    Heli Crash FAQ

The one south of Berezino about 2 weeks ago. The one East of factory was a couple of months back (haven't seen on there since), I have seen them just west of Factory as recent as 5 days ago though, got killed looting one there. That one was 250 meters east of the eastern edge of the peak of Dubina hill. That said, aside from those near Factory and Berezino, every other spawn i have seen is well within the border you drew.

    Heli Crash FAQ

Needs to move more east as well. I have seen Chopper spawns just outside the south end of Berezino, and to the east of Factory down by Polana. Also there are 4 spots in a circle around Dubrovka where i see spawns quite often.

    Heli Crash FAQ

Heres a couple that come to mind OP. Nice post BTW. Can Helicopter loot be Cycled? Sometimes i see trash loot on a chopper crash. Is trash loot in the chopper loot table or is that a sign another player has been there?

    Average life expectancy

Never fails.... i get to 14 days and do something stupid like loot a chopper with no over watch. Spend 30 minutes scoping the area, move in and 15m away from the chopper, *BANG* one shot to the back of the head, very close range, and im dead. No biggie though, spent the last two weeks preparing for such an event, i'll be back in the saddle in no time! Word of advice for solo chopper hunters. If you get that gut feeling that the chopper you are about to loot is being camped.... it probably is. If you want to loot it anyway, set up a tent some distance away and store everything you have in it less your pack, and easily replaced items in your tool belt. Use stealth to loot the chopper and use one of the guns you find as your primary.
  7. I don't know what you people are talking about, i found 2x AS50s, NVGs and an M107 on two choppers just this morning. Im done with the NWAF, i can fully gear up at deer stands, and a run or two at the Stary tents. Get geared, store it in a tent, rinse and repeat.

    Spawned on coast (once agian)

Whenever i get stuck on a loading screen, regardless of server age, beta or version, there is a chance i will end up at the coast. Not always, but it does happen. Up until recently, i retained all my gear when this happened. Yesterday was a different story. Apparently i joined one of my regular servers as it restarted or crashed, sticking me at the infinite loading screen. I used task manager to shut the game down, waited a few and logged back in. It put me in the "Wilderness", and a message that i was killed popped up in the lower left corner. No biggie, this too has happened before. So i log out, then log back in and sure enough, im on the coast at Kemenka, only this time i have nothing but my Ghillie suit. Had i not been preparing a few tents over the last month i would have been pissed to no end. Took a couple of hours but im 90% where i was before. Now to restock my tents (yes im a purist and save them on exit).
  9. Although i agree with the ridiculous duping issue, i can definitely relate to finding boatloads of some of the rarer guns. My group has found no less that 10 chopper crash sites this weekend, on them we found 5x AS50s, 2x L85, 2x M249, and many others, one chopper had 2x AS50s on it and another had 3x Bizons. So i wouldn't doubt that he has has some serious luck with finding high end weapons. In contrast, three of us have regularly gone to the NW Airfield and raided the Barracks, probably 7 or 8 times this week alone. I have never seen so much trash loot in a high value area as i have this last few visits. We cycled the north barracks last night and came up with 2 guns, an AKS and AKM, tons of cans, painkillers and chemlights but no good guns. I mainly want a M16 ACOG, but that is turning out to be the most rare gun in the game, i have seen them in tents and on enemys we've killed, but never in a loot spawn. Im happy to say the only items i have that were looted out of tents are my M4 SD and my rangefinders, everything else was looted legit, and over the last few weeks multiple times, enough so that i have my own tents scattered around and will be able to re gear quickly when the time comes. But its taken a ton of work and time, and fortunately a great group of guys that support each other. I know the good guns are there, but it seems patterns of luck and loot are different for everyone.

