Sooo dayZ to the OP is permanently set "30 seconds after the outbreak" ?
-
Okay OP so lets pretend for a second that this is a sound idea. Can you explain why they should be punished?
-
I've seen a good example of this playing "Miasmata", you can pull out a tree branch (to use an an impromtu torch) from every bushes and fallen trees. Likewise, you can also pick a rock from any of the rocky shores, beaches and paths in the game. I'd say we need improvised guns too ... because i can't help but feel there is simply too many shiny high tech guns laying around in what is supposed to be a wasteland.

how to handle property - the issue when being offline

Is there such a thing as ownership when you are essentially looting the rubbles of a long gone society? -
Diving, Underwater Bases/Caves and Water Vehicle's
Lady Kyrah replied to Mountainhigh (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You can dive without breathing equipment in Arma 3 alpha for a couple minutes before dying, that alone would make for some pretty cool "seafood hunting" in the game. Add to this flippers (not unreasonable to find these) to swim faster and masks/goggles to see clearly :) -
You can always raid well equipped players, it's pretty much the same :)
-
I disagree, i think much work need to be done on the game from a "social experiment" standpoint. Code based rules lack the elasticity that would be required for "consequences" to work. People will do what they always do in games, skirt round the rules and turn them in their favor. Maybe when DayZ is more fleshed out and there is a LOT more to do than beating eachothers up we might see a shift. You have to admit that at the moment the game is probably covering 1% of what it should, at best.

Diving, Underwater Bases/Caves and Water Vehicle's
Lady Kyrah replied to Mountainhigh (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
At some point we are going to have to assess the main issue of DayZ, is that we have technologically advanced goods popping up from nowhere all the time: gas, bullets, rifles, cars, packaged food, etc etc... While i suppose we can portray a neverending "early outbreak", we should consider that all this ready to use equipment should be extremely rare and/or gone by now, because leeching over the remains of society is fine, but this isn't long term survival, a bag MRE should be seen as a rare delicacy, much better than eating grubs gathered from under a rock. Scuba bottles are the typical example of a modern "luxury" equipment, pumps to cram 250-300 bars of air into a diving cylinder are loud and/or require lots of energy. I'm not saying that we shouldn't have them, but that it should come at a serious cost. After the outbreak, energy production is a problem, especially to power equipments coming from an era such as ours, where energy cost very little and is used very inefficiently. Rebreathers :/ It's another example of a high tech system that is only possible in a society that can extract and bottle pure gasses, since rebreathers use pure oxygen and co2 scrubbers to refresh the exhaled air. Now i'm not against the ideas, but i think we should figure out more involved ideas of maintaining advanced techs "by hand" rather than adding constantly more and more 'lucky finds' . -
Why are heros special and admired? Because they are rare. Selfless people who act for the common good are extremely rare. Because they are doing something good and asking nothing in return. Because they are going against what is safe and can profit them in order to do "the right thing". Of course, the "right thing" is a very subjective topic.

Good and Evil meter will affect the gaming experiences
Lady Kyrah replied to LKMoonS's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Good and evil...; ARE YOU FOR REAL? There is no such thing as good and evil outside of an established society, every actions we take have a context and depending of the frame of reference we are in. Killing is neither good or evil in itself, it depends of the context. -
It's not a deathmatch, but your experience may vary.
-
I don't even think we have tree huggers... But yeah, the modern gamer consider that everything that doesn't please him is a bug.
-
What part of survival isn't compatible with "surviving the remains of mankind" ? I do get tired of people calling names those who kill them. What makes you think you're so superior dammit. Refusing to fight back doesn't make you better than your bully, it makes you a human carpet.

Me gusta... captured players should remain logged on as NPCs tho.

I'm not sure the term "illegal" is right however :)

Addressing the two biggest complaints regarding First Person
Lady Kyrah replied to guyver1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I could argue that we can see ourselve in first person too, and always have, pretty much the same way i see myself everyday without the use of a mirror. The oldest mirror in the world exist in the game. It's called water. I could also argue that the FOV put your own awareness of what is going on in your own hands. If someone sneak up on you it's your own damn fault because you didn't look. And with the free look you have no excuses not to take a peak around every now and then. It also ENABLE players to be sneaky, which the 3rd person view completely neuter. -
I thought i would mention that a sawn off shotgun still has the same recoil as it's unsawn counterpart. the point of a sawn off shotgun is to make it less bulky to carry (under a coat).

how to handle property - the issue when being offline
Lady Kyrah replied to joe_mcentire's topic in Suggestions
But at the same time, "not" giving it away would make everything you made "protected forever" as long as you remain offline, and we can't have that either, otherwise you might aswel have a bank system. I mean if you where to get attacked, would you really win? You might very well lose too. -

My two cents, ownership doesn't "exist" in a natural sense, it is a purely artificial human invention. It is natural that such a principle become difficult to uphold in a state of lawlessness. -

Dayz going to inherite animation nightmares of Flashpoint.
Lady Kyrah replied to grinya's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oh god this stupid "old engine" argument again. THEY MADE THIS ENGINE. They can modify it and improve it as they see fit. They are not modders trying to get the engine they chose to do things it wasn't ment to do. They can change anything in it if they feel that they need it.* Most of these assumptions come from source engine modders complaining that the engine is limited and that valve isn't really doing anything about it. Newsflash, valve likes to make small enclosed levels, they don't need to change the engine to support huge open worlds that they will not build. No sane developper in the world starts from scratch when they have OLD AND PROVEN code they can work from. New code need to wistand the test of time. -
1. We currently have very little informations about the PS4 when it comes to hardware specs and software environment, it's an x86 cpu tho. 2. Develloping for consoles require to aquire a license fee. Those licenses are not really cheap. 3. Consoles usually come with their own Devellopment environment, which means training people to do the porting, which take time and/or money. 4. Controllers have a limited number of keys, Arma based games usually have quite a wide array of controls required. It's generally easier to design a game with a gamepad in mind from the ground up and then porting it to general purpose controls than the opposite. 5. Console users are a very different market and have different needs (game wise), what you play in a relaxed environment such as your living room on the sofa isn't the same kind of games you will play sitting at your computer.

give us what we (do not) need! - junk and unique loot

Any shard of glass can be used to reflect the sun in someone's eyes FYI... -
Yeah it's the classic booby trap grenade design. Variations include putting the grenade in a box and closing the lid over the spoon, or under a dead body, anything that will hold the spoon in place until someone mess with it.

Pretty much yeah, our legal system already has so much trouble figuring out who has to be punished and who has not :)
