Private hive servers run their own "meddled with" version of dayZ, don't expect anything to be identical to the official servers.

First person view, limited fov range to accomodate different screen ratio, fixed floating weapon setting and screen bobbing to reasonable values.

There won't be a global chat isn't it? Could be funny to have a russian gang, an english gang, and they wage war because of language barriers :) Classic.

Here is your train, lets be realistic here. There is absolutely NO chance for a group of survivors to maintain and keep in working order a full modern train. You could probably slap a small motor and a drive belt to this one, like this: And it can even be dismantled:

Building your own gun, something for the standalone.
Lady Kyrah replied to Puffy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would prefer kind of "mister fixit" improvements in the style of metro 2033, duck taped laser pointer, DIY tincan flash hider or spent shell collectors (possibility for hand reloading maybe?). Keep in mind specialised optics are quite fragile and some of them use specific mounting clamps and/or batteries that will be a bitch to replace. But if we get detachable optics, they should have windage and elevation knobs and everytime they are mounted on a new gun the windage and elevation should be reset at completely random settings. -
The real world analogy is kind of wrong because there are people that are good at nothing, and others that are as efficient as two. Thre are also jacks of all trade that learn everything they get themselve to fairly quickly. Skills are not a static thing they are something you learn through all your life and doesn't necessarily require teaching.

Realistic gun mechanics like Reciever
Lady Kyrah replied to freeman83's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So first, the Occulus is just a concept, there is the 3Dvisor from emagin that is already out and does the same thing . for head tracking, trackIR is an exellent technology, very precise and accurate (they both already work for arma) and for a custom setup they have the optitrack solution i believe. It would also bring an interesting reality, most of the DayZ players are not fit to jog across chernarus on a simulator :) But back on topic, "receiver style" weapon handling. -
Realistic gun mechanics like Reciever
Lady Kyrah replied to freeman83's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would like a bigger focus on personal skills, however there is two types of real life skills involved in a given situation -Thinking on your feet. -Mulscular memory. Most fps games, even those requiring a huge amount of skill only require muscle memory for the most time. Lining up for a headshot, reloading, crouching/proning at the right time, you don't even "think" about these things anymore. It's an easy system to setup, encourage the player to train himself to react to a specific situation. However, for me, these skills are as "noble" as getting used to work on an assembly line. After a while it is all automatic and you barely remember what you did during your day of work. Any idiot can become proficient at those skills. I want more skills that require active thinking, decision making, getting out of a bad situation, adapting to unexpected turns of events... I want less things that you can learn in a wiki without even playing the game or things that require no brain cells. -
How about you shut it and stop derailing the topic?

Push back those fixes to the "real" dayZ team then, that's the least you can do. I know about the level of administrative control generally encountered in games. Let me give you a counter example: BF3, you will never ever get access to the server files from any of the official providers. As much as i dislike this idea, it is the only way DayZ can offer a level playing field. I just have to glance in thos forum section to see a lot of servers do more than just policing, they are turning dayZ into what THEY think it should be. As for not getting through me, i can say the same for you, there is no way i can make you see reason, we each have an opinion that we believe to be right and true. @MrSherenai A mod creator deserve the same rights as a standalone game developper, they are not second class programmers. If you where to create your own mod, even if it's a free mod, you get to write the license terms everyone has to accept to use it. To me, the problem is that this is the internet and that everyone think that as long as you cannot send a lawyer to their door, they get to have their cake and eat it too.

JUDO CHOP!

So you blame ... the trees? Do you have factual data backing your claim that a script is tied to every single tree?
-
No, YOUR argument is invalid, you claim that because traditionally admin enjoyed full power that it should remain so. "Maintaining a secure environment" that's the same bullshit argument that is dished out IRL to justify unacceptable security measures. The hacker problem is BE and the dev team's job. not mine, not yours. This game is a broken in progress project, it isn't a stable polished game that is ready for production but i sincerely doubt even half of the players are busy reporting bugs. The problem with you guys is that you never stop, you always need more power to deal with this and that, (or so you say) i now see non hive servers running PVE, or having new "rules" to steer the game in a different direction. This is not your game project, taking it, and claiming it as your own by modifying it or changing the rules is literally a spit in the face of the devs. "Oh yeah we like your thing, but we are going to take over from now because our vision is better than yours." Admin is a misnomers, the only dayZ admins are part of the dev team, "server host" is probably a better term.

