There is only so much you can cram in a game before your rendering budget becomes a problem.
-
Just doing your catching up on the walking dead i see?
-
I thought people came to dayZ to play the zombie apocalyps. The super moddable game is arma3.

Picture in picture more or less boil down to how much fps "headroom" you have left. You have to render the scene twice every frame: once for the PIP and a second time for the while screen, with the PIP texture applied.

Looks like good lods, and yes the lod swapping behavior is directed by the graphical settings chosen by the player. You could try your little attack of the sawblades again and see how the addition of lods affected the framerate. -
Didio forget to mention "after the apocalypse" ? You know, without power to run a lathe or a milling machine.
-
I didn't ean bullpup specifically, i ment anything that you cannot repair once the factories stop running.

I don't think they are planning to add airsoft guns. trolling aside, enough with the damn hi tech weapons already.
-
And the rest isn't worth adding :)

I am reading that the main criticism about BDUs for instance is that they are designed around durability and practicality at the price of an increased heat retension. The open weave construction tend to reduce this overheating problem but is easily penetrated by tropical insect bites increasing disease risks. It stands to reason that a motorcycle jacket will protect you better from zombie bites than bdu.

Some Biology Tips for the new "Die by Disease" System

Excepted you cannot develop an imunity to cancer :) -
I would love a wound system that value players who have some medical knowledge personally, something deep enough that only a handful of players can become very proficient at it. As for ace, taking their work would be plagiarism.

What is it with people that think army gear is necessarly better at everything?

(SA) Military weapons are getting rarer, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be lots of guns to choose from.
Lady Kyrah replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well all the tents, and player inventories are stored in the central hive, so the central hive (as it is set up right now) can in theory do analysis on it, daily or weekly and send to game servers "updated" loot tables. -

Make them break, make the bullets stupidly rare, make the weekly drop rate of each items be weighted based on the amount found the previous week. The amount of unbroken M4 in the game doubled? divide it's drop rate by two. The better and more dedicated players get at finding specific high value gears, the harder they become to find, until they stop dropping entirely and the only way you can get one is to take it from someone else. When the amount in circulation goes back down, it starts to spawn naturally again. -

I know i'm gonna come out as a douch for this post, but here we go... A word of advice, keep these small assets as light as possible, they are clutter objects, even if they are loot elements, their impact should be minimal. -As few triangles as possible on the models. -Small textures if possible (and only dimensions that are powers of two). -Resist the (dark)atraction of smooth cylinders. A good rule of thumb to decide on a proper texture resolution is to try to place the object in typical usage situations in relation to the player/camera, if your object is usually 100 pixels wide on screen in 90% of the cases, it is pointless to have a texture that is any sharper than that (it doesn't hurt to have it on hand but don't spend time on details that will never be seen). Model wise it also depends on the typical use case, Horde could go a liiittle cheaper on the sawblades in my opinion, is it necessary to have the tungsten carbide inserts modeled? how about the teeth curve? Unless it's a first person view model of course. The only models that deserve to be as detailed as possible on FPS games are usually first person view guns, because they are sitting right next to the camera, and that you only have one displayed at any given time (guns you see on other players are not at the same LOD as the one you see in your hands. I know a lot of you make these as portfolio/screenshot/showcase pieces but when it comes to game models, less is more. -

Details on how the new server-client network technology should work
Lady Kyrah replied to WockaWocka's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
WockaWocka... In none of your topic where you even close to making sense to the reader. Also if i read you right, what you described is already happening, the further away an entity is from a player entity, the less update packets are sent by the server about that entity. Your posts make no sense, for technical and non technical readers, mainly because either you don't know what you are talking about, are you are not fully explaining what you are talking about, which then comes out as a bunch of half baked nonsense. So if you know what you are talking about, please try to be more verbose and precise in your explanations. -
Use of advanced network technology like Pikkotekk
Lady Kyrah replied to WockaWocka's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There is always a "limit", in this case, one of them is the customer's bandwidth, the other is the processing power server side, because all these entities, if they are AIs have to be processed at some point. There is no "revolutionary technologies" out there that will change everything, there are technologies that do things in a more or less efficient way, but none of them is a silver bullet. Please let the devs do what they do best. -
I still think we need less and less "old world tech" and more things that are about survival. Scavenging snacks from a supermarket is not survival it's early days looting, prepackaged snacks and factory made products should be RARE and precious, your average meal should be a squirrel on a stick or the occasional dog meat. That goes the same for guns, guns might be very very sturdy, but ammunition factories are not running, neither are reloading powder manufactures.

In an effort to make serious contributions to the game, I wrote a white paper detailing salient design issues.
Lady Kyrah replied to Jsteiner's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
For the amount of "effort" you've put presenting your argumentation i was surprised to only find two pages. Kind of a case of all "form" and no "substance". For what you wrote, the forum would have been plenty and would have spared everyone some time. But i digress. Anyway, i'm against the idea of being able to secure some form of permanent progress. Death should essentially symbolise "go back to square one". What needs to be done is to raise the bar quite a bit, being able to experience all the game has to offer in a couple of hours, even with the treat of permanent loss of progress isn't enough to keep everyone busy. Ideally, it should be practically impossible to experience everything the game has to offer in a single playthrough. -
Random Earth Quake events that aggro all Zeds

You are confusing major outbreak and christian apocalyps. -
I guess after the apocalypse, the number one priority of survivors will be to fix and maintain the only vehicle that is both loud, huge and follow the most predictable path ever?
-
What do you call a "vastly superior technology" ?
-
That's if they do not enforce aiming deadzone like in red orchestra.
