DayZ 1.7.2 Stuck on Loading Screen..
soapmak3r replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I got it working by downloading and installing the latest ARMA2 patch. Then I had to go through the installation steps of the mod again. Then update the mod. Now it works fine. If you haven't tried that. Do. -
The solution is simple enough. They need to give everyone a fairly equal footing, regardless of where they spawn. Why do you think people respawn so often? Because there in most other spawn locations, there are no lootable buildings, or it is even just wilderness for miles etc. That is why people respawn over and over. Also, other than the notification in the bottom left, it doesn't effect you at all, so I'm not sure why you are whining about it.

Are you sure that isn't a problem with the server not being properly updated? There are so many different servers running different versions right now that it is a massive cluster f**k for everyone... The server owners need to sort it out and have the latest ARMA2 and DayZ patch running. It seems like most don't.

Here's what I had to do to get my Steam version working... I had to verify the integrity of the game cache in Steam and redownload 2 files. Then I had to start ARMA2, then exit Then start Combined operations, then exit. Then replace the ARMA2CO.exe with the one from the expansion/beta folder Then update the DayZ beta files to the latest using the DayZupdater. Then I was able to join servers again.

Yes. I agree with all points OP. The spawning could definitely be a lot more logical. It's kind of absurd at the moment.
-
Not meaning to sound too cheeky, but did you take a survey? If that is the case, maybe it is because there are only 2 repeating tracks at the moment, which I am guessing are more or less just placeholders...Like a lot of the stuff in the game so far.

Ok guys, I edited the music onto some gameplay footage if anyone fancies having a watch/listen. DayZ - Creepy, ambient music ideas - Part 1 DayZ - Creepy, ambient music ideas - Part 2 ps. love the new forum layout and added features! Good stuff! :)

Sometimes being 'poor' is a blessing...We have much less to worry about and much less to lose.

The main issue is that people disconnect as soon as a shot is fired, or they are spotted. If you want big PvP firefights, go and play Battlefield 3 or something. There are plenty of games that cater to that kind of mentality and game style. Sounds like you just need to let it go (the need to kill people). My suggestion would most definitely prevent all instant disconnects, because the threat of losing all of their gear (the reason they disconnect in the first place) would be too great. You could even have it so that repeat offenders get less chances. So if you lose all of your gear 3 times because of disconnecting, then after that, you lose it after 1 instant disconnect without sitting first. A 3 minute, or 7 minute wait punishes everyone because of the actions of a few. That isn't cool, regardless of how annoying DCers are.

I'm fully updated, but I am guessing that most of the servers aren't as I can't join any. It's totally understandable. If you didn't expect this, you are either very naive, or very new to PC gaming. Also, I find it very hard to have any sympathy for the people losing their sniping stuff...Kind of funny actually :P

I propose that in order to log out, you have to be seated in the relaxed position, with your weapon shouldered in order to do so. If people force a log out, when they log back in, the game will see that they are not seated and unarmed and give them a warning. If the game detects this 3 times (as an example) they should lose all of their gear automatically. It takes about 5 seconds or more to get to the unarmed, seated position, then another few seconds to disconnect. The animation could even be prolonged to increase the time it takes, but not too long. I understand that would still allow people in cover to log out, but 3 minutes to log out is way too long. 7 minutes to change servers is ridiculous. Half the time I have to try a few different servers because of server issues, or the time of day isn't correct, fps issues, frame hitching etc... If this was implemented it might take me over 15 minutes to find and join a decent, working server. I would find that totally unacceptable and like I was being punished for other people abusing the disconnect.

I'm thinking that I should wait another couple of hours before trying this...

The servers have to update guys...I wouldn't rush into it. I am gonna play safe and wait a couple of hours before I play so that the servers roll out the update. I'd advise everyone else to do the same thing. ;)

Saw this and thought of DayZ* instantly... *I'm probably playing too much DayZ

Hatchet is overpowered but necessary
soapmak3r replied to SpeechMan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The hatchet is a great weapon...Preferable to the Lee Enfield most of the time. I just spent over an hour looting Elektro with just a hatchet, totally stealth from other players... With the hatchet, you can pretty much not worry about aggro-ing zeds because if you do, you can just stand there, wait till they are in range and take them out silently. I actually think we should have the option to have a pistol, rifle and a melee weapon available at all times (if you have them). Half the time I find myself considering dumping a shotgun or the enfield just to be able to use the hatchet... -
How to get rid of server hoping, farming and empty servers in five simple steps.
soapmak3r replied to daedrick's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If I couldn't play on servers from a different time zone, I probably wouldn't play at all due to not being able to play until the evening. -
Thanks for all the positive feedback! :)

Cheers! Glad that you like them. Here is the second batch of tracks. :) DayZ music ideas 02 - http://soundcloud.com/john-marshall-ni/sets/dayz-music-ideas-02 I should have a youtube video up by tomorrow evening demonstrating how the songs work in game. :)

I present to you...The perfect way to stop disconnecting!
soapmak3r posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
After having people disconnect, then reconnect during fire fights several times this evening, I came up with this. Make it so that you cannot disconnect from a server unless you are in the relaxed, unarmed, cross legged, sitting position first. That would prevent any and all disconnects during fights. Go on, tell me I'm wrong. I dare ya! -

In that case, if a player alt-f4s out of the game, when they log back in they will not be in the sitting position. They get a warning. If they do it more than 5 times within a short period of time, they lose all their items. -

I'm not sure what you mean. All I am suggesting is that everyone has to sit down into the relaxed position before they can log out. Not that they have to throw away weapons etc. Sitting down does not cause you to put your weapon in your backpack. You just sit down and can't fire while seated. It takes about 5 seconds or more to holster or shoulder your weapon and then sit. Then another few seconds to log out. More than enough of a delay. This would effectively prevent anyone from auto-logging out as soon as someone farts in their direction. -
That wouldn't eliminate deathmatching, it would just make the griefing of servers even worse because the punishment of being killed is so great...Griefers would take great pleasure in taking away other people's ability to play. Getting killed is bad enough. You lose everything you worked hard for. That's enough. It even feels like too much sometimes. Also, the reason why people respawn to get to a better location is because those locations have all the gear. A better solution would be to have an equal chance of gear spawning at each spawn location. Then respawning over and over would be a non-issue. Spawn locations are currently broken.

Why wouldn't it work? It takes a good five second to disarm and sit down... http://youtu.be/B8VdGwZTElE More than enough to kill the coward that is disconnecting.
