I'm not sure why we would WANT this, any personal skills we can get better at, if we really want to. The problem with "game" like skills (to me) is that they put you in a position of superiority for no reason related to your profiency at playing the game.

There is wuite a lot of servers now but quite a few are basiczlly dead weight because they either are misconfigured (see friendlies on the map) or simply end up not working (waiting for server response). Currently the servers that aren't at capacity are at night or have the "waiting for server response" bug. There is one big advantage to require all servers to run from the server database, a constant player experience from server to server, because admins are held accountable for the way they handle their servers. As it is now, a server can lose it's right to the database if the administrator is misbehaving, which is the number one plague on gmod RP servers, where either you do what the admin tells you (regardless of what the mod allow you to do) or you get kicked/banned. If we had autonomous servers, every single server admin would start putting up their own little unwritten rules like: -no random deathmatching (what is RDM is left to the admin's apreciation) -no killing the server's clan members. -no killing in chernogorsk (or another arbitrary chosen town). -no spawn killing (what still qualify as spawn killing is usually much wider for the admin and his mates) -no sniping. You can see how it can go if the server admins don't have anything they might lose. TL-DR Yes we need more QUALITY servers, that actually work properly, but the global DB should remain.

Why does this game have so many idiots?
Lady Kyrah replied to Kirvin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is a good idea but i would kick it up a notch, if you've seen "in time" but the cops in this movie never carry more "time" than they need to survive their next shift, so they would not get attacked. Once you got a tent you should hide it well and store your med supplies in it and then only come out with, lets say 1 transfusion kit and one bandage at a time, and nothing else. Also stick the same server always. This way peoples will quickly learn that you are not worth the bullets spent killing you , as you never carry more than what is strictly needed for the next job. -
Any chance for being able to play as a girl?
Lady Kyrah replied to Lady Kyrah's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Voice can be arranged, there is a way with arma2 CO to get a voice identity for women. As for the bodies, yeah... it's not so much an issue with the regular soldier bodies because of the equipment bulk, but for some reason the PMC bodies are really buff, like they are wearing foam clothes or something, or that they are all built on Arnold Schwarzenegger's morphotype. -
Suggestion: fine tune new zed behaviors
Lady Kyrah replied to oktyabr's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There is actually some form of stamina in arma, you get out of breath and your sprinting speed slowly goes down to the "jog" speed, also you can't aim straight for a while. ACE has this thing where you can pass out, but i can't see any time where this was actually an enjoyable element, or when it would have happened at a moment where passing out would matter. Most peoples tend to sprint from A to B and that's where a hard stamina penality would kick in pretty much all the time. It would be really annoying (even if somewhat realistic) to have to walk or pause all the time, seeing as not much is going on in the wilderness and that i'd rather minimize the time i'm running out in the open. As a for a stamina bar, i'm personally for a minimalistic hud without gauges and bars telling the player exactly things, i'd rather prefer to rely on in game cues than hud elements. -
A hub for trading, meeting and bearing.
Lady Kyrah replied to raphier's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Life is too short in the mod to really require a dedicated tradng place, there is also only so much gear. The extend of trading i've seen is when me and my friends pick in eachother's backpack for food and drinks. -
Okay i know this is probably never going to happen, but still i thought i would toss my two cents: Bohemia interactive is known for the arma serie, but recently they released a helicopter simulator, in their great community support they also made it arma compatible; if you have take on helicopters, you can make it load arma2 and arma2 OA content, missions, and assets. Obviously this means you can't join arma servers, since you are technically playing take on helicopters. However, choppers in take on helicopters are absolutely fantastic, it's basically arma with proper helicopter simulation and startup sequence. Also they are mostly CIVILIAN helicopters, the small nimble and bright colored types, which are the ones you are most likely to see in a post zombie world. This would mean that chopper piloting wouldn't be a simple matter anymore and be a talent in itself, i could pciture a group busy refueling their flying home, the pilot player busy running the turbine startup sequence, and checking his equipments, trying to get his bird airborne as fast as he can to put his friends to safety. here is a video of startup and shutdown sequence.

Using the mod i linked in the opening post ( http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12248 ) I was able to make this little post apocalyptic campfire story, simply using the heads provided in the mod and adding them through script to PMC bodies. this setFace "Female_head4_helmet" for instance. -
Every game has this topic: Females?
Lady Kyrah replied to codeine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Those models are an exellent example of why making female soldiers in arma is not a problem, all the author of the mod did is create new heads which can then be set by script the same way you set your custom face. With all the gears soldiers wear, the same body work without problems (minus on short sleeves obviously), those bodies are the regular arma2 bodies, as a result no extra animations are required. -
MERGED: changes to inventory system
Lady Kyrah replied to Filterfreaker's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Here is an idea that would work: Each backpack has a ridiculous amount of slots (like 30 or more, it doesn't matter). Each item has a specific weight/units (realistic weight or a symbolic unit, like 1 for every item excepted guns ar 4 to 10). Each backpack is rated for a specific weight/units, if the content of the pack goes over the limit, the player cannot move. This skirt around the item gobbling issues and allow players to use their backpack content to rearrange their inventory. Using realistic weight can be interesting, but the issue is that if we start counting gear in kilograms and grams it might become a bit hairy, and it only factor pure weight. While an arbitrary unit is a bit easier on the math side for the user and can factor an average of weight and volume, it's pretty much like the current slot system, without slots. This idea assume that rocket can set the number of slots used y a weapon. -
Actually it's doable but it requires custom models and animations.