I will never be a bandit. Survivor nice-guy stories

Im a chopper hunter. I play with a small group, we PVE for the most part but occasionally visit the citys or Military sites to liven things up. Last night i was on DE 72 doing my usual schtick. I ran from south of Novy, through the fields south and west of Guglovo, and on to the big fields near Gorka and Polana. Figured i would stop at the pond behind the factory to drink and refill, maybe sweep the factory for a heat pack since it was a cold pitch black night. As i was running to the factory from Polana, i noticed a tractor parked right on the road. Now at this point there were only 5 people on the server. Me and my two other friends and two unknowns. I scoped the surrounding areas looking for a sniper, and checked the factory for Zed spawns.... all looked clear. But i decided to pass on the tractor and just hit the pond and factory before heading north. I drank and refilled and crawled through the hole in the back wall. Checked the two out buildings, found my heat pack and headed for the front gate. As i got to the front of the building i hear something in my right ear... my right ear only. I had two other friends in TS with me, but they were at least 4 clicks away. I asked them to stop coms for moment and soon enough i hear talking.... right close by. I hunker down near the front exterior of the building. Of course my heart is racing at this point. I have been alive 11 days, been in a few battles but had no kills. Equipment wise im pretty well geared. I have the ghillie suit, M4A1 CCO SD, nvgs and Rangefinders... (they seem to be of the most coveted items), I had a choice. I know i had the drop on this guy and could surprise him at any time, but part of me wanted to make contact and prove that there are still some nice guys out there. Eventually i typed into direct chat, "Hello?". A few silent seconds pass before i hear muffled speach, the only word i could make out was "hello". Not that he was saying it back to be on comms, but telling someone else about me. Hmmmmm, now it seems that both the unknowns were here with me. He responded typing into direct chat, "Wassup". I typed something back, and he agian responded. All the while he was working his way around the outside of the building, hugging the wall until he was literally standing on top of me. I thought "Oh well, its been a good run" when he took off and ran into the front of the building. Fuckit i thought. I stood up, lowered my weapon and made my self known to this guy. It turned out he was alone, the other unknown disconnected. We chatted a bit more and i found out that he was looking for parts for the tractor. I offered my help in cycling some loot to find what he needed. He was thrilled. We cycled for about ten minutes, all the while my 3 friends that were elsewhere on the server were closing in on the factory in case things went south. If that happened, revenge would need to be exacted. They couldn't believe that i took the chance to contact someone rather than shoot on sight let alone actually play with the guy and help him out. But hey that's who i am. Unfortunately, Chris on DE 72 disconnected as my friends arrived. We opted to hunt more choppers, but not before i found some Fuel tank parts and made a little repair on the tractor and saved it. Chris, if you get to read this, thanks for being cool and not blowing the head off the guy with the ghillie. It was a big risk on your part too and i appreciate it.
  12. Yes. It had a noticeable effect the first couple of months. None of it good. Fortunately i have some great friends and a great family that has helped me achieve balance. The first 2 months that i played this game it was intoxicating, then addicting. Now i can play for an hour or two, or not at all.
  13. I like the OP's observations of the stark finite-ness of resources. After playing for several weeks, the group i roll with had found and set up a few well stocked camps with everything one would need to be completely geared out. My characters had been lasting on average about 2 weeks, so when i died i would run back to these camps and regear, sometimes taking far less than an hour to do it. But at some point i realized that the big draw of this game, at least for me, was the working from the ground up aspect. There was a ton of fun to be had in gearing up as if it was your first time an you were utterly alone with no group support. Now when i die, which is much more often now as i go looking for trouble to add excitement, i do not run back to my body. I slowly work my way up the coast, or i will mad dash into cherno, electro, Balota or wherever the closest decent loot spawn site is. I guess it depends on my mood. Over the next couple of days i will play it like i did in the beginning and will inevitably stumble upon some tents to fill in the gear gaps that i might have. Most of the members of my group dont really get it, they die then run right back to known locations of stocked tents. I find this a bit boring. I do have a stocked tent or two myself, but with med supplies and only a couple of extra guns, if its convenient for me to hit up i will do so, but i would prefer to loot a close by town for what i need. Maybe that goes hand in hand with another aspect of my game play. I am still a friendly player. I will either stay concealed and allow others to pass unmolested, or i will attempt contact if they look like they could use some help ie: a lone survivor with patrol pack having a tough time with Zeds while attempting to gather supplies from a town. Thats part of the reason my average life has been cut in half, and honestly, i have not had great success in getting folks to trust me, but thats who i am, and what i bring to the game. In a way, i am glad that there aren't too many folks that play the game like that, It helps maintain a level of mystery and suspense with each encounter. Those are the things that drew me to the game in the first place, and although it (DayZ) has changed considerably, i still try to play it old school.

    DayZ dreams, anyone?

Yes, i have. Not so much now that i have been playing it a few months, but that first week inspired some pretty intense dreams. The details escape me, but i woke up in a cold sweat a couple of times.