Give Current Dayz Players Free Game Keys On Release

So you feel betrayed everytime a company work on a sequel? -
A system admin in a banking firm doesn't get to change account balance, even if he has the ability to do so.

"I'm a control freak and i cannot stand to get the rights i take for granted as a game server admin away from me" Game server admin rights are more or less a tradition of online video gaming, but it's starting to change, because games are becoming more and more a "service" rather than a piece of code treated as "goods". The strict definition of a server administrator is that he administrate, aka ensure that the system he is in charge of is running smoothly. He is entrusted with full power because his line of work may require them, but his role isn't to take decisions that affect the system, they are essentially the maintenance guy. You can imagine if the DayZ team could ship the server application in such a way that it is completely tamper proof, they probably would as it would be much less of a hassle. Personally i fail to understand why dayz is now tolerating private hive servers, it's their mod, they decide of everything about it, doesn't matter what you or I decide. If it was me, those hive servers would receive good old "cease and desist" letters from their server provider, most game server providers will pull the plug for less than that. But i can also understand that the dayZ team has better things to do at the moment, hence the presence of this forum section, rather than police something annoying and devote manpower to it, just ensure it's not polluting the main forum section.

Where did you see me talking about leveling up? I'm only talking about physical abilities, we are not equal we are all different, some are fast, some are slow, some are though and some are wimps. Life doesn't make everyone equal.

I would be okay for a point buy characteristic system because it adds variety between players, but not a "point" system like you would think: In typical rpgs you get things like, strength, dexterity, constitution, agility. In my system you would have to pick which is your best, and then go on til your worst. for example: STR 4 DEX 3 CON 2 AGI 1 you wouldn't be able to build an average character, with this system you would always have one "top" ability, and one really shitty, and have to deal with it.

This mod rely on a lot of static informations that can be gathered easily from the community. Increasing the challenge could be done by changes like these: Dynamic zombie density, not always in town, and not always the same density. Removing the ability to accurately map, loots (using dynamic loot spawning). Hide the damn debug menu, we don't need to know all this. Guns need to be more impredictable and eventually break, we are talking about untrained civilians stumbling on a gun that was left to the elements for possibly months. also: Removing the infinite running, beach to NW airfield come at a cost of a few minutes, you shouldn't be able to run away from zombies this easily either. Keeping your character healthy should be harder (need for more varied food?, make the environment more severely affect the player) The sequels of a firefight should last much longer (currently as long as you carry meat you can undo those sequels in a couple seconds.

Solution to +1 murder when returning fire
Lady Kyrah replied to seepra's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Totally i don't even see why we still have the humanity, it's about time that rocket realise it's a stupid idea that doesn't help the game in any way. The game cannot judge actions that depend from a context that it cannot understand. Ex: if i threaten someone to shoot if they get any closer, i'm technically in self defence if the person persist, but how do you model that in a game? Usually you don't. -
Solution to +1 murder when returning fire
Lady Kyrah replied to seepra's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Murder is murder, wether you where defending yourself or not. In a kill or be killed situation, if you really don't want to kill anyone... just die? -
A thought to reduce the shoot on sight only problem
Lady Kyrah replied to Vorg's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There isn't any pointless killing. There is always a reason into everything. However it might be a reason you don't want to hear about. It's easier to blame others for being irrational than to accept the blame for our own failure. -
So people are kickstarting on something that does exactly what eMagin has been doing for years?
-
Yes, everyone who isn't a friend i can rely on is someone who can potentially ruin my hard earned survival. If you watch high level quake3 competition you will see that a big part of the game is about controlling the resources in order to weaken the oppodent. As long as you deny access to the rocket launcher to other players, you keep the upper hand on them.

Corpse looting isn't so much of a problem. For me the big problem si that there isn't enough "good" items leaving the system, mostly because no one is crazy enough to leave a DMR behind. We need some form of item degradation, currently only the lesser pieces of equipments get reclaimed by the game, and any gun you get is your forever provided you do not die. I'm all for item degradation in order to stimulate gear cycling. Item degradation, but also weighted weapon spawning chances, ideally when there is more than a certain percentage of players with top tier weapons, top tier weapons and ammo should almost stop spawning.
