I don't really fully understand you thread...it's confusing. From what I can make out, your suggesting something that you've discovered something already in-game? The player flies, do drive you nuts though. Got caught in a shoot out last night in the school in elekrto, already a lot of flies there and it was difficult to hear player movement over the top. Me and my mate went back there again about half an hour later when we were better equipped and you could hear nothing but flies. There shouldn't really be any artificial punishment in game, it should come from real life. Eventually, those bandits are going to fire at the wrong time so someone near-by will hear, and hunt their position and kill them. Just let the game take it's course, they will eventually get killed themselves. I know....because I was one of them.

Sidestrafe is the one who got me into DayZ, but now I can't stand to watch him. He misses soo much, and isn't that great anymore compared to some others. I know he is doing it live, which doesn't help, but there are others who can do both. Now it's Oshi7 and Sacriel who I watch. I do watch DaSquirrelsNuts videos as well as they're in the same group, but I prefer Oshi's and Sacriels gameplay. Some extremely good footage from those 3 with plenty of entertainment and action.

I don't think dropping it's damage would be the right way to go, but decreasing it's spawn amount would help resolve the issue. Infact I think there are a few guns (double barrelled as well) that too frequently spawn. It's a little too easy if you know where to look, but then there is a slight bit of luck put into the equation as loot spawns are based on percentage. You should stop being a douche. Alpha's in general are made for implementing gameplay elements. Bugs don't usually get fixed until beta. Just where this is a free, open alpha that is open to the public 24/7, they're having to adapt the development process slightly to fix any major game braking bugs, and any smaller ones they can fix to keep them busy as they're designing new elements and trying to get stuff implemented into a game. Not everyone on a game dev team can do everything, so people will be doing general bug fixing until theres something that they can do.

I don't think this would be possible until they have some sort of way to build walls in the game. That and also fix the server hopping. Only other issue is how are they going to be able to control the size and how many can be placed on the map. It could get to a point where the entire map is filled with peoples safe zones/ camps that it becomes near impossible to move around, or enjoy the current pacing/ setup of the game. As for removing the bandit skin. Im glad they did, a lot of people were getting skins because they shot one or two people in self defense, when someone shot them first but they missed. That then makes you a prime target for everyone for the wrong reasons.

I like the idea, but not as a camera that takes a screen shot. I think a motion sensor, that sets off a small alarm that you can hear on your belt would be better. That way, if you have a number of sensors spread out around the camp, you will know someone is near, but have no way of knowing their exact location. Will keep the added tension and suspense, without ruining it completely for the person oblivious that they walked into an area and they have been spotted by an electrical device.

