Where are the updates? **crickets chirping**

Because they have money now doesn't mean they have to spend it. -
"Private Servers" exist and it does no good to report them
Lady Kyrah replied to thequantum's topic in General Discussion
You don't get it do you? You don't get to pick whether you are running a public or a private server, it has been explicitly stated that private servers are not available at the present time. There is no private server, only servers that are in violation of their usage agreement. -

I have rarely seen this on pc games, usually a handful of servers are provided and paid by the company. -

Nobody want to foot the bill, it's not like DayZ is a subscription game. And technically only a handful of companies have the ability to host servers, they just lease it. As for wether the rules should be broken or not, without acceptance of the server lease term of service you couldn't have a server at all. How hard is it to understand tho. There is only one way to rent your own DayZ server and it come with rules of conduct. If you don't like these rules, accept the fact you will have to play on someone else's, that's all. DayZ servers are not rented for personal or exclusive group use, plain and simple. If you disagree, well too bad as there is not going to be an alternative option, at least for now. -
is it me or does the experimental install run better than the stable?
Lady Kyrah replied to mjf6866's topic in General Discussion
*Shocked* You mean that it might be experimentally better for some?! -
need more players on the first person servers!
Lady Kyrah replied to qww's topic in General Discussion
I haven't said anything about cheating but since your camera is further in the back, you do tend to have your face planted in walls whenever you're moving in urban environment as a 3rd PP :) -

[DayZ Sound Replacement Video] Why Have you not hired this guy!?!?!

Still, you can OCD as long as you wish on something only when it's a hobby project. -
[DayZ Sound Replacement Video] Why Have you not hired this guy!?!?!
Lady Kyrah replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Maybe because they already have a sound designer? Different != better. Modders can always fiddle more and more on sounds, with more or less legal sources and more or less legal softwares. At some point the pros have to say "we are done with this". Also use the search function OP. -
Do You Belive Players Who Shot Unarmed And Friendly Fresh Spawns Are Bad?
Lady Kyrah replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Do you believe that good and bad exist beyond a blanket justification for parental ruling? -
second person view doesn't exist, it's just like "3rd party" there is no second party, it just means, someone "else"

That's if they do batching. Occlusion culling is very delicate balancing act between what you can gain from the occlusion and what you lose testing for occlusion. By experience it just doesn't work properly when there is a lot of objects as potential occluders. DayZ (and the rv engine in general) could probably benefit from autobillboards but there might be technical reasons as to why they aren't doing it yet (air vehicles?).

"Moral" is a very subjective topic. I'd say go for it as long as it fit your own code of conduct, don't let anyone impose his over yours.
-
You're not ment to corpse run tho.

Water is a very complex shader but it's only used once in a scene so it doesn't really matter. My best guess is that CPU transform skyrocket in cities due to the vast amount of unique buildings and varied objects. Add to this a boatload of textures, building interiors (remember that arma2 didn't have many interiors for a very good reason), and all the loot objects that can potentially be seen. (automated object to object culling being awfully slow it's prolly not used) Forests are cheap when it come to draw calls and transforms because they are just many instances of the same handful of already very optimized (draw call wise) objects. But that's still a crapload of triangles to render, so while you're saving up on draw calls, you have a massive amount of semi transparent surfaces to light, render and SHADOW (i'm stressing this part).

When the vector is the entire population of a country you tend to run out of bullets, especially with a virus with a long incubation time, which an engineered virus would have if the goal was to infects as many people as possible.
-
Yeah because the best way to fight an unknown and deadly virus is by shooting it :D
-
But how can you be certain that you do know what you're talking about more than my friends?
-
Does having good friends in the US count or do they also don't know anything? I did visit for a few weeks but i probably won't come too often as i don't appreciate being fondled by airport security :(.
-
Yes but each state is not independent and has hardly any say in important political decisions or foreign policies. So in the end the USA is still represented by a single voice. Where are the separatists? If you don't want to participate into the demopublican musical chair game, that's always an option.

I ment stuff like drinking from your canteen or reloading your gun, if you cancel your action of vaulting over a fence... what happen, do you stay on the fence? revert your movement? in the latter, how much quicker is it compared to finish vaulting? As for drinking and eating, dropping whatever you where holding is the quickest way IRL to "cancel doing it".
-
Only if you just drop whatever you where holding, otherwise we are gonna see people turn animation cancelling into a skill like in counterstrike.

At the same time, what do you expect them to put in separate threads, i think they do disk IO on a thread, model prepping on another and AI on another, or something like that. Multithreading isn't like flicking a switch, you need to figure out which parts of your application can run asynchronously on separate threads. When it comes to games it gets even harder considering that there isn't a lot that you can effectively do "while doing something else". Most of the cpu side of rendering is a process that goes from start to finish and where each step usually depend on the previous one, you can't multithread that.
-
"Dated"... I really wish people would stop spreading this kind of FUD, there is no such thing as dated code, it's called stable. Last time i checked the RV engine IS multi-threaded. Eh the x64 fad again, most games won't bother until x86 is definitely gone. All you really need to get the memory benefits is the DayZ executable to be Large Address Aware.