    KILLING ON FIRST SIGHT

I love to role play "that survivor", ya know the one that extends a helping hand to those on the coast, to help them get started, and maybe bring them into the fold and let them join the group. The whole KOS thing has made that a bit more challenging than in the beginning, where it wasnt uncommon to run into a half dozen players between Electro and Cherno that would either out right salute, or lean side to side as you passed by. That said, once your group gets to a good size, say 20 plus members that play every night... what is the benefit of helping coastal spawns, and are they not a serious potential threat to you and your group the second they get a gun? Im torn. Im at a point in the game where helping people seems pointless.... more pointless than killing them on sight. Unfortunately, its just not in my nature to indiscriminately kill an un armed, or poorly armed player if he is not aware of my presence, and i know deep down inside, that will someday get me killed.
  17. I estimate we first ran into this guy at Green Mountain around 11:45 EST.... maybe a little earlier. And that was the speed he was driving through the woods at us!
  18. What Krom said, i was there as well and completely floored at how fast that thing was moving and how it seemed to take no damage plowing down massive trees. Loki, Krom, Cleric and i ( In game was Greatshot) were all together , we had a couple more guys with us as well. Bottom line, we DC'd the first time he came by, waited a few minutes and logged back in. Within seconds he was barreling down on us again so we disconnected for the night realizing something was fishy about this guy.
  19. I am a victim of the same things the OP described. I will not let it change my game. I will continue to gear up, and help out whoever i can. Personally i find it somewhat rewarding to make contact with someone as sick of the KOS syndrome as i am, and i will value those connections until they become considerably less rare.

Ever got shot a few seconds after logging in?

I killed two guys within 5 minutes of each other at the NWAF like that. I was in the cat walk of the metal industrial building overlooking the North Barracks. A guy spawned in the office, about 10m away from where i was. He took aim out the window at one of my squad that was looting the barracks. Shot him before he could squeeze a round off. Did not loot his body, but continued over watch for my squad. 5 minutes later another guy spawns in the exact same spot, turns to look in my direction but hesitated a second.... shot him dead too. About a month later, i spawn in the woods north of Kabinino on a night server with about 5 people on it... just wanted to see if my AS50 worked with night vision. I spawn in, switch weapons to the AS50, learn that it cannot be used w/NVGs, switch back to my CCO (all while in the skirt of a pine tree) and decided to log out. Couldn't have been longer than a minute. All of a sudden i get peppered with silenced rounds..... Dead. I still think someone teleported in behind me since i was in an unlikely spot to encounter another player as there were only 5 other players on the server, but, ya never know.

]TPG[ Total Punishment Gaming - Community Recruitment

Wow, sounds cool. I happen to be part of a gaming community that has recently gathered about 30 people to play DayZ, a solid 10 of us play nightly. Most of us have the same approach to the game as you outlined, although there are a few that chomp at the bit to go on a killing spree sometimes.... anyway i found our similarities interesting since the gaming community im part of is called TPG (TeamPlayerGaming) (we run no TPG tags as we are all from different clans, TPG hosts our forums and such). Im sure we will be stopping by your server. Might even set up a mission to help new spawns gear up and learn the game there.

    Zeds...zombies...infected ooh my.

Zeds or Zombies primarily. When getting more specific we will use terms that more aptly describe their state of movement, such as, Walker, Monkey, Crawler.

Your rules for shoot on sight

I never fire at un-armed. I will shoot at a player if i am being shot at. I will shoot a player encroaching on my groups AO ( I usually take over watch duty). If there was a comm method with longer range than direct, i would issue a warning first. I have let far more survivors pass me by than ones i have shot. Even if they are looting in area i plan to loot. I will usually remain concealed as best i can and let them go about their business. If i see a player shoot at another player, the shooter becomes a target. Cant speak for the rest of my group though, many of them spend hours looking for someone to shoot. But to their credit, they tend to avoid shooting coastal cuties for the most part! I tried KOS for a while and it was basically boring. Its much more fun to watch people go about their business.

    Your stupidest death

13 day character, very low pop server. Found a chopper crash near Polana and was waiting for freinds to join me. Got comfortable and and way closer to the chopper than i should have been especially with no over watch. Never noticed that the server pop went from about 7 to 37 as i approached the chopper. Alt tabbed out of game for a bit, tabbed back in to eat a magazine of Stanags.
