Because of the new loot spawning system, will it be possible to actually hide/stash loot in buildings wherever we want? It would be cool if there was for example, a cabinet, or chest, in a house, or a car boot on a wreck that had a set of keys in it, and you could stash gear in it, lock it, then hide the keys somewhere...like under a flower pot outside a house, or under the seat of a car wreck... Or, safes with combination locks...Or Chests with combination padlocks. Any or all of these could be really handy features to have.

It looks great! :) I kind of hope that the fonts and menu they are using are just placeholders though. They could definitely use a bit more style.

Watched this earlier and it was excellent! Really captured the essence of the gameplay!

I am a warlock...The wind blows where I tell it to! :P Or maybe it is just all the beans I have been eating...

What I was wondering was this...If Valve and the L4D devs are advising them and helping them set up the Steam side of things, is there a chance that they are also being helped with stuff like infected path finding, AI path finding, animations, gibbing zombies, melee combat...chainsaws... That could be pretty awesome. Even if they aren't helping them to that extent, having the people behind l4d helping you has to be a good thing! ;)

Sounds great...also sounds a long way away...

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
soapmak3r replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Now that Ivan and Martin are back (and hopefully getting adjusted to their freedom), I'm hoping that they can offer some assistance and guidance to Dean in regards to the standalone. I say, if it isn't up to scratch, don't release it. The bitches will whine at the delay, but it will be nothing like their bitching if you deliver it and it falls below expectations. Just remember, all we really want is something stable, that addresses the major issues of the mod, with a decent degree of polish, and most of all, fun to play. Everything else can be added in later by update. -
Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?

I think that there should be a weight system connected to food...So if you drink more soda, eat less healthy food, or just eat a lot, you get fat, possibly even sick...If you only eat the bare minimum, you start to look gaunt and skinny. If you hunt, cook and eat animals on a regular basis, as well as being physically active, you become leaner and more muscular. Possibly even gain a physical/stamina advantage over players that go solely for processed/convenience foods and get less exercise. Also, water holes could be contaminated by dead bodies, animal and infected corpses, making water sources potentially dangerous, or even as traps that make people sick and require medical attention... Of course, there would need to be signs that the water was contaminated, to make things fair. Water sources could be valuable resources. -

Will we have the ability to jump in the standalone? My spacebar gets lonely when I play DayZ... -
This picture makes me happy. :)

I'm not ashamed to admit that I welled up a bit (with very manly tears of joy) at this news. That's great! :)

Did someone steal that guys pants? -
Because if there is a stable, much less buggy version of DayZ, with much more content, that is easy to install, update etc. they would sell a ton more copies and it would shut up the majority of the naysayers....Releasing DayS SA is WIN/WIN for Bohemia.
-
I was also wondering that, but at the end of the day, it is product placement for the companies, so if they don't give permission, they are the ones that are losing out at the end of the day... Actually, in a perfect world, they would be paying Rocket for product placement.

You don't sell an 'incomplete game' on Steam. My understanding is that DayZ 'foundation' is technically going to be a complete, and stable release (as stable as a PC release can be, in reality). Think of Team Fortress 2 for example. The game we have now is pretty much nothing like the game that I played back in the beta, but the initial release was an extremely enjoyable, and complete game in itself. Then they added tons of new content/maps and expanded on it based on feedback from the community. I use TF2 as an example, but I haven't played it since they introduced hats, trading and a virtual economy as I didn't like the direction it took. They could just release the standalone as 'DayZ' and then patch in new content when it is ready and that would be perfect. As long as the biggest issues with the mod are addressed, it will be all good. By 'biggest issues' I mean, hacking, duping, lack of enterable buildings, and zombies glitching through walls etc. In time, I'd love to see much greater character customization (something as extensive as APB Reloaded, or Eve Online would be amazing!). I'd also love to see bushcrafting, bases, much more depth to the survival aspect. What I want DayZ to be (and what I think Rocket wants DayZ to be) is a survival training simulator. Something that teaches the player practical, real world skills and knowledge. Anyway, sorry for the large post, but those are my thoughts on things. I'm really looking forward to the release of DayZ, and I hope that Rocket understands that what he is making is genuinely worth making, regardless of all the twats he has unwittingly attracted. :)

Dear Rocket and DayZ dev team, I'd absolutely love to eventually see a revamped version of the Seattle map from Take on helicopters converted to work with DayZ...That would be epic. :)

After what can only be described as the complete and utter fiasco that has happened with the release of...The game that shall not be named...I am happy to wait, and everyone else should be too. Buy a couple of new games on the Steam sales. Play a couple of games that you have been neglecting to pass the time. Let Rocket and Co. get the SA into a proper state to release it on Steam. Then when it releases, we can all murder each other senselessly with joy in our hearts... :P

Great to see that myspace Tom supports DayZ! :)
-
A DayZ 'Survivor Pack' would be an awesome idea. Maybe options for a 4, 6, and an 8 pack. To give people a variety of options and possible discounts.
-
Rocket shouldn't have to apologise or explain why it is going to be on Steam...It's the obvious, and best choice.
-
I just had the thought that it would be completely awesome if it was like Dead Rising 2 and you could dress up in old ladies dresses and women's clothing...that was always hilarious... Imagine if you were entering a city to loot it and you saw some dude running around in a flowery bonnet and dress! Too freaking funny...
-
I think that thermal binoculars would be cool...but I am not fussed on a thermal scoped weapon as I am not a player killer. I always liked the L85 for scouting, but never fired the thing. I always used an M4A1 for shooting, preferably the silenced one.

What you have said makes literally no sense... For me, the only difference between retail and Steam is that I don't have to have the disk in the drive to play the game...And usually that is enough of a reason for me to choose Steam. There is literally zero performance hit from choosing Steam. The fact is, Steam is less hassle because you don't have to find the disk, then wait for disk confirmation before games load.

Announcements have been very quiet recently... Is a November release still on the cards, or is it possible that it's being pushed back to December now, or even the new year due to holidays/family obligations etc.? I'd love to see it come out this month. It's literally the only upcoming game I have any interest in, but I fully understand if it is delayed. It sounds like there are a lot of major changes from the mod. :)