In my opinion , the concept of humanity, "doing the right thing" and all are not really compatible with the lawlessness tied with the collapse of society. To me those concepts are pretty much in place so one part of a population can keep the other in check without having to do a thing about it. It's a simplified concept entirely based on the idea that the normal behavior for a human being is to be a good christian (if you will excuse the comparison) and that "thou shall not kill". And that anyone drifting from that norm is a psychotic individual that doesn't deserve to live. Well i have news for you, this society of virtue is gone. It's everyone for himself. Now what can be added to encourage peoples to cooperate? Why would you think anything need to be added? Having a friend to back you up is invaluable, your chances of survival as a group increase by a great deal. What we need however is pre patch zombie counts because right now it's no surprise that bandits are on the rise, the world is hardly a dangerous place anymore.

I don't knwow what i can tell you, i'm runnging the game on this: 120Gb SSD drive 8Gb Ram AMD Phenom II X4 955 Geforce gtx560ti Your biggest culprits in my opinion are (in this order) GPU, CPU, RAM. Hint for you, playing under your native resolution isn't necessarly a good thing, modern cards are generally not optimised for the smaller resolutions which are more there for compatibility than performances. Arma is one of these games that takes everything to run, you need a fast hard disk to stream the map data to the ram in realtime (to reduce the texture/model pop out effect), you need a fast multi core CPU to run all the different threads and a beefy graphic card to get it all to display at a good framerate, add to that a lot of ram to store all those assets and make it easier on the hard disk. The graphic card sounds like a good upgrade but you will be severely CPU and RAM bound after so don't expect to get the maximum out of your new card.

That's interesting, so basically spamming to enter the server makes it worse? Is it why there are servers in my list that are listed as having a giant ping but are perfectly playable? Would it be better to join servers from the Six Updater then?

Extensive in-depth idea for rewarding good-guy players
Lady Kyrah replied to cat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So basically... being a good guy is not something you would do for the goodness of your heart if i summ it up well, you would do it for the rewards. Now i do have questions. Why do you think good guys need to be rewarded? Why do you think bad guys need to be punished? Where does it fit in a world where there is no society anymore to enforce laws and moral? -
And as you are crawling in the darkness in the middle of Chernogorsk, some bright mind decided to bring fuel to the power station... *RUUUUUUN* I like that idea but only if it can't be maintained on 24/7 and if it's easy enough to sabotage.

Frankly if there is one thing this game teach you is cooperation. To a point of course. -With a friend you have a backup if things go wrong. -With two friends no loner will ever attack you for your gear. -With more friends, your carrying capacity allow you to scavenge much more efficiently, benefit most from vehicles, establish temporary perimeters while a friend is respawning, carry extra "respawn kits". Peoples already group and socialize, simply not with everyone, and they shouldn't have to, really. What i don't like with the humanity system is that it label a group of peoples as "bad" and creates a game sanctioned "us vs them" which is fine in a team based game, but this is not one of them. Most humanity + shoot bandits on sight. They do not shoot them because they are a scourge to the game, they shoot them because unlike shooting another survivor, shooting a bandit is free, no matter how unfair the circumstances are, and they can pretend they are acting for the common good and pat eachothers in the back for making the world a better place or something. But being a bandit is a simple "karma" mechanic, it doesn't factor why you became a bandit or how, it's not very precise either since you become a bandit at your first kill of a survivor, no matter what, and there are hundred of reasons to kill one another. The day you become a bandit by accident, or on purpose, you realise that it's nothing special, that you didn't become magically an evil bloodthirsty brute, you're just the same, but now, instead of giving you the benefit of the doubt, 90% of the other players shoot you on sight as soon as they spot you. So if you want to survive, you do the same and sink further into the humanity scale. It's trying to push some universal view of good vs evil, but fail to do so because you cannot accurately judge player intents and the situation solely through game logic. That's why in the real world we dish out justice with a court, and not with computers. In my opinion, we get enough manichean good vs evil shoved down my throat everyday in the real world, don't you think? I mean this mod picture the end of civilization, there is no god, there is no retribution for your sins, all you can do is TRY to cling to the last shreds of your humanity. You can only make virtues for yourself, being unable to force others to play your way is what makes this mod interesting. Enforcing it through a simple (and ultimately abuseable) game logic only ensure that players will walk the razor edge of the "rules" and that player to player relationship will remain superficial and shallow.

I love how those who whine about the gamma slider are the first ones that will rely on out of game chat/voice chat and out of game map and loot tables. The door swing both way you know. On the subject of gamma, peoples have wildly different hardware and on some of them the night is unplayable to the point that the sky and the treeline can't even be distinguished, while on other hardwares it's perfectly visible.

When i see those stuffs, the time and dedication some players can have impress me. But it also makes me sad that players will go to such lengths to give themselve an advantage, just because they can't resist the need to "crack" open the unknown factors of the game. It's the part i strongly dislike in the internet gaming crowd, this need to "control" the game. It's not my mod so i can't say anything, but if it was i would do that stuff server side only and shuffle it a little every few days or so, so it still makes sense to those who think "inside" the game. Maybe, someday, there will be a game that basically "kick your butt" everytime you think you successfully dissected it.