Crashed Ambulance Car inland with medical supplies.
yorkie065 replied to Auzkiee's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Very nice idea. And I approve. It's something that is quite easily done as it's virtually the same as the crashed heli. I think however they should have maybe one or two per server (rarer than crashed heli's) so going to hospitals is still a viable option. And like you said, drop very little, like 1 blood bag, 2 morphine, and 3-4 bandages or something. Top job sir! -
Well, last night was the unfortunate death of my, roughly 25 in-game day old character. It came from me being a mix of over cautious, over curious and a bit of stupidity really. But even then, I don't think I stood a chance against the people we were up against as they clearly knew what they were doing, and had the drop on us. So here it goes. The plan was simple, head to Stary, get some PVP squad action going. We've been at end game for about 60% of the characters time that he's been alive, and it's getting stale just sniping people from afar. I wanted to get stuck in, use my AR and run the risk of dying. One of my mates wanted to risk dying too, he was getting bored, I don't think the other two with us were up for it, but they came along anyway. So we were North of Stary, across the open field in the treeline by the deer stand when we saw a crashed heli. We sat, and moved around getting good angles on it for about 5 mins to go in and loot, when my mate called out a player location. "I SEE A PLAYER!!" "where?" "South, South- West....theres 1!.....2.......theres 3 of them!! Running along towards the West, North West out of Stary, out South, South-West to South West." We saw them, and they hadn't seen us. 3 of us have sniper rifles (2 M107's, one being mine and an AS50), and they were on the move, we didn't want to risk taking the shot so we let them get into the distance a bit and then headed in their direction in a pursuit. The hunt was on!! We followed there heading, stopping at the treeline to look across and make sure we were still on their path. Occasionally checking the map, we soon realized they were on their way to the North West Airfield. Upon reaching it, just as we were approaching the wall at the South of the airfield we heard AK shots. From earlier, watching them run, we knew two of them had AK's, 1 AK cobra and the other a standard AK, and the third with a Winchester. We cautiously peered into the wall and noticed it was clear to move up, so we moved up the mound as we heard more shooting. No doubt, they were gana hit the South Barracks of the airfield. We setup position in amongst the foliage and walls that sit on the hill, 2 eyes on the south barracks, me looking behind out across the hills to the south of the airfield out beyond the wall, and the 4th keeping an eye on the airfield itself for zombies spawning. We sat, waiting for 5-10mins, with AK's being shot around the barracks as they took down the zombies that got in their way and aggro'd to them, when I noticed they had made their move out and we're heading up the hill, 200 metres from us to the wall. I only saw 2, so we were missing the third. There were a number of deaths that came up whilst they were in the barracks, so we half assumed that their third was one of them. We sat and watched though, as the 2 moved out, keeping an eye out for the third just incase he was dead. We decided to move and head off after them again. We pursued the two back to Stary, clearly moving back and forth, hoarding the two high loot points, when we lost the 2nd player (again, we think he died as he didn't show up). There was just one left, making an easy kill, and to make it even easier for us, he stopped at the crashed heli and started shooting the zombies. That was our chance, and my mate with the M107, took him down from 300metres with a clean easy shot. Me and a mate moved up to loot the body, and I swapped out my M16 (did have an L85 but that got patched out so was running around with an M16) for his AK cobra and then many many mags he had on him. Hiding his body, he headed up to the hill North West of stary, giving us a good view of the tents. Immediately, our sniper with the M107, spotted a guy in the right hand medical tent, and requested ranging. I moved up over his shoulder and used the rangefinders to give the info he needed. "385 metres!" The shot came out and cleanly took him down. As it was just the one guy, we were smart to assume that he had a mate or two in the area watching him, to cover his back. So the call was made to "move back up the hill and regroup". 3 of moved up, and we paused to recollect when we noticed that our 4th was missing. "Dude where are you?" He called out "We're up the hill" "Which one?" "The one we came from, hence the call to move back up the hill." "Ok, on my way!" Then the inevitable. "Shit im hit!! Im dead!" Then there was the shot, M107! Whoever he was, he'd hit the guy with the AS50, although he didn't have it out at the time, it was something we didn't really want to loose. I had heard it's direction and my initial estimation was the treeline directly North of the tents on Stary, it's a popular spot, and there was a slight delay from the crack of the bullet and the shot itself. Very cautiously, we moved over the crest of our hill and headed to the bush line to try and get eyes on. Heading towards the bushes, we could hear multiple dead player flies, and getting to the bushes, I saw one or two dead bodies. I didn't want to loot, not now! Not until we had eyes on and eliminated our target. We moved around slowly, for about 5mins trying to get eyes down into the treeline, but we could see nothing. I moved up along the bushes to get a view down and in, when I heard the crack of a bullet over my head. "JESUS!! THATS ME, IM BEING SHOT AT!!" I panicked! Trying to get myself stood up to run, I missed the 'C' key and instead hit 'V' instead, standing up straight slowly and the vaulting. Immediately I started running into cover, but within a second or two of me starting to run, I heard the 2nd shot come in and he met square on. I fell "FUCK IM DOWN!!" And there it was. The screen confirming the end of my characters life. I was distraught, and disappointed, but I needed to stay calm, two of my guys were still there, with no eyes on and a chance to recover the gear. Sitting there starring at the death screen, I told them the plan. "Right, try and recover my gear, and our buddies AS50! But DON'T do it until you've cleared the area." "I agree" they replied. "Ok, I think he could be in 1 of 3 places: 1- The treeline North of the tents where we initially thought he was, but im not sure as I heard the bullet crack, and then roughly half- to a second later I heard the shot, so my other two guesses are inside the large red metal building, the other side of the tents to the East. Or across the town itself, again out to the East. My rough estimation on distance, considering the delay between my getting hit and hearing the shot is probably around 500-600 metres. I don't what they were doing, but the next 5-10 mins were tense. It also unfortunately resulted in our third sniper getting killed as well, leaving one guy left, who later got engaged by the same people but managed to make a run for it under heavy fire and escape. From what he was saying over comms in a mad panic was that there were two of them, think in the bush line close to us when he got engaged. So, fresh spawns. Down on the south coast, have met up with two guys down there who we're now teaming up with and going to have many adventures into hostile grounds and see what this new start game is like. I've already died once again whilst looting a dead guy, but I've managed to meet up with the two randoms again, and 2 people involved in the Stary incident, have joined us also (the guy who survived ran down, and the guy who died with the other M107 joined us a fresh spawn). Hopefully, this will breed fresh life into the game as end game is almost non existant at the moment. But it's also helped and made me fear death less, having lost all the valuable gear I had before.

