Frankly if there is one thing this game teach you is cooperation. To a point of course. -With a friend you have a backup if things go wrong. -With two friends no loner will ever attack you for your gear. -With more friends, your carrying capacity allow you to scavenge much more efficiently, benefit most from vehicles, establish temporary perimeters while a friend is respawning, carry extra "respawn kits". Peoples already group and socialize, simply not with everyone, and they shouldn't have to, really. What i don't like with the humanity system is that it label a group of peoples as "bad" and creates a game sanctioned "us vs them" which is fine in a team based game, but this is not one of them. Most humanity + shoot bandits on sight. They do not shoot them because they are a scourge to the game, they shoot them because unlike shooting another survivor, shooting a bandit is free, no matter how unfair the circumstances are, and they can pretend they are acting for the common good and pat eachothers in the back for making the world a better place or something. But being a bandit is a simple "karma" mechanic, it doesn't factor why you became a bandit or how, it's not very precise either since you become a bandit at your first kill of a survivor, no matter what, and there are hundred of reasons to kill one another. The day you become a bandit by accident, or on purpose, you realise that it's nothing special, that you didn't become magically an evil bloodthirsty brute, you're just the same, but now, instead of giving you the benefit of the doubt, 90% of the other players shoot you on sight as soon as they spot you. So if you want to survive, you do the same and sink further into the humanity scale. It's trying to push some universal view of good vs evil, but fail to do so because you cannot accurately judge player intents and the situation solely through game logic. That's why in the real world we dish out justice with a court, and not with computers. In my opinion, we get enough manichean good vs evil shoved down my throat everyday in the real world, don't you think? I mean this mod picture the end of civilization, there is no god, there is no retribution for your sins, all you can do is TRY to cling to the last shreds of your humanity. You can only make virtues for yourself, being unable to force others to play your way is what makes this mod interesting. Enforcing it through a simple (and ultimately abuseable) game logic only ensure that players will walk the razor edge of the "rules" and that player to player relationship will remain superficial and shallow.

I love how those who whine about the gamma slider are the first ones that will rely on out of game chat/voice chat and out of game map and loot tables. The door swing both way you know. On the subject of gamma, peoples have wildly different hardware and on some of them the night is unplayable to the point that the sky and the treeline can't even be distinguished, while on other hardwares it's perfectly visible.

When i see those stuffs, the time and dedication some players can have impress me. But it also makes me sad that players will go to such lengths to give themselve an advantage, just because they can't resist the need to "crack" open the unknown factors of the game. It's the part i strongly dislike in the internet gaming crowd, this need to "control" the game. It's not my mod so i can't say anything, but if it was i would do that stuff server side only and shuffle it a little every few days or so, so it still makes sense to those who think "inside" the game. Maybe, someday, there will be a game that basically "kick your butt" everytime you think you successfully dissected it.

Arma run in realtime, it can't run any other way i believe, excepted in singleplayer, but then everything else goes fast, movements included.

Server owners, check your settings, we can see other players on the map!
Lady Kyrah posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It appears that a bunch of the new servers are running with the option that show unit movements on the map. Which means that other players can see where you are in some conditions and track your movements (for the mod, all players are in the same team). -
Locked/Passworded Server ? Say it here !
Lady Kyrah replied to tiri's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well my question was basically, are server admins allowed to password their servers or do they risk losing their access to the database? -
I don't think i'm being cool or anything but i take the game for what it is and make due with it, i do not complain how it should be changed to fit my play style.

Woaaha a lot of heat in here. My two cents is that the "spawn" is the coast line of the game world which is like... 15 kilometers? And it include cherno and electro which are the two biggest cities of the map. How do you plan to "protect" the spawn area when it contains most of the major cities and when most weapons have a reach between 100 and 300 meters? I have yet to get killed on spawn. I get up and dash to the forest before I even decided what i'm going to do, the coast is exposed and there is a lot of players respawning or dicking around, even without spawn campers, it's a no brainer that it's not a safe place to have a nap, i'm not staying on makarov coast any longer than i need to.

What are you waiting for? We are all waiting for your "chernarus v2".

Survival is not fair, war isn't fair. If you played the regular arma, sometimes you will die and nothing you might have done differently would have changed anything. DayZ isn't some attempt to build a balanced game around a zombie setting, it's not designed to be enjoyable from every ends. Hell i don't know what rocket wants, but from what i see, by chosing the arma engine and the way the mod is so far, the idea is simply to provide a virtual zombie apocalyps survival experience. For the spawn killing there should be an IN game solution, not some arbitrary restriction on who and when can you be looted, because the more arbitrary rules you put in place, the more you detract from the survival experience, and the more peoples you will see walking the edge of the "rules".

