bulletproof vests stop bullets, you get all the energy transfered to your chest, it knocks the wind out of your lungs but its still a small projectile.

Desperate people can have quick changes of heart. You meet this guy and fraternise, you are a little bit scared and he is afraid you might kill him too but you decide to do a bit of road together anyway, at some point you turn around and let your guard down, at this very moment in his head there is a dilemna: It would only take a bullet, maybe a whack of his axe to the back of your skull and he could have everything you had, and the loot he shared with you while you where together. After all its not like he really knew you, he was nice but he was simply trying to survive by not being a threat. So maybe he kills you, feeling slightly ashamed of himself but convinced that it was just a matter of time until you would have had the same thought. Or he does nothing and as you see him frozen in his thoughts you go "You're okay man?", and then he snaps out of it "Yeah I'm good, lets keep moving."

Would you like to see a snow zone and a radiation zone?
Lady Kyrah replied to HEV's topic in Suggestions
Well you could have a toxic city, some mining towns where abandoned after a mining accident set the coal vein on fire, you can't really "live" in those towns anymore because everything is polluted by the burning coal underground. -
Graphic cards have their own gamma settings. Plus what is an "acceptable range" that will cover every display the user can potentially have?
-
There is no knockback when being shot -_- bullets don't transfer this much energy.

Well if you don't mind suffering from frostbite even with a fire running because of the bone chilling wind :) -
I don't really see the need to categorize things in "tiers" but since we are at it i would go for two "renewable" and "non renewable". Renewable is everything you can find in nature, it's somewhat abundant but require effort to harvest (wood, stones, berries, animals,...)Non renewable is everything that predate the outbreak, it is extremely rare and precious (canned food, rifles, ammo, vehicles, gas)

An "ID" outside of a structured society isn't really worth much having to be honest, it's not like anyone will care who you are. -
Would you like to see a snow zone and a radiation zone?
Lady Kyrah replied to HEV's topic in Suggestions
I wouldn't mind a colder area ( a snow zone if you will ) but I'm not sure that a "radioactive zone" is consistent with the DayZ theme. -
Why should it not be allowed, wasn't this supposed to be the anti game? "It might be harder to deceive people?" You guys are suggesting to make it impossible, just to compensate your inability to realize that you are putting yourself in a stupid situation to begin with. And don't get started with the whole "IRL we have tell tale visual cues that someone is lying". Lying is a lucrative job in the real world and everyone is doing it, many people got rich from it and you wouldn't know unless they where strapped to a polygraph. What is this "indication" you would get in real life? Most people in the real world are blinded by prejudice and it only takes a suit and a well groomed appearance to be the most trustworthy person on the planet. Don't pretend that people somehow "sense" psychopaths because if we did we wouldn't be surprised every-time one of them does the news.

Which makes your "control" test invalid. What about players and zombies around tho?
-
And so for the millionth time again, The real question is, why should there be any kind of "retribution" for killing other players? Because lets face it, sometimes the goal IS to make you leave the server or deny you to play.

Modern engine don't bother with "cigaret butt savings" like these, the small gain you may have in rendering will cost you more time to do the check than going ahead with it. It's also understandable that crysis looked beautiful back then, Crytek has a pretty big art department budget since it's through pretty snapshots that they sell their technology.

well different morphology means more work to add wearables to the game, as if male/female was not enough work.

I answered from the point of view of "if i was the one making this game", re-read what i said if it wasn't clear.

Kyrah's little world of pain.

Does it matter tho? Never heard about artistic license? As a game designer, If you come telling me the night in my game is too dark while i think it's just fine there is a few possibilities: All the displays used by my dev team are uncalibrated garbage (you gotta admit that's probably not the case). Your display is not properly calibrated. My nights are actually dark (but that's what i actually decided so it doesn't matter). We have a different opinion on how nights should look like (but it's my call in the end so it doesn't matter either).
-
As much as i understand why you'd want that, gamma settings exist for a reason: Displays NEED some calibration to render the environment properly, especially in games that make darkness important. One way to solve this tho is to make nights a more contrasted experience ex: ->Gamma too low you won't see where you are going most of the time. ->Gamma set too high you won't be able to see anything as soon as someone slap a flashlight in your face (for example?) Just make it impractical to be at high gamma at night and people will stop doing it.

Yeah but why not, Your real life skills (what i call "knowledge" rather than skills, because hey we are all a bunch of armchair survivalists here) do not disappear when your character die, so if the only thing you risk losing is equipment, that's easy to bypass with a group or stashed supplies. And I'm against that personally, i think failure through your own actions or through the actions of others should be painful, one way trip back to the starting line.

Why not?

It should be like in Cataclysm-DDA really: -Skills are trained by practice, every level in a skill give you some basic crafting recipes. -Each crafting recipe used to practice can only learn you so much (no max leveling by crafting pointy sticks endlessly). -Books can be read to learn more recipes and are also a way to train skills (books have a minimum skill to read them and a max skill they can teach you). -How fast you learn is determined by your focus, aka comfort: well fed, hydrated and warm players learn easily, tired, hungry and wounded players don't. -All skills rust over time when not practiced.

Put in Helicopters, Humvee's with grenade launchers, and mounted machine guns
Lady Kyrah replied to over9000nukez's topic in Suggestions
They should just implement shooting out of windows for passengers of a vehicle. I hope the devs will make the gas stations dry and make you walk 10 miles siphoning gas from broken down cars to get a single jug of fuel. There shouldn't be a "go-to" place for gas, and certainly not the same fuel for cars and helicopters. -
Yeah but the community has almost zero leverage on the direction of the game development, if said game was struggling with sales, maybe, but this is not the case DayZ SA has been a commercial success so far and could probably afford to stick to to it's vision.