That was how I was told to do it, but I have a backup of the original Arma exe file I had at the start, so I can always revert back to it if I decide to play the vanilla. Thanks for the tip anyway, shall bear that in mind when I do go to play it.
-
If your doing it manually, delete the beta folder from your 'Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead Extensions' folder in the program files. And then run the setup exe. file from the patch you want. Once thats done, you wana copy the new Arma2OA exe file in the new beta folder thats been created (found in the same place as before) and copy that back into the Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead folder replacing the standard exe. file. Make sure you have a backup of the standard exe. This is for if you download and apply patches manually, as for using six updater, I have no idea....although I think six updater is for DayZ only anyway? Im not sure...I've never used it.

Play more US servers. Im in the UK, and always play on US servers if possible as they have quicker loading times, they always have done ever since I started playing a month or two ago. ^The last part of this^ I believe that constantly respawning will slow down the server and clog up the file sync, making it slower for those playing, those joining and those respawning. You and your friends clicking respawn to get into a better spot are more than likely contributing to the slowness of the server. That, and I kinda ruins the experience. Imagine the adventures you could be having running from one side to get to cherno or electro

100 things I learned from DAYZ
yorkie065 replied to execpro22's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
132: Firing 10 rounds with an M107 standing dead centre at the top of the air traffic control tower in the north west airfield, pointing a directional baring of 170 degrees, SSE, with an elevation of 55 degrees up will kill the son of a bitch shooting in Cherno A serious 132: Pitching a tent on a rock will make your tent invisible...TO EVERYONE!!!! -
Post apacolyptic greifing simulator for D-bags
yorkie065 replied to skyter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is very much the players. I've now become one of these shoot on site, for a number of reasons. And here are mine: It first stemmed from when I started playing the game. First thing I did, was log on, with a bunch of mates, and try to find each other. Over the course of a couple of hours, we all met up and started wandering around the darkness together. We saw other people, in the night, but we let them be, at the time, we only wanted to play with each other and just stayed separate from everyone else. After a day or two of playing, we met up with another friend in the petrol station north of cherno. Then a player walked up, and shot us all, for no reason, we didn't provoke him, and hell, we didn't even know he was there till he started shooting us all. So we respawned, and tried again, this time, approaching people more cautiously, but still willing to be friends and expand our group. We came across a couple of lone people, who we stopped and chatted to, but then went our separate ways. That was until, again, we arrived at Stary in the night, and one of our friends got shot. The other 3 that were with him at the time, lived on, but hopes of meeting up with friendly people, nearly shattered. Over the next coming weeks, we've come across others who shoot at us without asking, and we all died to them. That was the point that did it for us. The only people we could trust were those who we knew prior to playing the game. Not only of the above, me and my mates have top rated gear now. It's fearing that we're going to loose it in combat, that near enough forces us to shoot those that we see and are posing a threat, before they see us. But we'll be patient with it, we won't go guns ho straight away, we'd wait for the clear shot. If people move out and we loose them before we get the shot, we'll let them live, depending on their threat level and the direction they're heading to us. Other people force the mentality of shoot to kill, as questions later. Sure i've come across other people who, if you play it right, like pointing your gun to the ground and only looking around with free-look, make no sudden movements, won't shoot you on sight. As for a solution, it's almost unsolvable, not that I want it to be. PvP engagements are some of the most tense experiences i've had in this game, and it makes it worth playing it, even if you die and have to start all over again. -
