How about, instead of a full color image you can only make a stencil? aka, your picture is in black and white and the game then could tint it so it doesn't stand out too much, like depending of the clothes you are wearing or the vehicle it's on. This would greatly limit the eyesore potential.

    Zombie bait

I don't think there should be a way to turn the zombies into an asset...

    Why aren't PvE servers allowed?

But what's wrong with putting everyone under the same ruleset?

Accuracy comparison: DayZ vs ARMA 2

I don't want to shoot down the OP but, are we sure that the values in files are used as is and match what actually happen ingame? Could it be possible that they increased weapon inaccuracy to reduce the certainty if firefights? making them dangerous and unpredictable? Basically tone down the importance of individual "mouse" skills?

It is, the EULA state what you can and cannot do with the software you are using, it's never "yours" the only thing that is yours is the right to use it according to the EULA.

    Why aren't PvE servers allowed?

Ultimately you're leasing the server software, it's not your property, it's the same as complaining that your landlord won't let you repaint the house and add a new window.

    Why aren't PvE servers allowed?

Because that's not the game they are making?

    The KOS conundrum, problem/solution.

Another one of these "killing people make you insane" topics. Too bad op, i stopped reading when you brought this fallacy.
  9. AND NO PRIVATE HIVE. It seems that the main reason people want private servers is that they refuse to lose control on their game environment, they want to be able to punish players that do not play how they think the game should be played, or they want to turn the game into something it isn't. Others want to be able to play "only with their friends" with password protected servers. To me, this goes against what DayZ stands for, you don't get to make the rules, nor do you get to pick who you play with. Just like real life, if you are stuck with people you don't like, you have to deal with it. If you let people start their own "community" they will try as hard as they can to make their server different from what DayZ is, just for the hope of being remembered, we already had a great example with the mod, with a million of pointless modifications that only cheapen the game. We don't need an easy mode, we don't need "options that let admins adjust the game experience they want", or "training servers" this isn't Garry's mod, TF2 or SecondLife, this is about taking in the full experience, it's also about losing and learning from your mistakes. Dean & co, find settings that you like and lock the game as such, no matter what they are we will be glad to take on the challenge you've set.
  10. By choice or because it's kind of mandatory to remain competitive?

    Reality Virtual Engine-Bad for DayZ

And all of this can be changed, this isn't a mod, they can do whatever they want with the engine source code, it's more a question of "do they feel that it requires fixing".

    How about no private servers?

Sure, to a point. Otherwise we might see people argueing that buildings should be semi transparent :)
  13. I know people who will simply drop something that they cannot solve in about 15 minutes, they are very frustrating to game with. So did you install the steam games? Nah, i found my login but then it asked me for a code and i got pissed.
  14. Why should we care who leave the game any way? As long as you already paid, from a business perspective whether you stay or not doesn't really hurt future sales. I get the feeling DayZ was adopted by people who are not part of the target demographic for FPS games.

    Discourage career bandits

    Oh it's this topic AGAIN!

    How about no private servers?

I have thousands of servers in my TF2 blacklist and it's still not enough, i still land on modified servers 9 times out of 10 when all i want is to play the game as it was made.

    How about no private servers?

They want a private hive to fix temporary issues? No, no white listing either, you don't get to pick who you are playing with. You're not supposed to have control over your gaming experience.
  18. Because this is not a democracy, ultimately the devs will either let us pick, or lock it down to one setting (which i hope they do) and no amount of crying will change it.
  19. It's not mouse acceleration tho, call it "maximum rotation speed". And it's there for a reason, be thankful it doesn't also has inertia making you turn past your target with heavy gear :)

Should I invest my time in 1st Person Servers?

What makes you think that server admins should have a say in how the game is played?
  21. To me the game is too focused on scavenging the rubbles of the old world, we do not create anything, we just loot things. I wish firearms where not so prevalent, mostly hand made designs cobbled together from scratch or scraps, highly inaccurate, and slow reloading. Food wise, i wish there was an accent on foraging and maybe some form of farming or animal hunting. As it is, it is my feeling that the way things are acquired isn't very realistic or even authentic but is more like the "power dreams" of a 12 year old.

Having a terrible time finding a Mosin.

Well not everyone gets to have a mosin.
  23. Game's gonna need to lower food drop rate methink.
  24. I don't really think a game should be built to cater to lets players, the lets play movement started without help from game developers, it will continue fine on it's own, it doesn't need to be "catered to".
  25. Of course but there are tradeoffs, first person is more immersive and makes combat more fair. It also allow players to use sneaky maneuvers that are simply not possible against a player who has eyes behind his head. It gives a real tradeof to going prone. I think the restricted view angle adds more interesting elements that it removes. 3rd person is a crutch that doesn't really solve what it's supposed to and adds more problems.
