So, once again i have decided to check out SA as i haven't completely given up on it. I was here about 6 months ago asking the exact same question.. What has changed? What has improved? Should i bother taking a look at it again or would i be wasting my time? Oh, i'm a bit curious, when i checked it out 6 months ago i believe it was in .59 or .60, and now it's in .61? Pardonne moi if i'm wrong but that is totally wack.

It's only temporary, will move to another place soon enough. And my PC is pretty decent (6800k, GTX 1060 which i will upgrade to 1080ti when it comes).

This game needs community content more than anything the developers can do, sadly i don't see much of a community anymore. If you noticed i have been here since the very beginning of the mod with probably around 1000 hours in total in which 2/3rd of the time was probably spent on custom maps and versions of the mod. My biggest gripe of the standalone ever since it was released was that it used the same map, and considering the community has been locked out for the past 3-4 years i think this is where things went really wrong, not to consider the fact that it's been in development for almost 4 years and in EA for over 3. Time killed the game.

No, would take about 15 hours to download it on my current connection so i would rather spend that time downloading something else..

So i haven't even thought about this game for many months, last time i tried it out was in .58 or .59. Found it to be pretty much the same old and uninteresting (mainly because i'm a veteran mod player so i'v grown somewhat tired of it). What are the new major features and should i bother downloading it again?

Worth taking a look at this game again?
grimsonfart replied to grimsonfart's topic in General Discussion
In fact i just did so. My first impressions where as follow; runs better, looks better, feels the same (not a good thing for me, as stated above i don't want the same feel but guess that's "personal"), lag, items taking forever to pick up, zombies broken. I also got stuck inside a building because a corpse was in the way (i had no problem getting in but no matter what i did i couldn't get out)... I'm gonna come back in a few months and check it out again as i usually do. -
Anything planned with tall grass not rendering in the distance?
grimsonfart replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
This game already has horrible optimization issues and you want the grass rendering upped? Not gonna happen, even with the new renderer i doubt they can do much about it since this is a thing in ALL games except for DayZ it's a problem. -
Was as well hoping for desync and maybe some performance fixes, but at the moment performance is absolutely crashing in towns (15-20fps) and in the woods i'm not getting more than 70fps compared to 40-60 in towns and 100+ outside.
-
yeah riiiight, pics or not happening. I remember getting that once when i was able to use the -winxp command, suddenly it stopped working though and now i'm at like 40-60 on a i7 5920k and 980Ti... also, that 512mb ram thing tells me you are obvious troll...
-
3+ years after release they tend to be fixed though...
-
Sorry, was kinda playing stupid asking that... My real question is, how can you make it look worse than it currently is? What i saw by reading that was telling me that they are incapable of making the game look better even with DX11 and all it's features which sounds awfully suspect.
-
I have to quote "making sure the visual quality is at least the same as the original renderer", i need some clearance on that sentence before i start trowing rocks.
-
The game already has issues regarding performance, increasing draw distance will make it even worse. It's an issue, but one that's unlikely to go away since we are all playing on different systems/graphics settings. This isn't exactly the first game that has had this issue and not the last.

New renderer - When will we see it or at least get some kind of timeline?
grimsonfart replied to robophant's topic in General Discussion
Ok, i admit 2-3 is on the short side, make it 3-4.. -

grimsonfart replied to robophant's topic in General Discussion
Since you are only mentioning AAA games from world renowned studios with hundreds upon hundreds of people working on them with a budget as big as the biggest Hollywood blockbusters, yeah it drags the average up. Let me give you a few other approximate numbers; Dying Light (3 years), Crysis 2 (3 years), Civ 5 (3 years) Hitman Absolution (3-4 years), GTA V (4 years). Point is, we are all wrong by posting numbers, it all varies hugely from game to game, from studio to studio etc... So i'm not talking more shit than you are. -

"This is a list by the quarter of how the DayZ Dev Team plans to update DayZ" You can't teach a human to understand what a horse wrote either. (i have no idea how to turn this white text off) -

Yeah, it's sad isn 't it, people still defending this game like there is no tomorrow. I will admit it though, yeah i definitely have a history of disliking the developers on this forums, but you can't just see why can you? Problem here is, this is a niche environment, when someone like me comes around and speaks the truth no one wants to accept it because you are all busy cheering at the smallest forum update. I expected something rather grand out of the standalone, now almost 2 years later after initial release i still don't see it and it's not even CLOSE to being a finished product. You say a AAA game takes 3-5 years, i beg to differ, in today's standard 2-3 years, and that is FROM SCRATCH. DayZ mostly has the SAME map, a lot of the SAME mechanics, SAME graphics. Basically, i think they are spending most of their time figuring out how the damn Bohemia code works since it must be written in some kind of lost African tribe language. Keep drooling at the upcoming features list boys, you better be one patient S.O.B. "troll" out. -

I'm a developer myself, not in the coding department but rather within environment art so i know a thing or two about development. It's hard for me to comment about these internal issues since they are mostly related to things i don't know much about. One thing i do know though, is that anyone pretending this development cycle to be normal is wrong and it's clear that they have lacked structure from the beginning hence the constant delays and the fact that we have moved from .28 to .58 in almost two entire years (take a look at the quarterly goals, we are now Q4 and most of what Q1 was supposed to bring isn't here). So please, get off your high horses and stop pretending it's the way it's supposed to be. Once again, no hate, just trowing out some facts whether you love it or hate it (getting ready for a shit storm of disagreements like always). For now, i shall just have to enjoy the few hours of looting i can have fun with, then play something else :) -

So we are pretty much stuck with speculations and nothing more than loose numbers that are bound to be changed 2-3 times further up the road, DayZ's development in a nutshell. No hate, just slight displeasure. -

We still barely know anything about the renderer. We don't even know if it will even give noticeably better performance. My hopes is that it comes with global illumination and proper occlusion culling (which is one of the major issues related to performance), but as always i am and you should ready yourself to get disappointed. -
I have encountered a fairly big problem recently that seems to be quite random. Sometimes when i launch DayZ, i literally get 2-3 fps in menu, it constantly stutters and lags so much i can barely click on anything. Then again, sometimes it works fine but i have yet to figure out exactly what is causing it. I have tried removing all launch options, set CPU back to default speeds, restarting my computer (which sometimes help but not always) and check integrity on Steam. Also, i keep receiving an application error whenever i exit saying that memory could not be written. EDIT: Ironically solved it right after posting this, Spotify was causing the issues mainly when playing music while launching...

Massive random lag issues when launching.
grimsonfart replied to grimsonfart's topic in Troubleshooting
I have found the issue, it seems to be g-sync which is causing this not only in DayZ but every other game i play. I figure this must be some kind of driver problem or similar. -
Dark nights? Where'd they go? Also: Thunder?
grimsonfart replied to VVarhead's topic in General Discussion
As someone mentioned new renderer should make it ideal again since the current lighting in DayZ is absolutely horrible. Hopefully we see some kind of global illumination as well so we get more consistency (like interiors being brighter than outside for some reason)... Some new fog wouldn't hurt either. But we won't know anything until the "uncertain" release of the constantly delayed renderer.. -

Yeah same here actually, whenever i join a server for the first time i get like 10-15 seconds of 0-3 fps but it always catches up. -
As mentioned, i have had much better luck inland and try to go places you think most people wouldn't bother.