To the player named in the title of the thread, Whether it was actually you, or one of your female friends (saw 3 of you, 2 female, 1 male) that engaged me from 15 metres away with a winchester over at Black Lake last night; you won't be so lucky next time. And to get the drop on me, fire 3 rounds at me before I return fire, firing another 3-4 rounds as I return 6-10 shots with my M16, to only drop to the floor screaming and then immediately Alt+F4 is pretty damn low. Like I said, next time you'll be dead, you actually lived for a couple of minutes longer than you should of, as I would have taken at least 2 of you with my M107 when you were stood at the waters lake. This Alt+F4 needs to be fixed asap! p.s. Don't start what you can't finish!

Can anyone confirm that Ghillies are working if you put one on, and that you won't loose gear or spawn in the sea? Yet to find anywhere that confirms the fix in the patch notes.

6 months in Alpha state....
yorkie065 replied to Sputnik (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No!! Average time create an iteration of a franchise is a year...because all they do is add one or two new features and update the game with new models, textures, maps and sounds. A game from scratch, would take a good 3-5 years for a decent game. DayZ is going to be in Alpha for a looong time as theres a lot that they can add, and fiddle around with. Even then, a lot of the stuff they want to do, can't be done as a mod, but will be able to do as a separate release. Even then, does it matter? It's a fully working released alpha, which in itself is rare to be open to the public and in as good, working conidition as DayZ is. -
If it's impossible to fix, then why the hell post about it? Surely the reason your posting this list of exploits and suggestions is because you want them fixed? Also by your logic, using TS, Vent and Mumble for ANY game is an exploit!
-
Your tent idea isn't completely disregarded, as it would be nice to have them as a way of sleeping in as well. There could also be some risks but also some benefits to using the tent over a sleeping bag. Like sleeping in the tent can keep you warm, so you log in at a normal temperature, but could also have your tent destroyed, and your character killed with it if he's inside. As for not using the tent, you loose body heat in the dark, or when logging in and it's raining, and you log in 2-3 degree's away from catching a cold. So you either have to quickly seek shelter, or start a fire, or crack a heat pack.
-
That would be cool, as long as the amount of time it would take to log out was posted either in the server name, or somewhere in the description. I doubt that as a community everyone is going to agree to a set time, so if there was to ever be a set time to log out, will probs be chosen by the devs and have it fixed across all servers. I do however quite like the though of a permanent body on the server. The challenge and realism that it would bring would be extremely cool! Maybe on a few extreme setting servers or something could have this. As for you saying that you never said the tents was a bad idea, I know. You haven't related any of your posts until now. And I have no problem with people who wana critique and pick holes in my idea, im open to all suggestions that people have. Im a level designer, I receive critique and idea changes on a daily basis :) So it's cool man :) Im here to discuss and develop everyones ideas, as like you all, I want this issue fixed.
-
I wouldn't. Me and my mates all had ghillies and then jumped into a server that said it was 1.7.1.5 and it wasn't, it was 1.7.2 and we lost our ghillies. We were even running 1.7.1.5 as well, so we lost out even before updating. That, plus there are very few servers now that are running 1.7.1.5, and even if they say they are, they may well not be. If I was you, i'd keep it in my back pack, and not put it on until the devs have confirmed a fix, or the next patch.

