Not all of them, but in our days of "zero technical knowledge required" turn key GSPs, all you really need is to be able to enter your credit card number and have some disposable income to be an "admin". Hell, it doesn't really deserve the title i think.

The devs don't get a cent of your server rental fees. So i don't think they would give a shit.

I believe EVERYTHING should have a use, from a spare shirt that you can shred into bandages to empty bean cans that can be turned into shin guards (lets be crazy shall we?), weapons should be dismantle-able into nuts, bolts, springs and other pieces of scrap that can then be used to repair something else.

Sniper rifles are definitely the embodiment of random irresponsible kills, you can just take potshots at people who will never be able to retaliate, without risks, or reason. In the confine of DayZ it really is the weapon class that embodies the "because i can" mentality. It also is constantly glorified in pretty much every war movie to date (nobody ever talk about the important role of the machine-gunner in keeping his squad mates alive :/ )

Petition: No more randomness in weapons, SKILL based combat.

I will also add that random spread is actually a deterrent to combat because to be efficient you have to move closer to your target, which makes him more likely to have the jump on you. It also reduce certainty in the outcome of a firefight, making it more likely that you will just decide to "live another day" rather than risk it. If anything, how you approach a situation and your placement should be more important than how well you aim. In the real world, most of the battle is over before the first shot is fired. -

And that's the issue, you cannot have the server take precedence on something like your aiming vector because there is no relation of causality, unlike walking for example where the server take your input and then tells you where you are now, sure you can move your camera somewhere else, but it will not let you shoot from that point or use objects, because even if you disregard the server's instructions, as far as its concerned, you arent' "there" When it come to aiming however, you do not have this relation, the server COULD consider that you cannot have turned your view this fast, but a small distance like rectifying gun sway is totally achieveable, even in a single update frame. You might not have autority on your position, but there isnt much the server can do to be certain that your firing angle is legit. -
You're landing on your ass maybe. Here is an idea, what if damage was based on velocity * mass ? When you fall carrying your own weight in guns and ammo it's probably not the same for your ankles than when carrying a cup of coffee.

The way i saw it was to get additional perks when you are willing to go the extra mile between "just surviving" and "taking care of yourself". It's the little things that make life worth living they say.

The server can send you sway data all you want, you can just ignore it. What makes dispersion more "hardened" against hacks is that the client doesnt know where the bullet will go once the server received the firing packet. Since it cannot be predicted client side, a cheat cannot compensate against it. Sway on the other hand require the client's cooperation, and since the bullet goes exactly where the player was aiming, its just a matter of stripping out the sway code, or compensate for it. Same for other things, blurred screen, ear ringing, (but also shadows, or GRASS) all these effects rely on the client cooperation and are suceptible to be manipulated. That's how ESP hacks work too, nothing is easier than injecting in the 3D view a marker that shows exactly where the client was told to play "mosing_reload.wav" -

Well... where you or i want the game to go doesnt really matter does it? -
Here is an idea: Make stamina deplete based on the rate of change of the player's velocity vector and tune it so it only become sgnificant for sharp changes.

Is drowning a better option?

See it would be much better if they moved to fictional "hand crafted" firearms, then nobody could come all 'gun nerd' waving facts sheets and ballistic charts. -

Oh you ment in the grand scheme of things, then yeah nothing is truly secure. Still the first line of defence is that in a game the server should assume that every client is trying to cheat. -
Too much faith in army methink.

Some things are completely cheat/hack proof, if you do not supply an information to the client, it cannot "guess" it, if you do not send to the client the positions of players that are outside the maximum view distance, a cheat tool cannot use that information to, lets say make a live map of all the players on the server. The first line of defense against cheating is to avoid providing to the client informations it does not need and to retrict client -> server communication to what is strictly necessary to play. ex: why would the player tell the server where he is? This is something a hacker can manipulate. Instead, make the client simply say wether it's walking, running, strafing, which direction it is facing. Good luck making a teleport hack if all the server accept from you is whether you are walking or running. Likewise for guns, even if someone is using an aimbot, even if the target is glued to the crosshair due to this, if it's too far away it simply won't hit because the server will apply a random spread to every firing vectors the player supply. It's the same as a password window telling you "invalid username or password as an error message", it doesn't tell you if the username is wrong/misspelled or if it's the password, because you don't need to know that if you are a legitimate user. -

However, sway is not cheat proof, spread being server side, is. -

Yes guns are more accurate in real life, however in real life the firing platform (you) is nowhere near as accurate as in a game. -
It's just a name. A distasteful name, but we arent in the business of good taste inspection are we? I don't think you can just shelve that into harassment until that person start actually harrassing players. Considering the mere presence of the person harrassment is a little far fetched.

I don't think a highly inapropriate bumper sticker will get you pulled over tho.

For good reasons, this isnt 1995, a game server is not a sizeable 'investment' anymore. Anyone can just pay the fee and get a server up from one of the available GSPs, no competence required or whisdom.

Why Were Helicopters "Overpowered" In The Vanilla Mod?

Can't have everything at the same time, look at FSX. -
Who said a compromise had to be reached? This is not a democracy.

Thats a falacious argument, having a racist/pedo nickname doesnt make you one. The only wrong you're committing is making some overly sensitive people uneasy.
