Creation of "private" RPG server(S?)?

My personal belief is that this mod was designed to be played with everyone, for the better and for the worst. Guess what will happen in private servers are possible? It's the only type of server anyone will setup because it's just more convenient when you can play only with ppls you trust and/or kick/ban peoples if they don't respect your own definition of rules. Personally i would prefer that rocket keep the current model. I would even go one step further and strike a deal with some of the good hosts that can deploy a lot of servers and fast so they are the only ones with access to the server files and db logons. I don't like the BF3 system, but in day'Z's case it's the only way to prevent rogue servers from harming the database. -
Using the "respawn" button should make you wait for about 5-10 minutes.

To avoid players abusing the respawn function to get better and better spawning points, i suggest that when using the respawn button, a player should be kicked and unable to play for about 5 to 10 minutes max. As rocket stated, repeatingly spamming the respawn button is bad for the mod, so a sort of delay should only be fair. -
It doesn't matter peoples shouldn't have to go watch their twitch.tv and ads just to get the pw to the server.

Well from a realism standpoint you can't really attach and detach optics on the fly. I believe only the PSO style optics can be removed on the fly, for the rest you need to reallign and resight.

I don't think the definition of griefing you rely on applies to dayZ. The way dayZ work i don't think it's possible to have every players have an enjoyable time at the same time, and it's good, how will you get memorable stories otherwise? -

You haven't played on kuroscript:experiment have you? Sounds like what this gmod gamemode had, i like those stuffs, but it's very delicate to balance. I think the handcuffs should remain on as long as another player is nearby (any player, to reduce a sense of "ownerhsip"), we can assume the guardians do what they have to to keep their prisoner. Another player can obviously free the prisoner at any moment. If no other players are nearby, the prisoner can then access an action that let him free himself in a few second (or imediately, why not) For those who don't see why using a prisoner. IT'S A MOBILE BACKPACK. Only loophole i see is the prisoner logging off. -

This guy made a mod that adds a few lady soldiers, but more importantly i believe it add a female face to the selection that you can set to an infantry character. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12248 Any chance that you could strike a deal with the guy or somehow merge it with DayZ so we can pick between guy and girl slot on server logon?

From my understanding , even with the graphic icon they are not blood packs but transfusion kits, aka person to person. The reason you need another guy to perform it is because he is the source of the blood...

I like the idea of giving an incentive to survive, because right now, when freshly spawned, your life has zero value and you can bumrush the first person you see with a makarov. But i don't think that's the right way.

How about.... no. Your theory is entirely based on the idea that you are exposing hard facts and not your personal opinion. And personally, i disagree with those facts and claim they are only an opinion. Well argumented, yes. But i don't think that the social conditioning is that strong. Keep in mind that we talk about a complete social breakdown, there is no "going back home" and being subjected to the social construct again. It's gone forever, when you spent a year in a ruined house, kept awake by the relentless moaning of the undead, cold, starving, you would be able to do things you would have never imagined before.

A lot of peoples here don't realise that retribution for our "sins" does not exist outside of an ordered society. There is no god to protect you, no policeman to avenge your death, dayZ is basically hunger games with zombies. -
It's there because with the bird eye view you can see pretty much everything. Not sure that it can even be turned off actually...

The though guy sounds like a nice idea, but we already have the military kind that does the same thing no? I wouldn't mind the variety, same way we have the runners, crawlers and gorillas. But no "special infected" pleaaase...

How to balance out the weapons: easy way

I could probably write a statistical algorythm that automatically adjust ammunition spawn for each weapon based on kill stats, if rocket can pull out which weapons was used for each kill. -

The problem to me is that your suggestion is based on the idea that the dayZ experience has to be "gamified" with some kind of "capture and hold" mechanic. It's an interesting idea but it goes against what dayZ has been so far, a social experiment with no directions, where the players shape the world by their friendly or hostile actions. We can already fortify towns if we really want to, the advantage of the current state of things is that it's not enforced. Your suggestions would basically put a reward on a minigame behavior that is strictly PvE, and if you want to stand behind a barricade watching zombie bodies pile up there are games that are much more suited to those mechanics, like "Killing Floor" and "shoot many zombies" (nothing against those games they are a lot of fun) Personally, i'm partial to a dayZ that continues giving no directions where it comes to short and long term goals and that doesn't enforce a specific type of morality of values, and i'm sure a lot of players (and maybe rocket, who the hell knows) agree with this imperfect, chaotic and violent status quo. So far, dayZ walks in the footsteps of the canons of zombie movies of the eighties and more recently the comic "the walking dead". The the zombies are a background canvas on which is depicted the struggle of humanity to survive from a new, harsh and lawless environment, and from itself. -
It was very clear to me from the begining, have the game change as players get their bearing to push them out of their confort zone. I would love to see cherno evolve into a zombie infested tincan wasteland where no one dare go. At least for a little while.

Ultimately rocket can kick any server that misbehave out of the project. If you don't see how it can be a problem if they only have zombies to worry about, you haven't played this game enough. The best gear is hard to obtain because other players are ready to kill you to secure it, not because of the amount of zombies. On a passworded server you have no such thing, and there is no reason why a clan could have their own little farming server so they can go wreck havoc in public servers. It also mean their equipment tents are safe on their private server, hell they could have gearing tents on the beach of their server to re equip right after being killed, entirely negating the perma death. -
There is a hand held grenade launcher, which can obviously take flare grenades.

How to Zero your sniper and other goodies!

Bullet drop and bullet travel speed, i don't recall the exact speed, but the speed of sound is around 300meter per second, so a bullet going at the speed of sound still need about a second to reach a target at 300 meters. So zeroing AND movement compensation. As for estimating the distances, there are tricks that you can use that involve measuring the size of your target, since most human beings are about the same size when standing (bar a few extremes) you can get a pretty good idea of your target's distance from it's height in the scope (fixed scope guns only). Some sniper rifles have helpers for this inside the scope's optics, for example, the russian pso scopes You can put your target between the flat and the curvy line and it will give you a rough estimate of the distance from your target. Another thing, sounds in arma travel at 300m/second, so you generally see the muzzle flash of a remote shooter before you hear the gunshot. That means you can see your assassin's muzzle flash before the bullet goes through you. -
Food and water being used offline

NO FOOD OR WATER IS CONSUMED OFFLINE PERIOD. All that happen currently is that your thirst and hunger decrease offline until the red blinking state and then stay there. So all the planning you have to do is to have at least 1 food and 1 drink on you for the next time you log back on. -
that's a fairly expensive passtime tho considering the fuel requirements
