Yes, because gamers are well known for their reasoning ability and calm, sensible demeanour.

Exactly. In all likelihood the alpha release is going to be an absolute cluster-fuck and probably horribly broken for most people. The servers will inevitably buckle and crash under the strain of desperate players that can't wait to play. The performance will be sub-par. The bugs will be many and varied. And the people that have bitched and whined for the alpha release will bitch and whine even harder about all of the above... I am not being a cynic. I am being a realist. I will still be there at zero hour...In my prom dress, with my balaclava and armed only with zip ties...

The character models and clothes are looking really great! I hope that I can wear a balaclava and a pretty prom dress while running around armed only with zip ties...It's all about creating your own stories, yeah?

Here's my theory...The mods popularity steam-rolled out of control...Dean and BiS decided it would be a good idea to release DayZ as it's own game...After initially setting out to just solve the glaring problems of the mod, WarZ pushed out a massive turd that left them with a chronic anal fissure...Dean and BiS decided that a chronic anal fissure wasn't for them...That shit stings! Literally! So, they then set out to make the best possible version of DayZ SA that they could and have done away with setting public deadlines or trying to meet the public's unrealistic expectations... Because it is painfully obvious to anyone with even a little experience in PC gaming that you cannot please the most vocal, whiny element of the PC gaming community as they will always find something to bitch about online, so it's best to not even try to please them. Fuck those assholes! So...Aye...Fuck it...It'll come out when it comes out, and I will pick it up.

Oh really? I missed that...Recently I discovered Copella - Apple and Mango juice and I do believe it is the best tasting juice to have ever passed my lips... I also love melons...but that is getting off the topic ;)

And they call heterosexual people (mostly likely) a homosexual, apparently as some form of an insult... Fun fact: It was recently confirmed in a scientific study that racism and homophobia are linked to low intelligence. ;)

Batman Arkham Origins comes out on Friday, and so does Deus Ex HR directors cut...So I am gonna be fairly well catered for as far as gaming goes for a decent time... Though...If DayZ SA comes out, I may have to put them on the back-burner for a while ;)

What is BIS's position on 'DayZ - Origins' and 'Gamers Platoon' and how they have threatened legal action against people for using 'their' copyrighted assets? And that they are apparently making money from 'Origins'. I tried their version of the mod a while back and it was even buggier than the official version, but they apear to have a small army of people promoting it and hyping it up to get people on board and playing it... Didn't gamers platoon back and promote WarZ as an alternative to DayZ when WarZ was first announced and released? Then they bailed as soon as it's name was mud... Opportunistic turn coats...It appears. PC Gamer are promoting it and 'Origins' folk appear to be downvoting any critcism that it gets... http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/10/16/dayz-origins-mod-update-1-7-7-adds-new-i-am-legend-inspired-area-and-er-ghosts/

So...It's been over 1 year now since the SA was announced and scheduled for a December 2012 release. It's been over a year since I have played the mod as well...Here I was was in my naivety thinking it would be a short and worthy wait, that would fix the major hacking problem, and hopefully stop the zombies glitching through solid objects...That all I was really looking for in the alpha...I think that is all anyone was really looking for... I did go back briefly and try to play a newer version/variation of the mod, but it just seemed horribly clunky and broken and I couldn't get past that, and then went back to resolving to just wait for DayZ SA. I really hope that they can deliver something with a decent degree of polish. I've been playing the early access for State of Decay lately and have actually been surprised by the level of polish it has and how much fun it is for a game made by what seemed to be a small development studio. I hope that Rocket and co. can pull off whatever it is they are doing with the SA, and that I haven't waited all of this time for a clunky, broken, unpolished turd of a game...I think I am becoming cynical in my old age though.

