Personally i think players should simply learn to orient themselve, with or without a map.

Firearms Should Not Be The Main Instrumentality Of DayZ
Lady Kyrah replied to hoak's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
One thig you have to keep in mind is that this mod is not a democracy, this is a "suggestion" forum, not a "community vote" forum. Ultimately Rocket will do what the hell he wants with his mod, wether it ends up pushing away a part of the community or not. What is up with people who always assume that modders wish to please their community at any price, modders start their project first and foremost for themselve, not for you, me or anyone else. Thinking that something will happen jsut because "the majority wants it" is kidding yourself. From my experience as a game designer, there is one thing players are extremely good at, it's making bad suggestions. A player generally see the game from his own little corner of it and fail to grasp the big picture of how the different mechanics interact with eachothers. They also generally fail to grasp the vision of the developpers which is not always obvious or in line with what the players think the game is about. An example, i played a mars colony simulation beta game, you could play with 4 other players and had various objectives to fullfill. Initially you think having everyone out and about is the most efficient way to do things. Then you realise you need a player at any time in the main module to warn the others in the event of a storm and to quickly fix eventual breaks in the life support systems. When a storm hit, everyone HAS to find shelter until the storm end and there is basically nothing to do until then. That was a concious design decision to make players interact with eachothers and talk during this time but so many moaned and thought "storms should be shorter". -

I Personally want less guns with snazzy optics. This isn't BF3 where every soldier is worth half a million dollar in equipment, this is hunting rifle and rusty AK country! :D I'm pretty fond of shotguns personally. I think we only really need 2: -Double barreled -Pump action However what i wish we could have is a couple of "speciality" amunitions beyond the pellet/slug which are not unreasonable to find such as: -Pepper blast (could induce coughing, shaking and blurred vision in it's area of effect. -Blinding, "Flash" cartridge. -Heavy buckshot (triple decker for example) -A working type of birdshot (because yes, you CAN shoot birds!) -Rhodesian jungle maybe? (mix of buck and bird shots) -
Dude, you do realise that this doesn't affect screeshots right? most of those settings affect what's coming out of the graphic card and entering your display panel. OP, We already have BattleEye doing it's stuff in case you haven't noticed. Gamma and brightness are here for a reason, not all displays are equal and not everybody can afford professional colorimetric calibration.

Why isnt this fixed yet? (ALT F4)(HACKERS)
Lady Kyrah replied to missingman11's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As for prioritisation, players are at the core self interested, selfish individuals, it is natural that, to them, the most important issues are the ones that directly affect them and not necessarily the most important problems that affect the game as a whole. That's why you see most mmo forums filled with buff/nerf demands while the devs are busy fixing more important issues :D -

Well you could say that cancer is natural, no one can live forever. Pretty much everything we do, in excess can lead to cancer, we could also just stop being excessive peoples. As for the whole "hacking" thing. The arma engine is full of holes because it is not designed for security, but efficiency. Before arma2 joining a game that was in progress was not possible. The key element of arma multiplayer is that it is distributing work to the players. For example in a regular arma game, if you are driving a vehicle, it is your computer that simulates the vehicle, not the server. Likewise, if you are a squad leader with 8 AI under your command, it is your computer that is doing the AI work for these soldier, not the server. It is especially obvious if you create a server without signature checks and join it with an improved AI mod loaded the AI under your command will beat the server ones every single time :) This is a game engine designed for private games where you reasonably know that each of the players involved want to play the mission as intended. Making it more secure means putting more work on the server since the clients cannot be trusted to do it faithfully. -
My small list of suggestion after some days of playing
Lady Kyrah replied to deadmeet's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Please avoid commenting how easy or hard it would be to implement this or that fix, unless you are a seasoned arma scripter. All those have been suggested before and are kind of obvious really. A lot of those problems are inherent to the arma engine and can't exactly be fixed by anyone else but Bohemia interactive. Wether they fix it or not depends if they consider it to be a big problem for their future games or if they consider it's a bug or simply a weakness of the engine.- 1 reply

Why cant the visuals look like this??
Lady Kyrah replied to moofactory's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I guess the average gamer just love brown. Also this map i believe is proving ground from the PMC addon, it DOES look very apocalyptic even without effects, dead trees and wild vegetation. -
Tell me if i'm wrong but i believe there is no thermal equipments in DayZ. If you got one, someone hacked it in, it's part of the regular OA weapons but should never spawn in dayZ

Penalties for soft drink, making water more beneficial.
Lady Kyrah replied to iPatchi's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
What could be nice is this: -Water: hydration. -Soda: hydration + low food + stamina boost + increased water depletion. -
This happened to my friend and I, because people can spawn in wherever they want.
Lady Kyrah replied to Gashed's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There is an easy fix to this, making it so if you dc during shock (if you took any damage), you die and your body stay on the server you last where on. -

Lady Kyrah replied to iPatchi's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In a survival situation soft drinks are actually pretty nice, hydration plus a nice sugar boost. It doesn't last thought. -
It's okay, it's just... frankly i'm amazed at what arma scripters can do, the arma scripting language is very awkward to work with because it execute scripts on the server and the client, and everything has to magically work together without desynchronising. If dayZ had source code access adding some things would certainly be easier than it is now.
-
No it wouldn't, not from an Arma scripting standpoint. What COULD work is that if you are close enough to a player that is doing the surrender animation, you get an option to take his gun from his hands, but guns take a lot of backpack space so... probably should just make it drop to the ground. So a scrollwheel action (easy enough to add) would trigger a weapon drop from the targeted player. For hitboxes, i know weapons have a collision mesh for when you turn around and get stuck in doors (that's your gun hitting the frame) but i don't know anything about separate hitboxes, i know most mods that use the zombie headshot mechanic do it in sort of a cludgy way.

