In order to protect players from abusive hosts and host based cheating, only accept new servers from trusted managed hosting providers. -No direct access to server files. -15 Minutes delay before restarts (to prevent the two minutes "rollbacks") automatically announced ingame. -No passwords or locking (according to the server host term of service). -No ability to enter the admin panel ingame. Before the inevitable flame war... /me puts on her fireproof suit. My suspicions is that a lot of clans are hosting a dayZ server for personal gain instead of providing servers for the community. I suspect a lot of them are actually cheating through various methods, from kicking all non clan members, to simply failing to report cheating done by a clan mate. On top of this, the new log parsing trend is simply unacceptable, under the guise of fighting cheaters some admins took upon themselve to review every single piece of data going to and from the Hive. Which means that any player tent/vehicle and whereabouts are potentially compromised. Fighting cheaters doesn't mean becoming one.

More incentives for non-hostile play
Lady Kyrah replied to samsonite's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would love to have more things to do in the game, hell "projects" but not something scripted, but yeah there should be more to do than hunt beans, fill canteens and shoot anyone taking your beans. -
Until some issues are resolved why not give admins the right to ban anyone they want?
Lady Kyrah replied to auraslip's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Because once they give that right they are never gonna be able to take it back. -
Zombies are spawning much to fast. Clearing areas makes no sense - they respawn like in an arcade game! Very unrealistic. This must be changed.
Lady Kyrah replied to Kingsix (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You cannot win against the horde of the undead. The safer the weapon is to use, the more noise it makes and the more zombies it atract. You will never "clear" them off, once you get a n exit, you need to move somewhere else before the rest comes (at least that's how i would like to see it work) -
So .. you guys advertise for an unofficial hive on the official forum...

It's not "incoming" it's being "considered".

Are there any server hosts that give you full access to the Server Files such as the Server.cfg?
Lady Kyrah replied to sheely69's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Why do you need access to it? Most of the settings in it you won't be allowed to change if you want to host a dayZ server, and the rest is either available from your GSP and/or security related and you would be a fool to disable them. -
Here's a suggestion, stop the fucking hackers!
Lady Kyrah replied to Kerrby's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
OP Stating the obvious? I don't think there is a need to "suggest" that kind of things :) -
Yes.

The server report section. If it's a server connected to the public hive and it's passworded, take a screenshot and report it. If it's not connected to the public hive, it's still not okay but there isn't a lot the dayZ devs can do about.
-
Running a passworded server is not allowed by the DayZ dev team, you should report said server in the proper section

It's already the case, the game simulate moon phases seasonal light adjustment and the star procession during the years. Unless there is soething wrong, grab a calendar and try to log into a night server when the calendar say it's full moon.

Lingor Island to be the next official map release? Clearly the people want it!
Lady Kyrah replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well even if it was in the tubes, the dayZ team doesn't have the rights (intelectual property) to integrate lingor to dayz. -
That's why the clothes work this way, so you won't kill other players just to get their outfit. You can't take their outfit unless they remove it themselve.

The manner and mechanics with which zombies attack - suggestions.
Lady Kyrah replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The animations are not very convincing but... zombies are not trying to punch you to death, they are clawing and biting basically. The bleeding mechanic doesn't exist in the normal game so i can reasonably say that the game is making you bleed on purpose when zombies hit you. -

You are approaching this the wrong way, you have the (wrong) expectation that the zombie horde can be "cleared" through force, that a frontal assault will give you victory. This is not the case. -
DayZ isn't a game where you have to pvp, there is no victory tied to it, peoples PvP because they want to, or feel that they have to, there is nothing in the rules that say that they have to PVP. So in essence a server could have a LOT of pvp going on, or none at all, it's all up to the players.

Well guns can be crafted from just about anything you want if you don't care about safety or reliability. It only take a sturdy metal tube and something to strike the cartridge's cap. I know in an apocalyps scenario i would rather have a junked zipgun in my pocket than find myself face to face with a stranger with an axe...

What you are essentially asking is that the game play on your own terms. One of the big draw of DayZ is that everyone is affecting everyone in the game. There is no equal access to loot or locations, and you have to compose with whoever you are playing with, for the best and for the worst. Choice to tailor the game to your liking is nice in some games, but this game would lose it's appeal if it would bend to the wants and needs of everyone, it's an experience that you have to take as it is and let it wash over your face really.

"The only thing" You have pretty much everything else to do. Oh yeah, you might wanna make your own map since Chernarus is BIS's property. I understand this was just a proof of concept, still, everything remain to be done. Any engine can handle a huge map by itself, it's not a feat.

If the game is going to keep creating more and more guns through spawning, we need something to ensure that the amount of newy created guns is roughly equal to the amount of "recycled" guns. I suggest the central server adjust the spawn rate for each gun every week based on how many are in circulation at the moment. But then we also need a solution to limit hoarding. But example... if there is more than... let's say 2000 m249 the central server update the loot table for all the game servers so... m249 completely stop spawning.

it should probably always leak fuel, simply because it's a pile of rusty leftovers from civilisation.

i suggest everyone take their display through this little test -> http://www.w4zt.com/screen/ Should help you get your screen properly calibrated.

Scripters, Hackers, have more control than me, an admin.

Scripters, Hackers, have more control than me, an admin.
Lady Kyrah replied to beans's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No they don't, they signed a contract/term of service that specifically state that they aren't allowed to affect the gameplay. I suppose i need to explain myself a little more clearly. Yes, we have currently a pretty big hacker problem, but we also have a problem of server hosts being in breach of the DayZ Term of service and that's an issue too. So yeah, i'm all for Admins ensuring that their server is running properly and hack free. But admins are also players, and whatever power the Dayz dev team allow them to fight against hackers can also be used to abuse legitimate players or for personal gain. There are so many edge cases where i've een "this guy must be a hacker!" when "this guy" is just simply really good, or at the right place, at the right time. On top of hackers ruining servers we also have admin viliglantism, or even worse, admins that will use cheats themselve, either to combat hackers, or to give themselve an edge. I've had my share of server administration for various games, but i'm not that wealthy anymore, or i would probably host a few dayz servers. However one example i can give you was the minecraft PVP server i used to run. There was no play rules, the only thing was "do not hack, do not harm the server". I ended up hiding that i was the server owner to avoid players coming at me for X and Y reasons and actually never played as an operator. I wanted to PLAY, not become a worshipped god. But i know how it is, the temptation is always there, a player blow your camp or steal your precious goodies and it's always sitting in the back of your mind. "oh i'm gonna spawn myself in a bunch of glowstone, just this time" "oh i'm gonna ban this guy, he is driving players away" I've not always resisted the temptation, and we always make up bullshit excuses to justify our actions. Some of us have grand ideas that .. frankly are not what DayZ is about since they require specific "advantages" in order to be viable ( Green mountain radio for example ) Ideally if the game was mostly bug free and mostly hack free, admin intervention would be completely unneeded and we could all be mere players. This is a very important thing to understand, ingame admin presence in a well working game is not required, and if DayZ ever become hack free, players will expect you to stop presenting yourself as admins and become mere players. This is a game that will eventually only need someone to ensure the machine keeps running. I'm all for combatting hackers, but i will still chime in everytime the power used to fight against them is used for personal gain.