When I was playing the mod, I would play with friends and we would play for survival, not to kill people...We would help people if possible, avoid contact or even being detected by other groups if possible, and if conflict was unavoidable, we would avenge our fallen friends or go down trying...First and foremost it was about survival and exploration for us. The problem as I see it is that nearly all of the popular people in the youtube community making DayZ videos just kill everyone they see that isn't in their little clique...They may have helped popularize the game, but they also conditioned people to play the game in a certain way. The whole survivor games thing perpetuated this mentality as well...It's all about the killing. Kill, kill, kill... And now these people are closed alpha testers? In my mind they are not playing in the spirit of the game, and if that is the spirit of the game, then I don't think it is the rough assed diamond that I saw so much potential in while I was playing. The main reason that I stopped playing the mod last Sept (besides the announcement of the SA being released in Dec....) was because of a few things... 1. Hacking. 2. KoS PvP mentality. 3. The goal for most experienced players was 'get geared up, then go PvPing in player hotspots'. 4, Item duping which facilitated the 'get geared up and go PvPing' high stakes deathmatch (though nothing really to lose) mentality. I have no idea what qualified the reddit guys to be closed alpha testers either because I don't use reddit, but if the alpha doesn't live up to my expectations as a survival simulation then I don't see myself sticking around very long. I've already gotten to the point where I don't really even care when dev blogs come out (or don't, as is usually the case).

For accuracy it should be renamed "No dev-blog Friday" or "The Increasingly elusive devblog" or "The devblog is a lie"...

There you go fellas...A direct quote from a tester and a mod of the forums! :P

Looking forward to the new information.

I composed a bunch of creepy musical compositions a while back and people seemed to like them. With some encouragement, I submitted them to be a part of a community update for the mod, but never heard back from them. Since then, people have approached me and asked if they can download and use the music in their DayZ videos and I said "Sure". Here they are if anyone else would like to use them. All I'm asking is that you give me proper credit and link to my soundcloud/youtube music page. Soundcloud sets (with download enabled) Set 1 Set 2 Youtube videos roughly demonstrating their use: Cheers! Also, if enough people wanted to hear more, I'd be happy to create them. Composing creepy assed music is a lot of fun! ;)

DayZ has taught me to become a Zen master in the art of patience. It has also taught me not to be so attached to things, like games...and tins of beans.

I realise that it is probably pointless suggesting this here, but I don't get reddit or twitter at all, so I will share my thoughts here... It is about the new animations. They are overly stiff and lack any sense of fluidity. For example, when a character is sprinting and they suddenly change direction or come to a stop, you would expect their centre of balance to shift, for them to put their foot out in front of them as they stop, to skid slightly, to shift their weight as they changed direction. As for infected...When they lunge like they currently do, you would expect them to tumble, fall flat on their face, roll etc. I've noticed a few times where there are a few infected lunging at the character at the same time and it results in walking a few steps, get hit, stop, start, walk a few steps, get hit, stop, start...etc. It got old just watching it. Playing with that is going to get really old, really quickly. I'm really not a fan of the lunging infected at all. A perfectly fit person would have a hard enough time catching up to and lunging on top of a sprinting person just the once, never mind repeatedly.

Couple of questions... Did they show any melee combat during E3? Did they mention anything about the time-frame for the alpha release on Steam?
-
After watching the demo videos...I'm not fussed on the diving infected at all...Everything else seems cool, besides the clipping, hit-detection and that kind of thing. Watching gameplay trailers at E3 for upcoming games I can't help but think "Wow, imagine if DayZ was based in this engine and had this amount of resources available to it! Imagine what it could be like in terms of production value and polish!" Then my next thought is "DayZ will likely offer a much deeper and much more satisfying experience than any of these games even if it doesn't look as pretty...what a waste of resources and talent!" Have they shown any melee combat yet? I'm interested in seeing that. All in all I am still very interested in playing SA, but side by side with all of these games touting new, shiny engines, if I am being honest, it doesn't fare well in comparison.

As far as I understand it, it means that all of the items and infected spawning is handled by the server...Which means that hacking and duping items will be much harder to do, so we should see a lot less of it. If done right, it should pretty much cripple the hackers/cheaters (I hope). -

Here's my 'constructive criticism'...Looking at the new inventory screen, I am reminded of Stardock's Fences, which is a program that I love. All it needs is a better font, and maybe some colours than aren't just primary. What would be extra cool would be a customizable UI for the inventory so we could choose the colour scheme, level of opacity etc. or, the ability for people to mod the inventory UI.