WHy don't you fight back? I mean seariously if you where in a survival situation and some guy is picking your friends one by one, for fun, sport, survival, or because he believe his god told him to do it. Will you drop to your knees and ask the sun why? Or will you take the matter in your hands and if you don't succeed, die trying to.

Zombie movement - the zig-zag shuffle.
Lady Kyrah replied to eko (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There used to be a video from Arma2 OA where the devs talked avout pathfinding and there was some debug mode active where you could see how the path was aproximated. Long story short, pathfinding is done on a grid. -
Scorped rifles need to go or become ULTRA rare
Lady Kyrah replied to Mutonizer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I used to do extreme range sniping with the SVD a while ago in Arma2 (non dayZ) a sniper rifle is still effective at 1000+ meters. The tunnel vision of the CZ is fairly extreme, i would say it balances it quite well. Also bullets are not instant in arma, they take a while to travel and they drop. Hitting someone with a CZ at 300 meters in full run is not that easy. I guess the conclusion is that you shouldn't stand still on open ground. Also the military assault rifles are zeroed to 300 meters if i recall. -
Patch 1.5.7 and this being an Alpha and fucking zombie spawns
Lady Kyrah replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
People also need to realise that rocket isn't making this mod to make you or me happy, he most likely has a very clear idea of what he wants to do and unlike big game companies, doesn't really care if his mod doesn't cater to every gamers out there. -
I did that before too but as a concealment method, not to evade a pursuer. Used this in Flashpoint, find a dead body and crawl under it, aim down then double tap alt to disengage gun from head and check your surrounding. I'm not sure how well it works in Arma however.

I wholeheartedly agree. There is no argument from me in regards to the fact that it is unfair for people to be able to kill other players to the point of exhaustion' date=' and then 'pop out', rename themselves, "Joe Niceguy", and pop back in and tell everyone, "Hey, I'm a bandit hunter. Let me join your team, and I'll knock them all out." It's possible that it's a tough thing to do. I haven't coded in a couple of years, and don't have access to the ArmA code, so I can't say one way or the other if it might be easy. Maybe it's as simple as locking the player name for a determined period of time. Maybe it's not. It's a tough argument to be made from both sides' date=' and believe me, I do appreciate the nuances of both. (I guess what I'm saying is, I'm really not as big a dick as I play on the internet.) ;) TKJ [/quote'] It's simple, arma doesnt have a mechanic to change the model of an actor on the fly, i let you imagine what rocket is actually doing to make it happen.
-
I have NO issues with rocket being paid for his work. The only issue i see is that once fans start shelling money they will not merely suggest but DEMAND things.
-
There isn't a whole lot you can do, Arma is one of the most taxing FPS games out there and it doesn't have a lot to do with bad optimisation, it's just that BF and most games can cheat here and there to get better render times, where arma cannot.

Signal Flare... is it possible?
Lady Kyrah replied to Zombielicious's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah the M203 flares are basically made for that. I suppose a handheld flare gun could be handy, but who would trade that for their pistol? -
I really hope the db remain centralised, simply because as it is right now, the Zday team hold the server hosts "by the balls" if i can say and can apply sanctions to bad hosts. If the servers can be entirely autonomous we will go back to server admins giving advantages to their little clique and kicking you for killing them.

Patch 1.5.7 and this being an Alpha and fucking zombie spawns
Lady Kyrah replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I would say that i like the new numbers, on a side note, the average life expectency dropped by 30 minutes. -
There is one temporary fix to this, make yourself a nice custom face, turns out my "baby face" skin is pretty easy to identify :D

Night time darkness levels. (ATI Vs nVidia)
Lady Kyrah replied to velyse (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I took a few samples for those interested, i'm on a gtx560ti, untouched gamma, my screens where calibrated a while ago with a professional graphism colorimetric probe. The game simulate the moon phases and the procession of the stars in the sky based on the day, month, year and the seasons, those where taken with a clear weather. may 20, 2012: new moon 0:00 june 4, 2012: full moon 0:00 Now to illustrate the seasonal difference i took the same screens with the time set around october. october 15, 2012: new moon 0:00 http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/559815834162250942/D797B31B43D6EB01BB1B8965D6279A24609B3CB9/ october 29, 2012: full moon 0:00 http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/559815834162279318/70627A938395317583BCA3C13C178047C5C5D164/ If you can't see any of the buildings and details on the full moon screens, your displays/graphic card is set too dark.
