PvP and PvE servers (with a twist)

I'm against any form of separation because gamers are lazy and will always pick the path of least resistance. Rocket stated it wasn't in his plans anyway sooo... if PvP isn't your cup of tea, you should play a different game/mod. There is a bunch of cooperative zombie missions for Arma2.

Your own face in the game

The game already support this feature. http://forums.bistud...-do-it-in-ArmA2 You just put file named face.jpg with proper dimensions (256x256, 512x512 and so on) in your profile folder. And in the game, in your profile, where you select face and voice, you set it to "custom". Template here: http://img524.images...emodelarma2.jpg
  3. So the ability to carry an extra backpack at the cost of the primary weapon? That's an exellent idea actually.

Tips and Tricks on the loading screen

"There is never a friendly in cherno" "The bigger the weapon, the more zombies are atracted by it's sound (whenever this is fixed of course)" "Don't trust anyone at first sight"

    Browser get rid of Gamespy....

I do not see anything wrong with gamespy, having to manage a server browser is a pain in the ass as a small company. Why not leveraging what's already there and work?
  6. In a videogame you have to strike a balance between realism and clunkyness. You really want to spend time in dayZ refilling your empty mags? Most games do not simulate this aspect because there isn't a whole lot to gain from it and a lot to lose in term game flow. Now i wouldn't be against the idea, i simply do not see a way that doesn't make managing it a pain in the ass.

    Frying pan?

A Final Solution to the Bandit Problem

A "Final solution" ? Oh god this is bad :D

    Making forests scary at night.

This is what happened as they played chernarus apocalyps the first time. This is when they actually looked for the forest "thing"

    CryEngine 3 - Possible?

Pretty much. Dayz would work well on Torque3D :) but that's because it's my favourite engine so i'm biased :D In all honesty moving to another engine would be counter productive.

    Making forests scary at night.

What could be fun, but it's probably not working well with the DayZ background, is something in the line of the chernarus apocalyps forest "monster". Basically the forest is safe during the day, but during the night you will be killed if you remain for too long in the woods :) I know "I" personally would love something like that, genuinly frightening stories to tell.
  12. 1. I agree, it would be nice if zombies would follow a less evasive path, they want to eat you, they aren't having second thoughts about it. 2. The concept of "end" game is overrated, to me we need more opportunities to start over in some ways. I know players who felt "relieved" from starting over and losing their gear because it made the game fun again. Ultimately, after you secured your survival, the challenge is to keep what you have from raider groups, and ... well raid them. 3. I moved all the arma assets to my SSD drive, no regrets, it's simply that your disk is slow :/

Taking down the server gives advantages to the admins. They decide when they want to fight for their stuff and only when they wish to. If they are subject to a lot of attacks from looters, they can decide to turn the server off until the attackers get bored. It's a vault. Those guys have other servers that are running 24/7. So yeah , a few guys fill their inventories/backpacks of goodies on their other servers, or... any servers really, move to green mountain and log off. They bring their "protected" server up, everyone logs on, put the goodies in the tents under the watchful eyes of a few thermal and snipers, do whatever they have to do and then turn it back off.

    CryEngine 3 - Possible?

By going on another engine Rocket has to start from scratch, learn the engine, produce every single assets from models to textures to sounds. If he stays on RV he get to use an engine he knows, maybe sourcecode access and he get to recycle the huge asset database that Bohemia made for all their games since, shall i remind you, Rocket is a BIS employee. As for what you call the "strafing" issue when leaving buildings. Arma handle your collisions and the collisions of your gun, 99% of the games out there, the gun in your hands doesn't actually exist from a physical standpoint. You cannot move properly inside a small house with a long weapon sighted, you have to lower it.

    Dedicated servers

Having thet many players on a single server is problematic from a server resource standpoint.

I agree, but hell, as long as it's down they do not risk any raiding from the angry forum mob in this thread that want nothing more than to teach them a lesson :) I could see myself walk in with an inventory ful of satchel charges... Oh wait, that wouldn't do anything they would turn the server off immediately to use the rollback bug.
  17. I know enough to figure that you don't know anything about game development or we wouldn't be having this discussion.

    HACKERS ARE DESTROYING THIS GAME

    A wrong doesn't make a right.
  19. I'm gonna play devil's advocate. How do you KNOW a hacker spawned behind you. All i see right now is the tale of someone pretty butthurt.

    HACKERS ARE DESTROYING THIS GAME

Rollbacks are against the server host rules FYI
  21. Lady Kyrah

why forced use of beta patches?

I don't see where the problem is if they find an engine bug they push it back to BIS and just ignore it.
  22. Usually instead of criticising peoples that work in a field i know nothing about, i shut the hell up.
  23. The source engine by default assume that the user cannot be trusted, as a result all the decision making is done by the server and nothing of importance is left to the client. And when it is, it is double checked (can this player really move there?). The only thing the client is allowed to do is trivial stuff like predicting where bullet holes are on the walls, lag compensation, movement interpolation etc. The arma engine was designed to be used by the military and until arma 2 it wasn't possible to join a game in progress. It was also designed to leverage the client's power to reduce the load on the server. Example, if you are the leader of a soldier squad in arma, your computer is the one simulating all the AIs under your command. The point is that this system is designed for efficiency, not security, get the clients to do as much as possible. Preventing cheats on this kind of system is going to be .. difficult.
  24. The term "EVIL" is pretty funny. Killing someone else for survival is not an evil act, i guess you could subjugate sadism, aka the pleasure of inflicting pain to another, but killing is not evil, it's just extremely counter productive in most societies and cause grief to those left alive.