How do I get these options on the left?
yorkie065 replied to mccullxch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Scroll your mouse wheel either up or down. The click middle mouse, or whatever button you use normally to loot, or use (think it's 'enter') to select the highlighted option. I use and prefer this method as it allows specific actions to be reliably undertaken. -
Hahaha!! I can see it now: "Right guys, you ready to assault this town?" "One sec buddy!! I've gotta go pee" *Runs over to a tree and drops trow* :P A little bit much for me personally, but an entertaining suggestion. As for sleep, my character sleeps when im logged out. I think the already included (but in the background) stamina mechanic works nicely, as does the others already in the mod.
-
This is exactly what we're trying to avoid. Lol, don't over exaggerate what people are suggesting. If you don't like the ideas being posted, then critique them with reasoning and post your own. Besides, DayZ isn't exactly a fast and instant action game. The amount you can get done in 5-10mins of playing DayZ is very low unless your server hopping within buildings. If you are, then your going against the spirit of the game, and only ruining the experience for yourself, hence the reason of this thread. We're trying to come up with reasonable solutions that will suit all whilst still sitting within the confines of what the game is about.
-
I used this word because at the moment (playing 1.7.1.5, yet to update to 1.7.2 but will be doing that tonight), my main threat is enemy players. Zombies are more of a nuisance that just get in the way at times. Yes, they can over run you, but i've not had any real difficulty unless 2 or 3 of my mates, plus me aggro a whole village. This, for me, and I imagine others see this from different sides, the zombies aren't the real threat, the players are. I guess it depends on where you are in the game; very early- zombies a big threat, later in the game- not so much. There are other reasons, but this isn't the thread for them. And I agree with you 100% that it's the mentality of the players that is the real problem, but we can't fix that without a game mechanic behind the people playing the moral high ground and no disconnecting to stick through the thick as shit moments to come out the other side buzzing like a bee's nest on adrenaline. Hence why we're hear discussing options. Seems like a lot of people are happy with a timer of a minute or two, and some way to cancel it if need be for when a threat arises. My idea of a sleeping bag was to make the player feel more involved within the game world and try to add to the survival element. Just standing there with a timer would look too artificial. Someone mentioned being able to log out only specific areas? How about forests? Near enough every city, town, village has woodland near by. Like with the hatchet where you can only chop certain trees to get wood, use the same area's to log out. This combined with a timer will stop people hauling into a village and aggro'ing zombies not giving a damn, and just dc'ing whenever they get a broken leg or too many zombies swarm around them. Instead it should condition people to think before going in, and actually have to fight for you life rather than pussying out.
-
I've not played UO, but the method that you've described here is similar to what I proposed a couple of posts back (basically a sleeping bag). Something equally similar would be good, something that allows you to still look around with the free look, and cancel the logout process if you see any players near by. I think a straight up timer isn't really keeping within realistic approach and boundaries of the game. Just won't fit right.
-
Ok, think of this situation!! You find a good bunch of tree's that have very good concealment in the middle of a forest. You hang around for a couple of minutes, constantly looking around in all directions to make sure your safe. You call the all clear and move to the tree's logging out. During your 2-3 minutes of logging out, some guy who just happens to be wandering by, no idea of your location or knew you were there in the first place. But just happens to come across your body during the log out time and shoots you. Can you honestly say that you will not be pissed? Yes, it stops the firefight DC'ing, but I would rather a player DC when I shoot at them, than me getting killed during an extensive log out time period. Edit: This issue shouldn't really exist. It's peoples stupid mentality and lack of respect/ enjoyment for the game for themselves and others that needs to change. Just now that one or two people have done it, everyone is doing it.
