We should have The Stig too, and Evil Knievel

Ok, my bad!

http://youtu.be/xQslwbi5Fg8 I was somewhere in the woods and I could hear someone beeping a car horn. I wasn't filming at first so I only caught a few seconds of it. Couldn't hear any sort of engine noise, and I ran around for quite a while afterwards looking but I couldn't find anything... Sorry about the chat over the top! Anyone heard anything like this? It could have been a vehicle somewhere close by, but as I said, I spent about 15 minutes wandering those woods and saw nothing. Creeped me out a little if I'm honest.

I know, that could easily be a problem... There will always be "not very nice fellows"!

After seeing a few videos on here and on Youtube of people having small parties around their camps, I had an awesome idea... One day, at a specific time, every server that is willing to join should host a Barbecue. Set up a camp somewhere on the map, bring all the vehicles, a fuckload of cooked meat, tins of food, drinks, build a load of fires, get some music on and just hang out for a while... Bandits and Survivors temporarily getting along and having a chat and a laugh with no fear of getting killed. There could be bicycle and motorbike races, free helicopter tours, truck rides etc. I know I may be expecting a lot, especially with a lot of people afraid of losing their gear or getting killed, but for once can't we all just get along and celebrate this amazing gaming experience? It may only be a mod in Alpha stage. It may be broken. It may be full of hackers and dupers. It may be full of people who KOS or combat log. It may be full of noobs who run through Elektro and Cherno shouting "friendly!" and then quickly getting taken out... But I'm pretty sure that nearly every single one of the million plus people that have enjoyed the experience that is Day Z will agree that no other game can make you feel like this one does. Lets all get together and celebrate, just for a few hours. If the soldiers can stop fighting during the first world war for a peaceful game of football (soccer for you Americans), then surely we can all put our guns down and just have some fun, even for a short period of time. I know I can't be the only one who would like to see something like this happen. We could make videogame history by having the largest simultaneous virtual barbecue ever seen :) Just a thought, feel free to get involved.

This is a very good idea. The tent should still exist, but your character shouldn't just magically know where it is. Everyone has their opinions, but I like the idea of storing things in tents but only for your current character. As many people have already said, spawning and running to your tent from your last character and just grabbing everything from there isn't really surviving. Sure, someone could steal your shit, or you might die on the way to your tent, but again, that's just another inconvenience rather than a punishment for death. Myself and a friend found a little camp of around 4 or 5 tents and a broken truck yesterday, somewhere in the woods not far from Kamenka... looted that shit, got myself an AS50, 2 GPS and some other stuff. There was plenty more there but we just didn't have enough room to carry it, so we flattened all the tents with a motorbike just for the fun of it. My point being, spawn, die, spawn, die spawn, die, repeat until you spawn in Kamenka (happens to me a lot, I hate that place), run about 10 minutes up the tree line on the edge of the map and then you're fully loaded again. Bit of a stupid place to put a camp as it was really easy to find (unless you're a noob and run straight to Cherno or Electro), but while it was there it would have been so easy for people to quickly gear up life after life... and say what you will, but that is NOT the point in Day Z.

I really like these ideas. As a few people have said, they need a little tweaking but the overall concept is really good. I think it would decrease people camping fresh spawns and Cherno and Electro a little, also adding a higher element of fear when you spawn, as you could be somewhere up north amongst a clan war or something with nothing to fight back with. I also think that if something like this did happen they should remove your location on screen when you first load into a server. I know lots of players use online loot maps etc, so people always know where they are when they spawn, even if there's not a town in sight. Would be nice to spawn somewhere in a forest and not even have any idea what part of the map you are actually at. Wouldn't really take too long to run somewhere and figure it out, but would be a little more realistic in my opinion.

First hacker encounter I've had.

Similar thing happened to me yesterday. I was running through the woods above Cherno, nobody in sight when all of a sudden someone comes over voice chat and says "Stop stop, I can see you". I turn around and there's some dude standing right next to me with some sort of sniper rifle wearing a Ghillie suit, and he's looking straight at me. He says something like "You have five seconds to comply". I had just picked up some sort of assault rifle from Balota airfiled (I forget which one), so I empty an entire clip into his head, and he's just there looking up into the sky... I reload, he just shoots me in the head, then I am dead. I had my suspicions that he was hacking seeing as he just appeared right by me, and I had been constantly checking around me, but after unloading a full clip into him and nothing happening, I now know he was hacking. Whoever you were, I would just like to say a big FUCK YOU. -
Really nice idea I think. You could also take photos of people you've killed, or a photo when you're about to bleed out looking up at a fuckload of Zs

New item suggestion - Megaphone (Standalone?)
Tranzsforma replied to Daaaaannn's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I can't see how anybody could not like this idea... -
If you can find the right position then yes, it may be possible.

