Is everyone still running around with AS50'S?

A server I currently play in has completely removed the AS50, but kept the M107 in spawn tables. That way its easier to pick the hackers out too, given that 95% of hackers usually just give themselves an AS50 and ghillie straight off the bat. -

Just for the record, snipers aren't overpowered at all, a sniper is a deadly adversary to cross in a warzone, and 9/10 times will beat you in a long range fight. But that's not to say its hard to beat one, if you can determine the rough direction of shots its usually pretty easy to track a would-be sniper down. And that's the thing, there are few snipers on DayZ, many sharpshooters, but few snipers. -

I don't think we should compare ArmA to GoW for gore, seeing as Gears equates a shotgun at 1m into the entire body being turned into potato sized flesh chunks. However I do think gore along the lines of OFP would be cool, things like an explosive going off nearby will turn you into pink mist, shotguns/rifles at close range cause massive bodily trauma, and headshots mutilate the head. -
DayZ Standalone, Freelook, Third Person

I do greatly agree with the downside TPV produces, but the only problem I have with FPV is that you just don't have the spacial awareness that you would realistically have, the third person view allows you to have a more realistic FOV and better/more realistic spacial awareness. -
I can think of two things kind of on the subject, the first being days survived shouldn't increase when you aren't playing on the server, it should be only in game playing time. Secondly I think improvements like aiming recovery from running should gradually reduce if you run a lot. Lets face it, if you run a lot, its gonna be crazy good cardiovascular exercise, the more you did it, the faster you'd be able to recover as you'd be less out of breath!

You're looking at it the wrong way. I've had so many times I wish I could have a better line of sight on a place but my view is obscured by one obnoxious tree. And most of us have lost a chopper to trees on slight inclines :( If tree's fell down, you'd have to be a jackass of colossal proportions to play lumberjack whilst trying to be stealthy.

I'm quoting a book a bit here but the way I see DayZ is, in terms of people, there are very few snipers, many sharpshooters and random gunmen, but few snipers, and the difference is in the use of fieldcraft. If I can, I will always take an M24 over a DMR for two reasons: 1. The M24 is zeroable 2. It isn't semi automatic, there is much more pressure to hit on the first shot, rather than just spamming the target to pieces. As for ease of use, let me bring 4 rifles by memory to your attention: DMR, M24, M107 and AS50. What do they all have in common? A bipod. With a properly zeroed scope and a bipod, with a gun like those, I see no reason why you couldn't easily hit a stationary target a 500m. Granted the availability of said guns is questionable, their usage (at least on the DMR and M24) shouldn't be in question. As for weight issues, again for the DMR and M24, I see no reason why you couldn't hold that in a sling on your back whilst holding another rifle, it really isn't hard at all. -

This. I used to panic like crazy when I got chased by zombies, now I just know if you keep moving they're harmless, players are now my only obstacle, and 9/10 times they're just gonna try and kill you anyway. The problem is that survival is too easy, once you figure out how to get around the zombies, players become your only problem. The standalone will fix this I hope as persistent zombies will make spotting players from afar much harder, as lets face it, if you're walking into say Cherno/Elektro/Berez from a high point and can see zombies further than 200m from you, chances are there's a player down there, and so you're on full caution going down, when zombies are everywhere, your only defence against players are your own wits and senses. Making food and drink less common, as well as ammo should surely make survival more difficult, and reduce PvP, as whilst I have nothing wrong with people shooting each other, I know some people do play DayZ like a deathmatch, which does annoy me. If survival becomes more difficult, having a friend or partner should make survival a little easier. But don't think I'm saying make PvP impossible, or survival on your own a non viable method, just more so make it more tempting to maybe conserve your ammo in the hope that the guy you didn't just kill may share some food/ammo with you, and help you find more. As at the moment, the mindset is probably more, "I'm going to kill this guy, as I can just run into that small house over there and probably find another 3 mags for my Enfield as well as a load of food and drinks, he is only an obstacle".

I remember finding my first crash site on the big field on the north side of Mogilevka, M14 AIM (or Ep1 as it was known back then ;) ), FN FAL ANPV-S4 and 2 PP-19's. Unfortunately I had a terrible PC back then and couldn't really play, but it was still exciting! I was stoked when I found my first DMR, M24 and M4A3 CCO though, there's something that just feels awesome about going into the barracks, seeing a gun at the far side, and seeing its something awesome as you get close, and not just a damn M1014.

Yeah I've seen the odd one or two person with it, much like the soldier skin there's no normal way to get it.

I think if I saw a little girl NPC on DayZ being chased by a crowd of zombies I'd laugh my ass off. But no, no NPC's, what I like about DayZ is that if you see another person, DayZ is a very psychological game, having NPC's would take away from it for me.

The Fallout system only really works on a single player platform, as it means it only has many potential areas, but only has to load one at a time. Move it to multiplayer however and it means all of those places have to be active at once as each one essentially counts as it own map, the server would have to essentially run loads of maps at once, which would actually put more strain on the server.

Yeah this system is way too exploitable, not to mention unrealistic. Besides, loot respawns anyway! So even if the good areas get looted, when the server restarts some just as good loot could be there.
