What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Lady Kyrah replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Server admins (which they really are not) ARE the public too, they don't need to know any more than the average player. -
What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

Yeah because the community can totally make the difference between cheating and an awesome lucky shot when all butthurt. This video made me smile a bit tho, clearly the server isn't doing all the proximity checks it should be (yet). -
I, think it should simply be your running speed. The more you carry, are hungry/dehydrated/wet/cold, the lower your running speed is. Also obviously having a weapon in hand should have an impact too. Having a rifle in your hands will impact your ability to catch a guy with nothing in his hands. Also stairs, inclines, etc...

No, because you are not to a point of self awareness that you can gauge precisely your own character's health. Being able to evaluate it is a good skill to learn, and it might take time. And i like that it makes the game different for you based on how as a player you assess the situation. Some players will waste tons of bandages, and some will always be "too close". I like that.

Easy != Accurate

Not your problem, let them run their company how they wish mmmkay?

Come on CHECK YOUR FACTS, they did not "change" to GoldSrc, they started with the quake engine and rebranded it GoldSrc after half life 1 was complete. This is not an engine swap, engines are evolving products. This "engine A engine B" stupidity is popularized by modders who have to PICK an engine because most engines do not offer source code access without a hefty upfront payment (and no source engine mods don't have what you can call source code access) Game developers don't have this limitation and their engine mutate and evolve based on what they add to it.

Oh yeah all of this is easy! No really, none of this is, and stop comparing it to the cryengine please. of course you HAVE to program those behaviors because without them there is nothing stopping you from going through floors and walls. It doesn't happen magically and has nothing to do with setting walls as solid. If you set walls as solid, the pathfinding code has to acount for it. NPCs and player characters in most games are not fully subjected to physics, full physics is for crates, barrels and destructible wooden shacks. Pathfinding in general doesn't interact with the physical simulation. Physic is computationally expensive and is bound to synchronisation problems when it's broadcasted on the network. Please, if all your experience with game engines has been toying with the crysis editor, if you've never stuck your head into actual engine source code, please don't spew "it's easy to fix this". You are assuming a lot about how things work. Games are all about creating an illusion on the cheap, because computers are slow. A lot of systems used in games are very far from real world physical accuracy but produce a decent enough result to keep the illusion alive. You want a good example? Half life 2: Pathfinding is made in the map editor and will ignore anything added while the game is runningVehicles have a strong tendency to remain right side up, to make driving easy.Zombies completely ignore the presence of physical objects in front of them when it comes to pathfinding, but are scripted to try to "punt" objects that are in front of them, to give the illusion that they are not.Zombies also ignore their path nodes if they see the player close by and simply run straight at him.Ragdolls (dead corpses) are not synchronised in multiplayer and every player get their own "local" version (gmod doesn't do this optimization and the lag gets unbearable with only a few ragdolls). Most of the background cityscape in the game use a separate camera that takes a 360° picture of a 1:16 scale "model" which is then applied to an inside out cube that surround the player's point of view (a skybox)

this line pretty much says it all: Rocket: It will kind of come in a modular fashion over time.

Yeah because it's unreasonable. Frankly until i see the actual "new engine" i'll sort this in the "PR talk for computer illiterates" folder.

When Map Making comes, in the far far future, what will you make?
Lady Kyrah replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Riiiiiight... they still own whatever they made, you know? -
If H1Z1 will have squads and clans at early access why ...
Lady Kyrah replied to Demonio (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
So... since when do we compare feature piles to decide which game is the better game when: One of the two is barely in alpha release stage. The other one isn't even at that point yet. -

A tiny desert island with a single hatchet spawn in the middle. -
How to locate where people are shooting?

It ... is? I haven't really paid attention but it's a standard Real Virtuality feature. -
Loot Availability discussion: Reality
Lady Kyrah replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
The only thing that dictate loot availability is whatever the devs decide to do, and then wrap whatever story they want around it. Do you really think they care about sticking to any storyline really? This is about gameplay. -
Loot Availability discussion: Reality
Lady Kyrah replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
It's just recycled assets, don't form conclusions where there isn't any, DayZ use a ton assets previously made by bohemia interactive. Because i pick a model i like doesn't mean whatever it represent get added to the game's storyline. And that's even IF the game is gonna have a storyline at all since this is supposed to be "your story". -

I don't know where people pull out this info from, it's more than likely that in the fictional universe of chernarus, none of these factions exist. Just because the game has some US guns doesn't mean the US exist at all in the lore. -
Click here They are basically special wood "stoves" where you burn some kind of combustible to heat wood or charcoal (without burning it) in order to release combustible gas which can then be fed to a regular combustion engine. Nobody really use them to be honest, the only time wood gassifiers have been popular was during war related fuel shortages. But that could be a possibility to run a car with a not too picky engine. Sincerely i really doubt there will be any military vehicles. Forget about mounted machineguns, i sincerely doubt that it will happen.

Wood gassifiers are awesome, read about them.

Relevant to what? Don't shove advertisement for mods here, i don't think it's the place.

What about something like the Piper Cub? It has some useable carrying capacity unlike an ultralight. It's a two seater (with dual controls i believe) one behind the other. Can take off and land on relatively rough terrain and in a very short distance (STOL).Has little to no electronics on board (save the radio i suppose) so it is relatively easy to maintain.Low speed, which is what is needed on small game world like Chernarus (otherwise you're like in the jets in BF3 which, even slowed down compared to reality are constantly hitting the map borders).

(Modern) Water purification / filtering !
Lady Kyrah replied to Combine (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
They are not infinite, and unlike boiling water on a fire (which isn't ideal but better than nothing) once it's gone, it's gone. It's good for disaster relief, it's good for home use, it's probably not a good idea to rely on it for long term survival (1+ year) without having a more long term solution. -
They also need a lot of watts. Portable generators are what, 2000-6000 watts? an space heater eat 1000 to 3000 watts, just to give you an idea of what any industrial machine might eat.
