You need to be able to abort certain animations...I have been killed while gutting an animal before. Totally unable to stop what I was going and powerless to react... Also, trying to go prone and your character suddenly runs forward and sort of dives into prone...while you are on a roof...You see it happening, you desperately try to pull back, but you can do nothing but watch as your survivor dives face first off the top of an apartment building...lol :/
  2. This happening yesterday made me think that this could be a cool origin story for DayZ...A meteor explodes in the atmosphere and some form of alien bacterial infection that effects cognitive functioning is released into the air... Although, contaminated meat illegally put into the food chain could also be a more down to earth origin...Still culturally relevant at the moment.
  3. How about this then? :D I actually think I heard another game is using this as their premise, can't remember which upcoming game though... A form of BSE (mad cow disease) could be very plausible, but I think that was the premise from ZombieLand, but still a good one.

If I had this set up.... 1st person would be the shit!

Agreed. If it was one or the other, I'd have to say lock it to 1st person as 3rd person does give an awareness advantage...but then again, 1st person allows you to move your head and increase FoV... Ideally the choice of both, determined by the server would be best. The only issue with 3rd person is that it allows you to see around corners, or over walls etc. It's completely a PvP issue, but for those of us that don't shoot on sight and aren't bandits, it's not so much of an issue. I guess it would let us avoid being spotted by people that do kill on sight and are bandits...if you could argue that that was an unfair advantage, given that we are already at an extreme disadvantage from a survival point of view... So yeah, probably best to have the option for both and leave it up to the server admins. There are quite distinct, different play styles that both 3rd and 1st person cater to I guess. It isn't entirely clear cut.

    Exactly! It's preposterous!! :P

Damn...I hope there will still be servers that allow 3rd-1st person switching...I liked travelling in 3rd person and switching to 1st person iron sights with a right-click when aiming. Does this mean that this way of playing won't work any more?

Ah...Make love, not warcraft...That episode saved me from ever trying WoW as I learnt everything I needed to know about it from Southpark. Also, all of these changes sound great, but they also make the standalone seem very far off in the distance...

    Alternative Creepy Music for DayZ

If anyone wants to use these pieces on their custom DayZ maps, servers, or even if it might be considered as part of a community update for the mod, just let me know. I'd be happy to contribute. :)

Because of the new loot spawning system, will it be possible to actually hide/stash loot in buildings wherever we want? It would be cool if there was for example, a cabinet, or chest, in a house, or a car boot on a wreck that had a set of keys in it, and you could stash gear in it, lock it, then hide the keys somewhere...like under a flower pot outside a house, or under the seat of a car wreck... Or, safes with combination locks...Or Chests with combination padlocks. Any or all of these could be really handy features to have.

It looks great! :) I kind of hope that the fonts and menu they are using are just placeholders though. They could definitely use a bit more style.

What I was wondering was this...If Valve and the L4D devs are advising them and helping them set up the Steam side of things, is there a chance that they are also being helped with stuff like infected path finding, AI path finding, animations, gibbing zombies, melee combat...chainsaws... That could be pretty awesome. Even if they aren't helping them to that extent, having the people behind l4d helping you has to be a good thing! ;)

Sounds great...also sounds a long way away...
  17. Now that Ivan and Martin are back (and hopefully getting adjusted to their freedom), I'm hoping that they can offer some assistance and guidance to Dean in regards to the standalone. I say, if it isn't up to scratch, don't release it. The bitches will whine at the delay, but it will be nothing like their bitching if you deliver it and it falls below expectations. Just remember, all we really want is something stable, that addresses the major issues of the mod, with a decent degree of polish, and most of all, fun to play. Everything else can be added in later by update.
  18. I think that there should be a weight system connected to food...So if you drink more soda, eat less healthy food, or just eat a lot, you get fat, possibly even sick...If you only eat the bare minimum, you start to look gaunt and skinny. If you hunt, cook and eat animals on a regular basis, as well as being physically active, you become leaner and more muscular. Possibly even gain a physical/stamina advantage over players that go solely for processed/convenience foods and get less exercise. Also, water holes could be contaminated by dead bodies, animal and infected corpses, making water sources potentially dangerous, or even as traps that make people sick and require medical attention... Of course, there would need to be signs that the water was contaminated, to make things fair. Water sources could be valuable resources.
  19. Will we have the ability to jump in the standalone? My spacebar gets lonely when I play DayZ...

Ivan & Martin Free on bail

I'm not ashamed to admit that I welled up a bit (with very manly tears of joy) at this news. That's great! :)
  22. I can't wait to run around with no pants on shouting "I'm friendly! Friendly!!" over the mic at strangers...Fun times :P
  23. Did someone steal that guys pants?

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

Because if there is a stable, much less buggy version of DayZ, with much more content, that is easy to install, update etc. they would sell a ton more copies and it would shut up the majority of the naysayers....Releasing DayS SA is WIN/WIN for Bohemia.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

I was also wondering that, but at the end of the day, it is product placement for the companies, so if they don't give permission, they are the ones that are losing out at the end of the day... Actually, in a perfect world, they would be paying Rocket for product placement.