Firearms Should Not Be The Main Instrumentality Of DayZ
Lady Kyrah replied to hoak's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
DayZ is presenting a zombie survival scenario, in most of the good zombie movies and stories it's nearly as much a story about survivor to survivor interactions as it is about survivor to zombie interaction. Zombies provide a common threat that is very close to humanity, in the sense that your best friend or your loved one might turn and then you will have to "dispose" of him. Signaling your friendlyness is difficult in DayZ because nothing can ensure you, or me that this gun is staying down, unless you basically drop it to the ground. But so is it in real life, if i recall, law enforcement consider anything that "looks" like a gun to be a gun loaded with live amunitions. You can explain all you want that it's a fake or that it's not loaded, they will only stop threatening you once you drop it. As for letality, well DayZ isn't exactly an RPG, a single bullet will down you in the real world, if it doesn't outright kill you, and that's what Arma simulates. It's common in arma to get killed by an enemy soldier ( human or ai alike ) that you didn't see, couldn't see, and couldn't have defended against. There simply IS no depth in real firefights, you can strategise all you want but ultimate it all boil down to who shoot the other first. It IS difficult to expect a civilized behavior from other people in a lawless simulation. Why do i have to trade with you if i can just as well shiv you and take your stock? Look at prison criminality as a good example of how a person can seriously hurt another for very little. The unlimited item pickup is a limitation of the system, we need food, ammo and drinks in this game. Loot spawn is a simplified mechanic to distribute it to the different players, feel free to suggest a system that behave more realistically ( just toss fairness out of the window tho ). If you increae scarcity you also will make those that are at the top of the foodchain much more dangerous to those at the bottom of it. It's already the case in a way. Newly spawned players are much less of a threat to eachothers since the makarov removal, and that's a good thing, but they are much more vulnerable to pretty much anyone. Sure, using our brains is a great thing for survival, but it is not everything, there is a reason why we say "survival of the fittest". In the case of DayZ i'd say it's about being bold and taking actions. You can be as intelligent as you want, if in the middle of the action you are paralyzed and unable to take matters in your own hands, you are useless. Zombie movies, and non zombie movies often portray two enemies face to face, each one pointing his gun at the other while they are verbally jousting, or trying to convince the other to team up. As much as i like this kind of cinematic tensions, this can never happen in a non staged situation. -
That's actually an exellent idea, have the hive allocate loot supplies for the day based on collected statistical data.

I recall that some games implement a cooldown on global chat to prevent lengthly discussions to happen there, something like 1 to 5 minutes between global chat messages.

Lady Kyrah replied to hoak's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oh, Well sorry i guess we all have to take your word as fact then. That one goes both ways. Yeah like a "Term of use" ever stopped anyone on the internet. I don't even know why i'm debating with you, you do not present any arguments worth my time. -
You think that they care? Peoples keep forgetting that this is not a "community project", they don't have to listen to anything we say.

Player Identification and Classification System
Lady Kyrah replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Good idea, so i can name peoples in my group in a way that speaks to me the most :D "Captain igloo" "Dr. Parkinson" "Loose cannon" It's a great concept, only issue is that peoples generally hate to type in games. -

Because your "anecdotal experience" is worth more? It's always the same people that are bitching and moaning about the PvP, they also happen to be pretty vocal about it. Taking the temperature of this forum is pointless anyway, anyone can join and create 1, 10, 100 accounts to validate their jaded point of view. -
Lots of interesting ideas here, so i'm gonna go point by point. - Car keys : I'm not sure about the interest of this feature, any old crowbar or axe will do quick work of your trunk lock, and for starting the car? I always assumed everyone simply hotwired those rustpiles on chernarus. - Car hacking tools Meh, see what i said before. - Housing / Bases locking, is a typical modern world idea (that locks are somehow magic), after a couple hours of practice, anyone can lockpick your average house lock. You could have to do a lot of reeinforcing work, the lock is only one aspect, what about the windows, or simlply setting up traps. Your forest shack can't really be a bunker and will only last so long against a dedicated burglar. Simply kill him. - Garages Sounds like someone is coming from GTA, i'm okay with this, but to me it's just a building big enough to put a car in. - Experience I'm not sure about "level requirements" but i do believe there should be a good incentive to survive as long as possible. - Penalties Not much to say about this, the only idea i had that would somewhat work (yet doesn't make sense) is that for every other player you kill, you need to wait 5 to 10 more minutes to respawn, in the case of a compulsive killer, it would put him out of the picture for several hours. - Throwing stuff I agree that would be nice, but i doubt we will see it happen. - Hiding stuff The base idea is interesting, but your implementation will be on every dayZ map guide in less than a week. - Notes I agree. - Swarms THey shouldn't move randomly i believe, this is the kind of stuff that would be atracted by vehicle noises, firefights, explosions and helicopters. - Shops Ermmm what? - Safe zones That's just a terrible idea, it's one of those things you really have to do yourself. - Ships Raid dungeons? seriously? - Selfmade skins You DO know that you can make your own face in photoshop right?

Logging out in shock should kill you
Lady Kyrah replied to Mooseocalypse's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You should wait until shock goes away to disconnect imho. The thing of going unconcious when you DC out of shock assume that you will reconnect on the same server, which simply isn't happening. If you DC while in shock, you should die, and your body should be on the server you DCed from. -

I disagree it is not deathmatch, you have no idea the amount of people who simply let you walk past them without attacking you.