This is just a thought and in no way am I saying this is how it should be, but lets just say... A sniper is hiding in the hills to the north of Cherno. He spots a survivor riding the Z train through town wielding a hatchet, takes a shot, and the survivor goes down. Maybe nobody saw where he shot from, but it's more than guaranteed in a populated server that somebody else heard it. The third player, the one that heard the gunshot would have a rough idea which direction the shot came from, and possibly an idea of distance due to the volume of the gunshot, quieter being further away and louder being closer obviously. He can't do anything quite yet, he doesn't have a weapon and is probably going to get taken out if he tries to get close to the sniper. In each of the major towns there could then be a map on a board somewhere, (next to a bus stop or a train station?) the same as the in game map, but not portable. A player could be able to access this map and drop a marker, or highlight a square on the map where he thinks this shot came from. Now, any other survivors that go and look at this same map will see the markers and have a general idea of where this sniper is camping. You wouldn't need player names or anything like that, just a simple marker. This marker could stay on the map for a limited time, maybe 30 minutes, or until someone else activates the map and removes it, and it could possibly be done so only a bandit can remove markers. Also, if you have the in game map, you can then transfer the coordinates onto there so you can have a check while you are on the move. I don't really care too much for the idea of a reward for the kill, it's more of an idea for a way of survivors to actually communicate without actually having to be too close to each other. This map could be used in the same way that the in game map works, but can be viewed by anyone who activates it. This may also encourage people to sit and camp looking at the map to stop people posting locations, and could make for some interesting scenarios. Just an idea, could work, could be good, could be absolutely rubbish, but ideas are ideas and that's what the forum is for.

Real living forest - Birds, foot prints, twigs etc.
Tranzsforma replied to romeobob87's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
While playing last night I noticed that when it rains you leave footprints on the road but they don't last very long. Would be nice if for say 10-15 minutes after it has stopped raining, if you walk on any kind of dirty surface and then onto a road or tarmac surface, footprints get left behind for a certain amount of time, say 10 minutes for example. This way it could be helpful because if you see footprints then you know someone has recently been around, but may or may not still be there. The fact that some kind of footprint already shows on a wet road leads me to believe that there is something already in the engine for it, so I can't imagine it would be too difficult to actually implement... although I may be totally wrong. -
The ultimate fix for everything
Tranzsforma replied to ironman Tetsuo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wonderful analogy you have there. I will continue to play through the hackers and all the bugs because I enjoy the game. I have never once complained on these forums about anything, I just do all the complaining in my head while I patiently wait for things to get better. I am pretty fed up with being killed by snipers hiding somewhere in the mountains, but that has just made me more determined to go and hunt them down instead of whinging about it. I haven't actually managed to kill any yet, but my time will come. -
So I spawn in Solnichniy at the start of a new life. I check a few buildings and find myself a hatchet, kill a few zombies and then decide instead of heading north as usual I'd make my way to Elektro to see if I can find anything exciting happening. I head into the woods and get a bit lost but end up coming back onto the main road a little further south. Running down the road I see a load of old cars, but upon getting a little closer I find a shiny new SUV. I jump in, very excited as I have never had a car, only a motorbike, a tractor once and one of those shitty little boats. I drive north to find somewhere to hide my vehicle and then log out to wait for my friend to get home so we can go for a cruise around Cherno. While logged out waiting I decide to go and check the Day Z wiki and see what this vehicle is all about... but I can't find it. After a quick google search I find out that this vehicle isn't part of Day Z and is actually a hack. Now I feel like I have been violated. I have been driving around in my awesome new car without even realising that it only exists because someone is cheating somewhere on the server... I think I may use it just to meet up with my friend later and then maybe try and drive it into Black Lake and watch it sink... After my brief partnership with said vehicle, I wonder why it wasn't included in Day Z anyway? It was fun while it lasted, but driving that car will now feel like cheating on my girlfriend, and I don't even have a girlfriend. By the way, the server is EU #404
